[edit] To do
The main task currently is to make all requested articles. As outlined on the main page. Help is required and appreciated! SpecialWindler talk 08:44, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Brian Hetherington & Brian Johnston
State of Origin.com lists Brian Hetherington in 1986, game 3, but Rugby league stats lists Brian Johnston, not Hetherington. I can't find any source that lists Brian Hetherington as a SOO player. Does anyone know otherwise? Btw, the Brian Johnston on wikipedia is/was a cricket commentator, not the RL player, so I'll put him on the list for a new entry. ~ Florrie • talk • 01:00, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- No worries, found him on the NSWRL list. The SOO site isn't as reliable as I thought. ~ Florrie • talk • 01:46, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- The SOO site isn't reliable, but its got good source for player info. For example of the unrealibility, every game is stated that NSW won. Apparently NSW won Game II, 2006 30-6 and the fullback was Neil Hunt (for those who don't know, QLD actually won 30-6 and the fullback was Karmichael Hunt. SpecialWindler talk 06:21, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I noticed the Blues seemed to have won an awful lot more than I remembered. But, that's fine by me. I've been cross-checking everything so far with stats.rleague.com and then just using soo.com for bits of profile. It's not so easy to find info on past players so I think we are doing A Good Thing by adding it to Wikipedia. ~ Florrie • talk • 07:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I came across this Brian Johnston article five months ago did some editing and wikifying of it. It exists. -Sticks66 14:31, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have since moved the article to Brian Johnston (rugby league). SpecialWindler talk 01:28, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
I have a printed source that lists Hetherington on the wing in Game II, 1986 and that he came on as a replacement in Game I of 1984.-Sticks66 01:22, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, I've got the stats.rleague.com links as references [1], [2] ~ Florrie • talk • 01:53, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] " is a " or "was a "
Please remember that in the lead paragraphs on former players we either say "Laurie Daley is a former rugby league player" or "Ken Irvine was a rugby league player" depending on whether they are alive or dead. -Sticks66 14:39, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, but from my knowledge Peter Jackson (rugby league) is the only dead State of Origin player. I may be wrong. SpecialWindler talk 01:30, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
That'd be me, sorry. I started on Walford and Muir with a direct lift from some other SOO wiki entry. I'd already done them before I noticed the error. Might need a wander through some of the older stuff to see if there are others. When I get time. ~ Florrie • talk • 01:53, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Frank Stanton
Can anyone tell me who preceded and succeeded Frank Stanton as the national coach ? -Sticks66 13:36, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- Terry Fearnly had a short stint in 84-85 and I was going to say Changa prior to Stanton but he was finished by '75. ~ Florrie • talk • 13:56, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- No, it was Artie Beetson in 1983 - 2 tests only against New Zealand. http://queensland.rleague.com/legends/abeetson.php ~ Florrie • talk • 14:00, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] new template
I have added a new template {{StateofOrigin player}}.
What it does is the following:
{{StateofOrigin player|101}}
Mark Carroll at the State of Origin official website.
which links you to the website
http://www.stateoforigin.com.au/soogame/PlayerDetails.aspx?Pid=101
Notice the 101 at the end, whatever player you go to, add that number.
If the player article has (rugby league) on the end of it.
You need to add the parameter:
{{StateofOrigin player|101|title=Mark Carroll}}
Hope that helps. SpecialWindler talk (offline) 08:13, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Like to thank him for doing some work on State of Origin articles, haven't done so personnally but. SpecialWindler talk (currently offline) 09:16, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Template
There is a new template here {{Infobox State of Origin series}} for Series pages of State of Origin. OK. Just thought I'd let you know SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 02:38, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Scorers
I've been wondering about the redlinked "Scorers" link in the Portal Box for State of Origin. {{StateofOrigin}} What is intended to be put here ? It seems that all the Series pages already contain each game's score summary (in fact some contain only that). So if we're going to have the Series pages contain all the scoring detail then I don't suppose we need separate scoring detail pages. Unless of course it was intended for SoO scoring statistics per player accumulated over their Origin career. What do y'all think ? What was the initial idea ? -Sticks66 11:16, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Coaches image colours
Whilst the coaches don't appear in the team list on Players (and rightly so) I'm going to continue the practice that Museeumofinanity has started of putting them in the team line ups on each series page such as here. But on the question of the image colours next to coaches' names I don't agree they should be given the State colours. I think it's as relevant to the page that Gus Gould was Penrith (or Easts) coach at the time he was NSW SoO coach as it is that Andrew Johns was from Newcastle. Consensus ? -Sticks66 08:45, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, the coachs should be what club they are with when they coached the team. But for coaches that don't have a team (such as Mal Meninga and Phil Gould in his later years) I would use Image:Black.jpg which is what I used for Allan Langer in 2001 (when he had no club). SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 10:15, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
-
- Not sure about black. The lack of a club colour whatsoever (as appears earlier in the piece for some players) would be better (black might indicate they play for a team with black colours) unless directly clarified. Also, wasn't Langer brought back from Warrington (Super League UK) from memory? Surely the SL clubs have icons?121.208.19.160 (talk) 11:06, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] History New South Wales
I'm just about ready to take on the NSW History article that's redlinked in our SoO Info /Link box (what do you actually call those boxes ? ). Obviously Qld's existing article is written from a Qld POV so I though I might mirror this for NSW writing on relevant NSW history and events from a Blue perspective. But I'm very confused by the two distinct yet very similar Qld history articles. Our box links to Queensland state rugby league team history which is an extract from the history subsection of Queensland state rugby league team. It can't be right that we have these two distinct articles can it ? They were obviously initially the same but now contributors can edit one or the other so they read differently at the tail. Can we, the SoO Taskforce form consensus and take action on what happens with these two so that I can tackle NSW's article similarly in its approach and location. -Sticks66 02:47, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Harvey Norman
I think it was 1998 that it first became the Harvey Norman SoO and have seen shots of both Blues and Maroons wearing that logo on their shorts that year. I think in 1997 it was the Coca-Cola SoO. Can anyone confirm or disagree ? -Sticks66 14:45, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- They celebrated the 10 years of sponsorship this year, so I would agree. SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 20:40, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 211 players
We are supposed to have 211 players in the category for New South Wales Rugby League State of Origin players [3] category but I count 208, including Sean Ryan. Take him off and it's 207. I'll start working my through to find the three (or four) articles with the missing category but if anyone has any bright ideas for a quicker solution (like - it doesn't matter), please say.~ Florrie • talk • 16:44, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Here are all 211 (in alphabetical order)(correct to end of 07 series)
(Check History for List, Removed to remove mess)
Hope that helps. SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 21:26, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
-
- There is also no sean ryan. SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 21:30, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

- After observing the category and my list, the following are missing:
-
-
- Eric Ferguson (rugby league) (
who played 2 games in 1989who played a game in 1989 (my stats say that too)) - Willie Mason (I don't really belive its not in the category, but it isn't)
- Steve Martin (rugby league) (who only played in the inaugural 1980 match)
- Andrew Ryan (another that should have already been in there)
- Chris Walsh (rugby league) (who played a game in 1984)
-
-
-
- Add all them and you have 214 players??? SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 21:48, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

-
- Ahh, I think I understand. 211 State of Origin players. So the other 3 must be Tri-Series Only.

-
- Anyway, Hope that helps your findings, Florrie. I'm sorry not to be creating/editing QLD players, but currently I don't feel like rugby league and congrats on getting all the NSW players done (and Sticks66) SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 21:52, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

- I think Eric Ferguson (1989) must be an error. The only Eric Ferguson I can find played for Easts 75-77 and Souths 78-81. [4] Rugby League Tables does show him in game 2 in 1989 - on the wing - so for now I'll assume it is an error (bound to happen somewhere with so much data) and should have been Chicka. That makes 210 + 3! ~ Florrie • talk • 05:52, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
-
- It may well be John Ferguson (rugby league). On the stateoforigin website [5] it states he plays EIGHT games. My stats show he played 7, with Eric played 1. You'd think for a game so popular, it would be alot more clearer. SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 08:53, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- Though nswrl.com.au states that Eric played a game, and John played 7. I would think that their own organisation be a reliable source. SpecialWindler talk (currently offline ) 08:57, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

- Took me a while to remember where it was discussed, but on the Ray Brown talk page I was told that the nswrl.com stats are taken directly from the Rugby Leage Tables, they don't compile their own. So if a mistake was made in the Tables, it would be reflected at nswrl.com. While I have found a couple of errors in the Whiticker and Hudson book (and I've had it all of a week!) they do say 8 games for Chicka and none for Eric. Will we leave it at that unless other evidence turns up or shall I keep digging? Anyone got the game on video? ~ Florrie • talk • 10:29, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, sorry that was my bad, Chicka it is. Serves the nswrl site right for nicking my stats, when they're the ones with the resources to do it properly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.168.215.205 (talk) 15:15, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

(outdent) I've got 213 players listed in the NSW category now and that will, I think, include the two SL players. So we are back to 211 players! Not sure that it matters too much. After Joel's previous check we must have everyone now. •Florrie•leave a note• 13:21, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
