[edit] Sleepy Time ages?
Okay, people say that their year of births are shown on their drivers lisences in this episode, like SpongeBob's, however, considering the fact that it is a cartoon, would that be irrelevant as that information can easily change? Much like the Krusty Krab menu and how many rooms SpongeBob's house has? Ect, ect. Captain Drake Van Hellsing 02:36, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, real restaurants do change their menus. Also, SpongeBob's house is consistant and there have not been any other different birthdays shown. -AMK152(Talk • Contributions • Send message) 19:27, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ah ok, I see what you mean now. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Captain Drake Van Hellsing 23:19, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] SpongeBob's Year
Okay, seeing as how that was discussed in his article, ip addresses still wish to take out the year and complain to me about it instead of talking about it on the talk page. One asked me to leave it out, but as it has been revealed and discussed, I still left it in. And the other was saying the year was 1980 instead of 1986, well, telling me that. So I thought I should bring up this issue that so far, looks like I'm the only one in charge of it with these two ip addresses. Captain Drake Van Hellsing Savvy? 23:02, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Episode coverage
The WikiProject Television episode coverage taskforce have recently been working on a review process for episode articles. There are a rash of articles about individual episodes which fail notability, and are unlikely to ever reach such requirements. Many contributors are unaware of the specific guidelines to assess notability in episode pages: Wikipedia:Television episodes. We have expanded these guidelines to make them more helpful and explanatory, and we invite you to read the guidelines, and make any comments on its talk page. After much discussion, we have created a proposed review process for dealing with problem articles. See: Wikipedia:Television article review process. We invite discussion of this process on its talk page. General comments about this whole process are welcome at the episode coverage taskforce talkpage. Thanks! Gwinva 10:13, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scissors
The Spongebob series of articles are many, exceedingly long, detailed, and crufty. Therefore, we need to cut them. I'd rather not do lots of AfDs. I'd rather work with you guys. I started to make a cutting proposal on the List of Characters pages, and then decided to just go after all of 'em. So here are my suggestions:
- We'll make just one List of Characters pages. This will have all major characters, and semi major characters. I'll leave that up to the Project do decide which are major and semi major, but it does not include Wormy.
- There will be no articles on individual characters, save Spongebob himself. He has sources and real-world notability. If the others can demonstrate it, then they can stay.
- I suppose we can keep the Mermaid Man and Barnicle Boy article, because they are a good part of Spongebob.
- We can have a Bikini Bottom article. All other places will be merged there. There will be no other articles on locations. If there are any other major things that aren't inside Bikini Bottom, then we can discuss those, but I don't see any. Rock Bottom can be on the Bikini Bottom article.
- Jellyfishing, SpongeBob's Nicktoon Summer Splash, Recurring jokes in SpongeBob SquarePants, can go altogether.
Most of this is not content worthy to be in an encyclopedia. However, there are at least three wikis where this can go.
I hope we can have an intelligent and productive discussion. i (talk) 23:42, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it's now been five days without comment. I'll place notifying tags on the articles in question, and sans any discussion in the next few days, will do as I suggested, as silence equals consensus. i (talk) 23:25, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

- I agree, I've noticed that articles "are many, exceedingly long and detailed" (though I don't know what "crufty" means, it doesn't sound good)... Doktor Wilhelm —Preceding comment was added at 23:45, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- Using this account, I have notified the relevant talk pages (as best I could from the categories) of this proposal. I'll give it a few more days, and then I'll begin. sbfw | talk 04:02, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- I have monitored daily the SpongeBob SquarePants articles until the discussion on the individule episode articles came up. Since then, I have been transferring the episode articles to the SpongeBob SquarePants Wikia. I started a page as part of this project to improve the episodes according to the expected standards. There has indeed been some improvement toward the goal. As season 5 continued, however, I wanted to get all the episode articles on the Wikia so that contributors can add information to it, so that as the episode is fresh, information is more likely to come. Since I have not been monitoring much here, some of the non-episode articles have lost their quality. My intensions are to include a lot of the information that was lost in edit histories here to the SpongeBob SquarePants Wikia. Once completed, I plan on working on the episodes list article here, hopefully to bring it to FL status. In the months prior to the redirection of the episode articles to the main list article, I was mainly adding the infoboxes and reverting vandalism. Vandalism go so out of control that I couldn't keep up with a lot of the articles I monitor. For a time I neglected to edit Wikipedia actively. Now that I have transferred the episode articles to a place where it is SpongeBob-centered, and they can easily be monitor without seeing non-SpongeBob related content that may get in the way. With that said, my future contributions on Wikipedia will be to help bring qaulity to the articles that are currently out there. And my main goal is to get them to FA or FL status.-AMK152(Talk • Contributions • Send message) 00:26, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I am going to redirect them soon. There's been over a week, and the only comments whatsoever are in support. Thus, there is consensus. If you believe there are sources to alleviate the concerns that would arise should they all be AfD (notability, verifiability, out of universe) then that's great, but I have no reason to believe they exist. I (talk) 00:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay. I have done it. Here's what I did:
I redirected
- Mrs. Puff
- Plankton
- King Neptune
- Pearl
- Mr. Krabs
- Sandy
- Blackjack
- Gary
To List of SpongeBob SquarePants characters. I left out Squidward, Patrick and Spongebob, just because.
- Jellyfishing
- SpongeBob's Nicktoon Summer Splash
- Recurring jokes in SpongeBob SquarePants
Went to SpongeBob SquarePants.
- Chum Bucket
- Goo Lagoon
- Mrs. Puff's Boating School
- Krusty Krab
All went to Bikini Bottom.
All talk pages went to the talk page that the article page was redirected to. I think I got anything, if I missed one let me know. Thanks! sbfw | talk 00:03, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- The only thing I disagree with is that Krabs, Plankton, and Sandy are just as important as Sponge, Pat, and Squid. They are the 6 main characters. Additionally, Krusty Krab and Chum Bucket I believe should remain. And there was no consensus here as you had stated in your edit summeries. Not many people pay attention to talk pages unless they are brought to them. When the episode articles were redirected, it caused chaos and confusion because only 5 were involved in the discussion, but as many as about 30 complained and got upset. In this discussion, there's 3 people so far. -AMK152(Talk • Contributions • Send message) 03:36, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with AMk, and I am gouing to revert some of your changes and find sources. ''[[User:Kitia|Kitia'']] 15:16, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the coversation was open for over two weeks. I notified all of the articles that this would be affected after 5 days. I then waited. And waited. I cannot do any more to find consensus. Silence equals consensus. You cannot just come here and say that you weren't informed, and thus the decision is not valid. There is no one I should have notified that I did not. sbfw | talk 20:41, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Wow, I was unaware that you were granted sweeping legislative powers. I would be inclined to agree with Kitia. Those six characters should have their own individual articles; they are considered the main characters in the series. Take for example Rugrats, all the main characters in that series have their own page. Why should this one be any different? And FYI, Silence equals consensusis an essay, not a policy. It doesn't mean anything, it's just the opinion of an editor. Your reverts can be changed if enough people feel that was not the best decision. You can set all the time frames that you want, but not everyone checks every page every day. Your decision is by no means final. --Cyrus Andiron 20:14, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- I also think that Plankton, Mr.Krabs, and Sandy are just as important as Spongebob, Patrick, and Squidward. All six of them should have their own articles, in my opinion. Though obviously, Mrs. Puff, Pearl, and all of those recurring characters shouldn't have their own. I talked about this in the TV show's talk page, but now I found where the discussion is actually happening. Abcw12 (talk) 00:51, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Concerning the 'List of SpongeBob SquarePants characters' article
I have some concerns about the behavior of a particular anonymous user who keeps reverting my edits to this article. First of all, I don't have any particular opinion one way or the other about the assertions raised in the above discussion by user i / soleil, and I also don't know if there are any specific guidelines for character descriptions (on wikipedia in general or for SpongeBob articles specifically). However, when I read the Main Character descriptions about a week ago, I found them to be rife with factual errors, grammar problems and biased/POV statements. As such, I rewrote the character descriptions in what I consider to be a more accurate, consistent and NPOV manner. Since that time, my changes have been continuously reverted by an anonymous user (who has also edit-protected the page on several occasions, apparently to prevent me from restoring my changes).
The only post this user has made to the talk page referencing this (here) appears to claim that he/she is removing my content because it is 'copyrighted'. In fact, all the information I posted is a mixture of my own knowledge of the show and information other users have contributed to wikipedia. The text itself is neither copied nor paraphrased from any external source--it is a summary entirely composed by me personally. I have restored my changes each time this user has reverted them, and I have continually requested a discussion concerning the matter on the article's talk page. I have also asked for the opinions of the rest of the article's contributors on the talk page, but have yet to get any replies, so I thought I would give this forum a try.
I would greatly appreciate some support/input/comments from the other wiki users who have contributed to this article in good faith and would like to see the article improved (rather than maintaining some 'mediocre' status quo). My edits have, IMO, been constructive (not vandalistic) and do NOT add any 'copyrighted' information to the article. I hope to cut through the apparent apathy of SpongeBob article contributors and hear from as many members of this wikiproject as possible in response to this post. -Grammaticus Repairo 16:17, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] News about the big, unwieldy episodes article
Okay, I've proposed to split List of SpongeBob SquarePants episodes into smaller articles. Perhaps List of Season 1 SpongeBob SquarePants episodes, etc.? I left a note on the talkpage, but it hasn't garnered much interest. In other news:
- I requested the episodes article be protected indefinitely. Anytime it's unprotected, it's a target for rather childish vandalism. The closing admin, however, saw it differently, and only protected it for two weeks. I respect their opinion. This is now the 14th time this article has been protected.
- Thirdly, as a result of above vandalism, List of SpongeBob SquarePants episodes is now in dire need of a good copy-editing. I'd do it, but unfortunately won't have very much time until Sunday afternoon (11 November).
Thanks for reading. NF24(radio me!Editor review) 01:15, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I support the split. It's too large now. Split it into season articles. There isn't a really large need for indefinite protection as there is not a ton of new user vandalism, but I'll add it to my watchlist to help. Also, we can try to add as much other information about the season as we can. I (talk) 01:27, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bikini Bottom
Something needs to be done with the Bikini Bottom article. Either delete it, merge it, or transfer it to Wikia. Like all the other SB articles that have recently been deleted or merged, the article as it stands now is nothing but in-universe fancruft (which is attested to by the fact that all of the references are from the show itself), and I highly doubt that there are sufficient secondary sources to improve it to the standards given in WP:FICT and WP:WAF. Agree or disagree? --CrazyLegsKC 05:07, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'm inclined to keep it. It does need to cut down a bit, but I'm fine with it's existence as the only SB-geographical article. I (talk) 06:07, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Template:SpongeBob SquarePants
Because of the redirects, I removed several things from this. However, Bikini Bottom is still there, but I don't know what to do with it, since everything else in the row has been removed. Does anyone have a suggestion? Post there. I (talk) 20:37, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] More news about List of SpongeBob SquarePants episodes
A user has proposed that this article be merged into SpongeBob SquarePants. This is being discussed on the talk page. NF24(radio me!) 20:50, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
