[edit] Actually active

I think that a very small percentage of the people on this list are actually active participants, and that the list is relatively useless in it's current form. I have two ideas for possible ways to make this list actually work.

The simplest idea, is to do an occasional purge of the list. Very occasional. Maybe once a year. Let the people who are actually still participating add themselves back to the list afterward. It may be a pain for the active people, but it would only be once per year, and it make sure to occasionally flush out the folks who add their name when they think they want to participate, and never bother to remove it after they quit the project.

The second idea would require more knowledge than I have about how Wikipedia actually works, and I'm not sure if it would be possible.

We could develop a small icon or message that goes onto a user page, and this list could be an automatically maintained list of all the user pages that have that message or icon within their code. This would have the disadvantage of being an unatractive list (just a list of user pages with no comments, I would guess), and it wouldn't help if the person quit Wikipedia altogether, and didn't remove the icon first. However it would be mostly self-maintaining.CB Droege 03:28, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
