Newsletter Archive
Just to point this out to everyone; I've tried to compile an archive of the Powderfinger newsletter. Anyone else who subscribes is encouraged to add any copies they have in there. This could be really useful for article referencing (primary sources, though..). Happy editing everyone! Giggy Talk | Review 00:54, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Nice ref, Gig. --lincalinca 02:51, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Man I'm stupid. Turns out I had 3 pages in my hotmail folder (why would anyone want 10 messages/page anyway?), so I've just found a few more, back to the start of June (when I subscribed to the newsletter). I may occasionally try random URL typing (since they're all based on date) to try and get more, but I have a life too :P Giggy Talk | Review 04:07, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
New Articles
3 new articles have now been created thanks to Forza for Sink Low and Belter (song), and I have just created Process This. I was going to do Automatic (Powderfinger song), but couldn't work out where this song comes from, it was nominated for an ARIA in 1996 for best engineer. So if someone wants to do it, please do. I have also rated these articles and added them to the template and fixed the project page.
Let's try and get the last few articles created. WP:FING#Articles to create. Slabba 00:27, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- I used to have the Automatic EP, but that was years ago and I don't know what happened to it. Curiously, Hindley Site doesn't even note it in any way as a song or anything. Rather strange. I'll see what I can find about it, but it's been over ten years since I remember having it. Chances are, I swapped it for something else. --lincalinca 02:00, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Powderfinger Question
For those who haven't noticed, I'm currently working on bringing the article to GA. I've expanded all the sections, added refs, etc. Now we just need a copyedit, and a bit more info about These Days live and Fingerprints.
The main reason I'm here, though, is to get feedback on if we need a section on Sunsets (DVD). Thoughts, opinions? Giggy Talk | Review 05:13, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think so. It's just a single DVD anyway, it's not an album, per se. It's just the same as the "Take Me In" video single from Double Allergic, which doesn't have its own write up, and that's because it's simply an appendage or a "collateral damage" release of DA, just as Sunsets is for Vulture Street. --lincalinca 04:17, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Powderfinger nominated for GA
Just as a heads up, Powderfinger has been added to WP:GAC. Let's make this our 2nd GA! Giggy Talk | Review 04:07, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Merge?
I was just thinking that perhaps we should merge "The Metre" and "Waiting for the Sun" as they were released as a double a-side. Since, "Good-Day Ray" and "Don't Wanna Be Left Out" are together. What do you all think? Slabba 08:55, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Support. I was thinking that myself just a few days back anyway. --lincalinca 09:03, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Much of the info is identical to the info in the other article; merge them. RaNdOm26 09:06, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Done. As well as that, I've merged the music boxes and was about to update the template, but someone already did that. Thanks Random. --lincalinca 09:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Good work guys! I was wondering what happened when I first saw the new article on my watchlist, but it's the right move. :) Giggy Talk 01:50, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- No messing around lol! Good work on the merge. If other people haven't done so already, I'll check the links and update them to the new page. Slabba 08:50, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've just gone through the links, I think the only ones left were from user pages, also removed a few links from The Doors pages that linked to "Waiting for the Sun". Slabba 09:11, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

(<--)For future note, AWB is useful for this...but the whatlinkshere feature doesn't work (for me) after the page has been moved. I suppose it dislikes redirects or something...anyway, you might want to look in to it ;) Giggy Talk 01:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
-
- I just used the "what links here" option. For example, I went to "The Metre", it redirects you, but then you go to the actual "The Metre" page then click "what links here" if that made any sense. I've never used AWB, probably too technical for me lol! Slabba 01:29, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Hindley Street (song)
Anything notable about this song - does anybody want to improve the article - or do we AfD? Giggy Talk 22:25, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Pick Up the Pace created
OK, I've created this article, and I also decided to take a shot at DYK. It's been submitted here, so here's hoping it gets through :) Giggy\Talk 06:44, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
The Day You Come
Hey! So I'm back! My computer died, and I was intending on helping with promote the quality of the flagship article t get ready for FAC, but I'm back on now, though maybe not for long, so I'm making the most that I can now. I've upped the ante on "The Day You Come" so that it's now a comfortable Start Class, but we need more info on there. Iknow it's an older song, but to many, it was the group's breakout song. There's a lot of information to be found about the songs, lots of references, both web and otherwise. I think if we dedicate some time to the article, it'd make GA. Unlike an album or an Artist, a song's quite an easy thing to get promoted, as long as it's exhausive and VERY well written (which it isn't now, even with the stuff I've just written). Much could be added (it's the lead single, and I don't think that's mentioned) and charts need t be defined (offhand, I believe it's noe of the few songs that has garnered a chart spot in the UK and somewhere else overseas, but I'll investigate that). What do you guys think? We've got at least one or two singles from each article that shows promise enough to be made into a solid GA, and this I believe could become an FA even (thugh not before getting Powderfinger there). What do you say? Team effort? --lincalinca 14:50, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- Team effort? Arr, sounds good. I'm working on another song GA now, which will probably help in some way (it gives me something to work off). Also, on another note, I've emailed Powderfinger's website asking for a free image to use, so here's hoping! Giggy\Talk 01:41, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

List of Powderfinger awards
List of Powderfinger awards is dangerously close to becoming a successful (hopefully) FLC candidate. All comments are appreciated either here, at the article's Wikipedia:Peer review/List of Powderfinger awards, article's talk page or at my talk page. - Hey Sebi, don't feel like I'm stepping on your toes, but I've nominated the article for WP:FLC. It's likely to receive more attention than the WP:PR page anyway. I'm very impressed with where you have taken this articler from where it was when I started it (well, split it out from the main Powderfinger article). I've skimmed over it and, having already brought the Crowded House list to FL, I don't see any reason this shouldn't also receive the same honour. --lincalinca 08:28, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- No problem, Linca, I was kind of waiting for someone else to nominate the article, because I was slightly confused that the article wasn't read. I'll have another thorough look-through in a moment making those minor detail changes, et cetera. Thanks again for your help on the article, Sebi [talk] 09:09, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

What's happening...

I have created Wikipedia:WikiProject Powderfinger/Notices, which we should use to keep members informed of what's happening in the project at the moment. I don't think that the monthly newsletter is sent out anymore, so I created this. ~ Sebi [talk] 23:56, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've not bothered with the newsletter - lots of work with minimal payout, and I'm starting to find them annoying anyway...so yeah, this is good. It's going straight to my talk page :) — Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 07:53, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Struck GOLD!
Hey guys! I was without internet for most of today (grumble grumble), and as there wasn’t much else going on, I found myself doing some offline composition, reviewing, etc. One of the things I ended up doing was looking through the companion booklet for Fingerprints, and finding a few tidbits of useful information we could use for articles. There are also some great images here, although I get the feeling they’d all be fair use (if I scanned them). Everything in “quotations” is taken directly from the booklet, so we can definitely use it for song meanings etc.
In all cases, I think the following would be OK for referencing (obviously, you’ll need to change the page reference, and I’ve cited them below):

That’s it for songs. A few extra personnel notes, from page 14.
- Manager: Paul Piticco and “secret service staff” - Brian Quinn, Annette Perkins, Janne Scot, and Jean Reid.
- Art direction by: The Revolution
- All songs written and performed by Powderfinger.
- All songs published by Egg The Nest Songs Pty Ltd
- Alternative title for Fingerprints: “From Heavy Metal to Centenary Medal”
That’s the lot. Whilst typing this I’ve been able to think of a use for almost all the information here...even if it’s just a personnel section for every album (since in most cases the personnel is the same for every song on the album - just some extra backing vocals), but in most cases there other tidbits of information that can be added. Transfusion (EP)
I've looked through Powderfinger Central a bit, and found a few articles about this EP, so I've expanded the article a good deal. Anything else that you can find would be sweet :) Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 00:40, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it turns out that Take40 hosts the music video for "Reap What You Sow", so I've added the info about that. I've also nominated the article for WP:GAC. I'd say we've got a good chance with this one now! --lincalinca 04:59, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Just an idea...
Is there any way to implement collapsible headings on the wikiproject page, such that you can have a heading, just to hide the lists, if you get what I mean? Like the category trees. Slabba 23:06, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Do you mean to collapse each section, or just the tables? --lincalinca 23:38, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- I mean the tables, you know how the articles covered section has category trees, can you do a similar sort of thing for the pages in in the tables? Hope that's a little clearer. Slabba 00:38, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Linca, I see that you've added the collapsible parameters to the tables, but nothing seems different? Is there something I'm missing? I've tried viewing the page in firefox and IE. Slabba 00:56, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Working now! Good one. Slabba 00:57, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just tweaked it further, so it looks a bit more presentable. Hope that's what you were after. Did you want to encapsulate anything else, or just them? --lincalinca 01:25, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was away doing something else. Yeah, I reckon that looks great, makes it more tidier and accessible to find what you're after. Doesn't make the page so long, which is good. It's good that you've kept the urgent section expanded too. Slabba 01:54, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- If you want to get real fancy, I guess you could try adding some sort tags to it if you want. Slabba 01:56, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
