This is a WikiProject article pattern belonging to Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels. It is to be used as a starting block for new fictional character articles and as aid to restyle existing articles.

[edit] Discussion of the fictional character article pattern template

[edit] A suggestion regarding introductions

The template gives instructions for the "Character introduction" sections to be limited "to one sentence". Do we really need this as a section unto itself? Couldn't it just go before all the other sections proper? Most other articles don't have an "Introduction" section, but they do have a paragraph or so intro before the contents box. I combined the two here, and it looks less thin than before. Artiste-extraordinaire 10:59, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

I probably agree, anyway the restriction to one sentence is a bit strong, I think it should read "only a short paragraph" or something like it. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 11:57, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Citations?

I recently put a lot of work into the article Roland Deschain and someone has tagged it as not citing its sources. What is the standard for articles about fictional characters? Is the novel itself the source, or do we need to find secondary sources for everything? In other words, do I need to find a third-party publication about the character? Mus Musculus 14:36, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I personally would accept the book a source, however this is unlikely to be acceptable to all. I would recommend anyone writing a novel related article to include at least one external reference and citation, ideally more! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 15:04, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
