Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rugby league/Discussion forums/Players infobox
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What's peoples feelings about using info boxes in the players articles? I think there are advantages, such as providing a quick reference. I use info boxes a lot when looking at countries or cities, towns etc. Its possible people will want to visit a players page and quickly be able to tell how many games they've played, tries score etc. Others may see it as not a big deal, too much effort or I don't know :}.
I was going to suggest we simply use the football players infobox but it is probably better that we create one for league, simply because people may want a quick reference to try's or percentage rate at penalty/conversion kicks or actual points etc; Stuff that isn't and doesnt make sense on the football players infobox. In any case Template:Football_player_infobox, should be used as a template for OUR template :).
The task ahead of our selves looks like this. If this is worth while, I'll make the changes neccessary to get the show on the road.

- Yeah it should be based on the football infobox, but of course more direct towards rugby league. It may be possible to create an infobox which is suitable for both codes of rugby, which would be a great help for both projects. GizzaChat © 07:06, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

I've made an alternate version at Template:Rugby_player_infobox, which is very closely based on the football box. I've changed some things though, including the wording of the footer and changed "goals" to "points". It looks good too, but I feel a little bad because of how closely based it is on the football box. Do you think that the Football Wikiproject will mind at all? Thoughts so far? A few things need to be addressed too:
- Do we include the full names of clubs (i.e. South Sydney or South Sydney Rabbitohs)?
- Do we count merged teams as two separate identities?
- Do we make Eastern Suburbs/Sydney City/Sydney Roosters and Canterbury/Sydney Bulldogs/Bulldogs different teams or not, and if not, which team name do we use
- Where do we get photos for players, and what type of photo should be used i.e. newspaper clipping, team website portrait or on-field shot?

- I've just been using one I created (see Ettingshausen, Cooper) but i'll use this one now.
- Full names of clubs should be included i guess relevant to the time frame of when that player played rugby league.
- Merged teams should be counted as ONE sole new team.
- No I think 'Eastern Suburbs/Sydney City/Sydney Roosters and Canterbury/Sydney Bulldogs/Bulldogs' should be included as both one single club, the club didn't change or relocate just the name did for a brief period of time.
- I have been getting photo's from TV (see Simmons, Riddell) and some newspaper clippings/front covers of magazines.
