IP exists for the sole purpose of spamming links to http://www.dataeastgames.com and content to G-Mode. IP most likely a person from that company. Intellectual properties for the original company were split according to the Data East page references, so there is no "official data east page" as the ip keeps spamming. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 16:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Before 10 May, the links at Foreign Service Institute were all to a single non-commercial site. These were then replaced with mainly commercial links. The number of links was excessive to begin with, but since the FSI courses are apparently in the public domain as US government products, I don't see any reason to object to a single link to a non-commercial online version. In investigating a bot report on Meta-Wiki (meta:User:COIBot/XWiki/url-info.appspot.com), I found that the linked site provides a small browser add-on that's a very useful tool for investigating all the links embedded in a page, whether it's one of our Wikipedia pages or a page on an external spam site. I recommend others active with spam mitigation add it to their browser toolbar and check it out. This would have saved me many hours in the last year had I known of it:

If you're trying to find possible related domains links on a spam site to investigate, this will quickly list them all, sparing the aggravation of clicking on every link. In fact it's so easy to glean information that we'll need to ensure we're not mindlessly reporting unrelated domains as "related" when they've appeared on a spam site page for some innocent reason:

As for the meta spam report for url-info.appspot.com, I noted that the limited extent of COI linking (just 1 link to each of 4 projects). The tool is free and the page has no ads. The problem, if there even is one, did not meet the threshold for meta-level action and recommended no action be taken.

Typically spammers from English-speaking countries aren't big cross-wiki spammers. For what it's worth, it seems Europeans (except the British) are most likely to cross-wiki spam; I suspect this is more a function of their comfort with multilingual environments than any difference in ethics. I found just one cross-wiki link addition among all the accounts listed above -- to another English language project:
I did not run cross-wiki link searches.
The IPs above are registered to a mix of Indian and British ISPs.

Hi this user comes in on a smallish range of IP's that a whois such suggest are the same person. He's been persistently reverted and warned, on Theistic Satanism, Traditional Satanism and probably related articles by various people and bots. Before this his spam link was to his previous URL, another geocities, which he's now closed and swapped for the new one.

Ok, at least presently I've only see this an issue on one article, specifically Pork and Beans (song), but several different anon IP have added a link to this site, which is, for purposes of typical WP:EL, is a copyvio since it contains the lyrics to the song as well as an unauthorized copy of the video (the video was premiered by Weezer on YouTube, the fact the YouTube link exists may be why this link keeps getting added).

While most anons are from a 76.*.*.* domain, this is not consistent with whom is adding it. The fact that 1) there's so few links to this site before this point, and 2) some of the edit comments on the diffs indicated below are interesting, both suggest that there may be a pointed effort to include this link.
