[edit] Square Enix importance

I have tried to synthesize the above discussion, so here it is....

[edit] Top-importance

  • Square-Enix and all company-related articles
  • Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest
  • Final Fantasy (video game) and Final Fantasy VII
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Kingdom Hearts

[edit] High-Importance

  • All other Final Fantasy titles (I'm on the bubble about where Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy X should go), Chrono Cross, Kingdom Hearts 2, Xenogears, and whichever Dragon Quest games are the most popular
  • All numbered Final Fantasy games, DQ8, Kingdom Hearts, Chrono Trigger, important people (Yuuji Hori, Ya-something Matsuda, and the people CSW listed) - The bread and butter games and the people who made them.
  • all the actual game articles need to be high importance (if they have sold more than half a million copies). But shouldn't DQI be there as well, as without it there'd be neither Enix nor Square today? Also, what about composers like Koichi Sugiyama who (even though owns his own company) did most of SE music, and had a huge influence over Nobuo Uematsu (and many video game composers afterward)

[edit] Mid-Importance

  • All Final Fantasy VII characters and Rikku
  • All articles on main characters
  • Nobuo Uematsu, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Tetsuya Nomura, and Yoshitaka Amano
  • FF and DQ spinoff games released in English, the bulk of Chronicle of FF7, the rest of the DW/DQ games, Xenogears, a Grandia series article (do we have one?) sequels to KH and CT, Akira Toryama, notable collaborators with Square-Enix (Brownie Brown, Quest, and Tri-Ace come to mind) - The core games, the rest of the notable people, and the companies S-E have published for.
  • Mitsuda

[edit] Low-Importance

  • All other character articles
  • Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda
  • Any other games, fictional people/places/things from games that are at least High importance, music composers, soundtrack albums from games that are at least High importance - Pretty much everything else, as long as it's something that has some real-world impact on the English-speaking part of the world.
  • Unreleased games, fictional people/places/things from other games, other soundtrack albums - Everything left.
  • mid for Spirits Within, low for other movies
  • low for FMA movies

[edit] Discussion

Well, I think things have changed since this was brought up. First of all, there was a fair bit of merger drama so now we're down quite a few characters (for the better) and we'll be down a few more when things are all completely settled. Anyway, it seems kind of weird to put FFVII above other game articles since it isn't nearly as notable as we make it seem inside our video game bubble. Anyway, suggestions:

  • FF1 and DQ1 --> top
  • FF series, DQ series and KH series --> top
  • Chrono Trigger could probably be bumped down to high
  • all numbered FFs and DQs --> high, KH games in high
  • hot-shot company producers/execs should be bumped up to top (Uematsu, Sakaguchi, Matsuno, Nomura, Amano, Nojima; some are borderline high instead of top; Uematsu and Sakaguchi are definitely top though)
  • Not sure about Xenogears, mid or high, take your pick
  • All "Characters of", "World of" and "Music of" articles should be mid
  • Gameplay of Final Fantasy (when it starts existing; Final Fantasy battle systems should be merged into that, btw), Monsters/Creatures of Final Fantasy, Common themes of Final Fantasy are mid/high, not sure
  • Individual character articles are probably low
  • Nobody games and random other stuff go into low also (Square's Tom Sawyer, anyone? Rad Racer? ^_^)

Well, those are my picks. Axem Titanium 01:54, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I recommend some modifications; I'll get to those in a bit. — Deckiller 02:07, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Ok.

Top Importance
  • Main Square Enix page
  • Series/franchise articles
High Importance
  • All "greatest hits" games and likewise
Mid importance
  • All non-"greatest hits" games
  • Major designers/creators
Low importance
  • Subarticles
  • Extremely minor games
  • Minor designers/creators

Deckiller 02:10, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I guess we can start initiating this now, right? Seems pretty straight foreword. Judgesurreal777 21:27, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Initiate what? Kariteh 21:32, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
The changing of the Square enix importance ratings to conform to this discussion...Judgesurreal777 21:38, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Changing the ratings in the VGproj tag or adding ratings in the SEproj tag? Either way seems fine, although the latter may be tedious. Kariteh 22:50, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
I thought the square enix ones....Isn't that the point of this discussion? :) Judgesurreal777 22:59, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh well, okay. Kariteh 07:56, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I've added the importance function to the SEproj template and started rating some articles. Kariteh 09:50, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
However, I can't get the bot to create the table stuff and stats; it seems we can't rate only by importance, we have to rate by quality too, even though we shouldn't need to since quality ratings are the same for all projects and VGproj already does it for SEproj... Kariteh 10:56, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
It works now. Just repeat the VGproj quality rating everytime. Kariteh 14:21, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
All quality ratings done. --PresN 05:01, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Purely out of interest, why is VII in the High Importance bracket? Gavin Scott (talk) 23:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dead links

At least 117 links of a suspected 281 were detected as dead, found on pages under the umbrella of this project. External links are primarily used in references and should be treated as though the references were missing. See parent message at WP:CVG. —Dispenser 02:19, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Squaresoft Sampler discs / Collector Volumes

At the end of the 90's Square put out several demo discs - and I can find little to no information about them on wikipedia. Does anybody know where to start? Deusfaux (talk) 14:36, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

A bit of research reveals as far as I can see - 6 demo discs, all during the Playstation 1 era:

-Final Fantasy VII Interactive Sampler CD SCUS-94961 1996 (included with Tobal No. 1)

-Final Fantasy VII: SquareSoft On PlayStation Previews SCUS-94179 1997

-SquareSoft On PlayStation Collector's CD SCUS-94256 1997

-Squaresoft on PlayStation 1998 Collector's CD Vol.1 SLUS-90028 1998 Squaresoft (included with Parasite Eve)

-SquareSoft on PlayStation 1998 Collector's CD Vol.2 SLUS-90029 1998 SquareSoft (included with Brave Fencer Musashi)

-SquareSoft on PlayStation 2000 Collector's CD Vol.3 SLUS-90075 2000 SquareSoft (included with Vagrant Story)

I don't have any information on how one obtained the 2nd or 3rd ones though. Deusfaux (talk) 15:18, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Dragon Quest

Hi, some of the members here may or may not be aware of this but the VG Project has been trying to consolidate/clean up inactive projects related to video games. See project page and talk page for more info.

Anyway, the next one on the list is Wikipedia:WikiProject Dragon Quest, which has been tagged as inactive for almost a year now. Rather than delete it, we wanted to see what you guys thought about making it a task force under your project. A similar move was done with the inactive Warcraft Project; now at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Warcraft.

The aim is to consolidate resources and make it easier for new members to find a niche; having several inactive projects can make this more difficult. The hope is that it can be restarted down the road more easily as a task force rather than a full project. I'll check back to see what you guys think, or post on the project talk page. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC))

I've been editing Dragon Quest articles for a while now (I had originally joined the project, but ended up being one of the only ones that was active).Recently, the DQ articles have been recieving more attention, so maybe a taskforce or revival of the project would be a productive thing. Evaunit♥666♥ 19:36, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Wow, only one response? Surely the SE Project is not becoming inactive too. If there are no objections or any other responses I guess I'll move it to a subpage of this project. I hope this project doesn't fall into disarray like the others. (Guyinblack25 talk 16:56, 5 May 2008 (UTC))
Do you think it's worth bringing up at the VG talk page? Evaunit♥666♥ 20:19, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Honestly, this project is so quiet that it might be worth it to just kill the DQ project and merge it in here, not even making it a sub-project. This project isn't "dead", per se, it's just that we're all still paying attention to the FF wikiproject, and no one's been working on the Chrono or KH series recently. --PresN (talk) 23:02, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I don't care if you kill the project or not. It never helped anybody. What matters is if people contribute to the articles. Evaunit♥666♥ 00:18, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Alright, if you guys don't think it's worth keeping, I'll mention that at the project cleanup page. We may end making it a task force under the VG project if it's not deleted. (Guyinblack25 talk 01:08, 6 May 2008 (UTC))

[edit] Task Forces

Where the heck are all the task forces. If there is yet to be any...I have a proposal. A Kingdom Hearts Task Force. If you like the idea add:

  • AgreeWith your comments here.

or if you disagree

  • DisagreeWith your comments here.
Disagree. Why do we need a task force? This project doesn't get too much attention as it is- there's no need to make a sub-group as well. --PresN (talk) 03:01, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Disagree. Task forces are set up because there's already a good momentum for editing a particular topic and to organize that momentum. They're not created in the hope of generating more momentum; task forces and wikiprojects which have been set up for that purpose have always failed to get any decent activity. If someone wants to edit Kingdom Hearts articles and needs advices etc., they can already do it as part of this Square Enix project. Kariteh (talk) 07:34, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
