Hello, I completed my MA in Post-war Recovery Studies in 2005. My dissertation was on the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) with whom I spent time in Sri Lanka, including the "Tamil Eelam" LTTE controlled areas. My dissertation can be accessed at www.geocities.com/laneender. I have tried to provide some impartial background on the TRO page on Wikipedia. I would be happy to assist with the SLR project.
I am not Sri Lankan and neither Tamil nor Sinhalese and hope I provide impartial knowledge based entirely on my observations as I see them.

Hello,
I work at Amsterdam University on a project concerning Sri Lanka Malays. This means that I have some knowledge of Sri Lanka, but am not partisan to either the Sinhala or the Tamil cause. So, I think that makes me a good candidate for joining the SLR. Also, I am of course familiar with scientific methodology, which should be a plus in neutrality discussions. I also have some basic knowledge of Sinhala and some very basic knowledge of Tamil. Jasy jatere (talk) 11:27, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I was already on some group, but not sure which one was it. Anyway, I'm interested in joining this group related to articles on Sri Lanka.
- Support Signing the SL dipute resolution agreement shows good faith. I have one request, however: Can you please use edit summaries? (I recommend switching your user settings so that you get warned when you forget it, as described here). — Sebastian 17:29, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion. Changed user preference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Supermod (talk • contribs) 08:40, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Honorary memberships
I would like to present honorary memberships to Rlevse (talk · contribs) and Black Falcon (talk · contribs) for their continued commitment to SLR. Are there any objections? — Sebastian 04:32, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Passed. I will notify the editors and enter them in the members table. — Sebastian 19:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Pledges
In the pledges column I did the following changes:
- added AOR for myself and Rlevse. It's not exactly a "conflict-reducing principle or practice", but I think it's close enough.
- removed Cease Edit War and added SLDR for all signatories, since I feel SLDR supersedes the older pledge.
If any of our members disagrees, please let me know. Please also don't hesitate to change your own entry. — Sebastian 20:27, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sebastian's farewell
Because I am busy outside of Wikipedia I have been reducing my Wikipedia activities, while trying to remain active as a mediator/administrator for this project. However, I recently realized that I can not reconcile the very irregular workload here with the constant demand of my paid work. Wikipedia can be addictive, and I feel the only way to solve this problem is for me to go cold turkey and take a leave.
I will not regularly watch this project or my Wikipedia e-mail anymore. I may still lurk occasionally, but I have to retreat from active participation. This decision does not come easy to me and I have been waiting several days with this announcement. This was partly because I wanted to allow some things some of you discussed with me last week to reach closure; but since I have not seen any movement here, there remains nothing for me to do. This project has matured enough to keep running on its own; there are enough capable hands among our members and dedicated administrators.
16 months ago, we started with dreams, hopes, and visions. Now, we have essentially achieved the goals we set ourselves. I am immensely grateful to all the people who helped make this a reality. Without the cofounders Lahiru_k and Taprobanus, this project would have never started. Without the concerted effort of the admins of the SLRDA last October, it would have gotten stuck halfway. Without our members’ readiness to write good, well sourced articles, and to discuss issues on our talk page instead of edit warring, we would not have become the role model for the WP:WORKINGGROUP. Despite our limited manpower and a huge number of deep rooted conflicts, we have been able to resolve them more quickly than ArbCom.
Please make good use of the tools this project provides. Especially the positive tools get easily forgotten. Don’t forget to celebrate successes! Hand out the SL Hope Award and the SL Reconciliation Award! I had planned to hand out the latter to Watchdogb because he has made serious efforts to improve. This was delayed a bit, but if he keeps going on that path, I would be really happy if somebody with whom he had quarrels in the past could reward his efforts with the Award. If I had not received my first barnstar for “mediation skills”, I would never have cofounded this project. — Sebastian 20:08, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] What are we looking for in new members?
I have just been asked by someone who would like to join what we are looking for in new members.
As a project, we have not decided any specific requirements for our members beyond the general Wikipedia rules, and I don't feel we should. One thing however is important: Since the purpose of the project is to bring people from both sides of the conflict together, we need to be open to editors, no matter on which side of the conflict they are as long as they support the goal of reconciliation.
When Thusiyan applied, two users opposed because they felt uncomfortable with voting for a new user, but he later was admitted without problems.[1] The main concern seemed to be sock puppets. Sock puppets are a big problem in the article space, but I don't see it as a big problem for WP:SLR, since we make decisions by consensus. If someone choses to write the same argument twice, it's no more than a bit annoying.
Do my fellow members' have any criteria that we should tell new applicants? — Sebastian 02:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- I look mainly for honesty. I may oppose if I feel that an applicant intentionally uses misleading edit summaries or make false statements about other editors. — Sebastian 02:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Constructive, peaceful editing. — Rlevse • Talk • 03:16, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Proposed recipients for barnstars
How about if we gave our nice project barnstar to the admins who helped calm down the edit wars in SL articles and enabled productive discussions? Who should that be: Haemo, FayssalF, Rlevse, ... any others? — Sebastian 11:11, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- aside: What a nice time: 11-11-11-11! — Sebastian 11:12, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

- I agree that all of them should get one. Their time to help us is appreciated. Good propose Sebastian Watchdogb 23:03, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

- Sorry, guys, for keeping you waiting. I just browsed through WT:SLR and it seems to me that User:Jehochman should also be included. The section WT:SLR#Sri Lanka articles dispute resolution in effect also mentions two more editors, but I don't see any contributions from them. If I don't hear from you otherwise I will just give it to the four active admins. — Sebastian 09:37, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
