neshq.com
I am currently removing neshq.com external links when without a context (in example, when they are linked to the home page). The site has an Alexa ranking of nearly 4m, I wonder if all of them should be deleted. What do people think? -- ReyBrujo 03:14, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Hey, this is AndrewM, the founder of NESHQ.com. I don't know who's putting contextless links to my site but everyone I've put goes in the format GAMELINK - Description NESHQ.COM_LINK. If there's a way you'd prefer me to post these links please e-mail me (andrewm@neshq.com), but I put them up as my games pages are some of the most comprehensive on the web. Thanks!
A link to an Open Directory Project page instead would be a much better option.--TBCΦtalk? 03:46, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Anyone wanna help me with the list of Nintendo patents?
20 of them are done, and 491 need to get done. A lot of help would be appreciated. —Captain538[talk] 14:17, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- I am pretty concerned about having an article with 500 external links. I suggest not doing individual linking, just linking the search result link as reference. -- ReyBrujo 18:14, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- So, take away the links and just do the rest as un-linked? That can be done. In fact, that would be much, much easier. —Captain538[talk] 01:21, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, with the patent number it should be enough to find the patent. -- ReyBrujo 01:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I had added ~100 patents to the list, but the article came up in the Articles for Deletion debate, and was removed. At least this means I can stop the tedious work I was doing on the page. Useight 05:37, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, that happens. If you want the text of the article before being deleted, tell me and I will copy it to your page (say, because you have a copy of the last revision for your own research). -- ReyBrujo 05:47, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- No thanks, I could just look up the patents (which I won't because I really don't care) at the patent office's database. Useight 16:13, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

This project's Barnstar/award needs a lot of work.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Nintendo/Award
It's not even in Barnstar format. I say that we have a normal award (a regular Starman image), and a Barnstar (perhaps an image of a Barnstar pixelated and pallette-defined so it looks 8-bit). —Captain538[talk] 01:27, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

- Seems like a great idea and all, but it would not stick out like such a sore thumb if it was in the original Barnstar format. you know, with the hole in the middle and the detail and all.
- That's not to say it can't be coloured a luminous gold colour, with dark oval eyes and possibly an aura if need be, but it should conform to the style of the current barnstars in existance. maybe instead of an aura or eyes, a looping .midi of the starman theme can be added ;)
- Gene S. Poole 00:03, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Project Directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory 2,
- User:Badbilltucker/Philosophy and religion Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Sports Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory/United States, (note: This page will be retitled to more accurately reflect its contents)
- User:Badbilltucker/History and society directory, and
- User:Badbilltucker/Science directory
and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:20, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Just one question: Under where it says stuff like "Collaberations" and "Peer review," should we only fill in "yes," or should we also fill in all others with "no"? —Captain538[talk] 22:53, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- You should fill in the link to the appropriate page or section. If there is content, the box will show a "yes" and link directly to the appropriate page or section. Sorry about any confusion earlier, by the way. I forgot for a while that all the "draft" pages linked to the existing pages. The old pages have now been replaced and most things should work fine. My apologies again for any confusion. B2T2 00:07, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

We need to have an article focus system.
I think we should have an article focus system. We could use approval voting to make a list of articles that need help. One at a time, we would list an article with what is needed to make it at least a GA, and keep it as that until it reaches GA status, then take the next article on the list.--Ac1983fan(yell at me) 17:18, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

- Do you mean an assessment scale? What most projects do, is that they categorize articles by Top importance, High, mid or low. And I think we should do that with this project as well. The top articles should be the systems, the pages for the franchises, Shigeru Miyamoto, the pages for the most famous characters (Mario, Link, etc).

Included Characters
In the introductory paragraph the sentence, "However, this does exclude Super Mario RPG related articles which, though owned by Square Enix, features Nintendo related characters." seems a bit odd. The word exclude seems to clash with the sentences around it. Is it saying that RPG aticles aren't included or they are. Either way can I suggest a slightly clearer phrasing which dosen't clash so much with the words around it?BigHairRef | Talk 01:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Tagging the Nintendo articles
It would be a lot of work, but the Talk pages of many Nintendo related articles are not tagged as being a part of Project Nintendo. The articles would be a lot easier to keep track of and it would be easier to keep track of which articles are good, featured, etc. So is this something that needs to be done? -- Scorpion0422 18:15, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- This does seem rather important, though there are a very high amount of talk pages without this tag. I'll start doing so. —The Great Llamamoo? 21:29, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Article Importance
For those who are not familiar, most projects tag their corresponding articles with either Top, High, mid or Low priority. So, if we're going to tag a lot of articles, which ones should which?
- TOP - The systems, Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario, Link, Luigi and other franchise characters, all the franchises
- HIGH - All first party games, major characters
- MID - Second and third party games, other characters
- LOW - Items, low characters, games made for other systems but were released on Nintendo
UPDATE - I changed the template so now it will include Assessment, etc should people wish to add them.
Opinions? -- Scorpion0422 22:00, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about the structure of WikiProjects and page importance tags, but Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games is already tagging articles such as Mario with these tags. Do we really need to tag them too? Jecowa 05:23, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Mario Party articles in need of formatting
Almost all the games of Mario Party series needs a table format or some kind of format for the mini-games. Long lists of games aren't helping the articles much. RobJ1981 19:18, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 17:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Charizard importance
Four projects (PCP, CVG, Japan, and Nintendo) have rated Charizard. The first three label it mid-importance, while the fourth labels it low-importance. Shouldn't it be mid-importance? The creator of this article keeps insisting that it deserves an article, even though it's only 1 small paragraph and is already covered in its entirety at Wii Channels. I redirected the page, but he keeps acting like i'm deleting it and won't listen to reason (I even explained that redirecting is not deleting, and that the page offers nothing different than the Wii Channels page). He doesn't seem to want to discuss it on his talk page or at the Wii Channels talk page (where I told him to discuss it). What's the appeal with Smash Bros?
I'm going to first off declare my intent to play the newbie card of not knowing where I should post this. But I wanted to know what makes the Smash Bros series so popular? I've played it for N64 about three time and liked it, but haven't had much to do with Nintendo til I get my Wii for x-mas =D Love it, btw. The new Smash Bros. is coming out this year and I'd appreciate it if someone wrote a section in that article detailing the exact appeal of the game. People like me would appreciate the little extra reading! Fadedroots 23:25, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't think that the appeal of Super Smash Bros. is worthy of an encyclopedia. It's too subjective. I would suggest you search on Google for reviews or blogs or something of that nature. Something like, "It's a fun game when you have some friends over" should not be in Wikipedia. Useight 18:55, 28 March 2007

Red Link cleanup effort
I have made it my personal task to eradicate all red links found game lists for Nintendo consoles. I will not be adding articles haphazardly with little to no information in them just to "get them up there". Some of my recent additions include Deathbots, and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (video game) both for the NES. I will be starting with the NES and working my way upward with consoles and handhelds. Anyone who is interested in joining my effort is welcome to do so, should they perform under the same standards that I am. If you plan on just creating "placeholder" articles for red links, please don't. This just makes them more difficult for me to find (because now they are stubs rather than red links). Jmeriot 18:56, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- Would you be willing to work backwards, starting with the Wii and going back to the NES? I suggest it because the Wii is a more current topic and as such more people will be using it for reference. There are a tremendous amount of redlinks/stubs there and I think it would be great if you and others could help put up article for these games.
- I don't think I'll be able to put in as much effort as you on this task (I'll contribute here and there), but to start I can go through and give you a list of articles that need to be created from the List of Wii games. -Digiwrld1 05:48, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yes and no. While I agree that Wii is a more current topic, anyone who is willing to help out certainly can use that as a starting point. I would prefer to focus on the NES list first for a few reasons. I grew up on the NES and therefor I have a sort of bond with it, also I'm a bit of a retro-gamer. While I have no objections to me working on the Wii list simultaniously, (I just added an article for Treasure Island Z today), I'd also prefer to focus on the NES list because the information is static. Meaning - the Wii games that are red links or stubs are mostly that of yet to be released titles or Japanese exclusives which would have limited information that is subject to change. The NES games however, have all been released, and therefor there is no reason an article isn't released for everyone (the same stands true for the SNES, GB, etc. as well). Again, I'd like to create full articles, not quick filler stubs, when possible.
- On a side note, my two newest additions are All-Pro Basketball, and Arkista's Ring. I hope you take the time to check them out (and possibly add something!)

A comment about Wii Points on several Nintendo articles
I made a comment here: Talk:List of Virtual Console games (North America)#Wii Points doesn.27t need to be listed. But I thought I would get some extra input here. Basically to sum it up (if you didn't read my post on that talk page): how much Wii Points the Virtual Console games cost, doesn't needed to be listed. They are downloads, but look at just about any video game article: no prices are listed. I would've removed it, but I'm sure people would've reverted it. This same thing applies to the Wii Points and Virtual Console article, and the other country lists for VC games as well. Maybe someone can think of a reason to keep it on: but I highly doubt listing prices is encyclopedic. It's helpful, but this is an encyclopedia: not a guide to prices. I can understand keeping the prices of the Wii points cards in general: but not game prices. If they are kept, then people might as welll list on every article the game cost $50 or whatever. A download shouldn't make it an exception to the rule, period. In other examples: movie articles don't have prices, nor do CD articles. In comparision to other actual downloads: I haven't checked that, but I'm sure a mass listing of prices doesn't exist on the articles. RobJ1981 19:26, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Merge Proposal
Following the suggestions of various Wikipedians, I've created a Comparison of Wii Games to complement the current List of Wii games. It allows for additional details to be listed that could not have been fit into the current list, such as Controllers used, Number of Players, and any features.
I believe that one comprehensive list is superior to 3 separate lists for both readers wanting to know more about Wii games as well as editors wanting to contribute and collaborate. As such I am proposing that the List of Wii Wi-Fi Connection games, the List of widescreen Wii games, and the List of Wii games using Miis be merged into the Comparison of Wii Games.

Need Help on the SMW article
I need help on the gameplay section of the Super Mario World (SMW) article. This section in the SMW article, as the "unreferenced-section" ta describes, need to cite it's references and/or sources. See WP:CITE. This article needs a lot of references and/or sources Can anyone please help me out? I also incorporate parts of the trivia sections into the articles, rather than "zapping the lot." - Here is a point from the trivia section of SMW removed:
- The four colors of the Yoshi dinosaurs match those of the main buttons of the Super Famicom and PAL SNES controller. Also, in the special road, the familiar SFC / PAL SNES logo is shown.

Virtual Console game list sort conflicts
There is currently debate at Talk:List of Virtual Console games (North America)#Alphabatize about how to sort the sortable list of games. On one hand, there is a preference to list all of the released games together in one table. On the the other hand, some people, intmidated by the appearance of one large table, insist on separating the list into five tables, each grouping the games by their original systems, which ruins the potential to sort the games as a whole. I am asking for help in resolving the issue. --Brandon Dilbeck 22:21, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't seem like too much is being organized for WPN, and if no one is currently running the show, I'd love to step up to help out all of Wiki's Nintendo pages. Removing WP:Nintendo templates
An editor recently removed the WikiProject Nintendo template from Talk:3-D WorldRunner, stating that the game's only connection to Nintendo (having been released on a Nintendo system) is not enough to warrant the template. However, an incredibly large amount of similar articles are tagged with the Nintendo template without anyone removing it. This includes Good and Featured Articles such as several Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. Should the Nintendo templates be removed from them? Kariteh 08:57, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- IMO, at least NES and SNES-era games should be in this project since Nintendo insisted on approving every single game before allowing it to be made. I do not know whether this policy continued for the N64 and on. Anomie 12:52, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject - Nintendo - Super Mario Series?
Out of all things video games you don't have a WikiProject on tbe Super Mario series? The very character is the longest lasting video game character (next to Donkey Kong of course) for 26 years! Surely since you have the Ledgend of Zelda (Link) series WikiProject I would think you would have the Mario series WikiProject too. I'm sure that there are plenty of Mario fans and willing contributors who are ready to start on a project of this subject. Think of it, you could have the games, the characters, development, the creators, etc. because as we all know the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario industry is a HUGE one. So why can't we put it as one of our priorities and upgrade the quality of all the articles in this area to FA standard and get our moustached friend featured? I think it's worth it. Mario is, after all, one of the driving forces behind Nintendo and would to the world of good to the Nintendo Project as well as Video Game Project too. What do you say? If you all accept, could someone put it on the To Do list? Thanks in advance. I've also posted this under the WikiProject Video Games discussion page.
I've also noticed that the Mario page hasn't even made it to Wikipedia Version 0.5 level. We must do something about this so Mario gets his spot on the Final Wikipedia v1.0!
Please excuse my lack of Wiki code as I don't know it very well.
Also, I would like to propose to clean up the discussion page here. Here is my plan.
Stage 1: Delete all topics that have not been answered in 2007 (delete all topics that are posted in 2006 and eariler)
Stage 2: Delete all topics that have not been answered in 6 months.
Stage 3: Delete all topics that have not been answered in 4 months.
Not only will this clear up a lot of this discussion page, but it would also give attention to the more important subjects that have any interest. I will need people to approve of this before I follow through so please leave your own post. After your post, please type < hr > without the spaces. This helps set your post out from the others so you can clearly tell who posted what. Also, please don't delete these lines. Thanks for reading.

- I would suggest a task force within the scope of this project. Please register so that you could be a part of the project you are proposing. Please do not use HR's as they are distracting. Please do not start the same conversation in two places, instead redirect editors from one place to the topic on the other (as this conversation is more about this project than WP:VG, I will direct editors here). Please do not add (active topic) to section headings, as there is no time limit to a discussion, save for when it's archived (usually do to size, and by normal archiving procedure). But again, a task force would be preferable, due to the overlap with this project, and there are too many stagnant WPs as it is. ~ JohnnyMrNinja 17:58, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Clarify what qualifies for inclusion in WikiProject Nintendo
This article is not really clear on what belongs in WikiProject Nintendo. It says "this WikiProject focuses only on Nintendo owned characters, games, and systems." Does this mean game published by Nintendo or developed by Nintendo? Many games (notably the Mario sports series) are published but not developed by Nintendo. For example, Mario Superstar Baseball is developed by Namco and Mario Hoops 3-on-3 by Square Enix. The sentence "However, this does exclude Super Mario RPG related articles which, though owned by Square Enix, features Nintendo related characters." leads me to believe that Super Mario RPG and related pages should be included, but many people would think bot because it is not developed by Nintendo but rather Square Enix. If I am assumming correctly, would it not be easier to say that only Nintendo published games should included?
Also, the desciption limits included articles to "characters, games, and systems". Does this mean the Nintendo page should not be included? What about disambiguation pages such as Mario and Luigi or lists such as List of Kirby games?
We need a better method of organizing our pages. Category:WikiProject Nintendo articles does a decent job of sorting articles by importance and quality, but is not easy to sort through if one just wants a "raw list". Maybe articles could also be organized by "characters, games, and systems"? I am considering altering Template:Infobox VG to atomatically include any Nintendo published games (if this is what we decide on) in a new Category:Nintendo game articles and then making a page in WikiProject Nintendo to list these using the Category Tree tool. That would be a start at least by including all "game" articles.
Just wanted to put that out there before making any drastic changes. --bse3 01:27, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
I forgot to say (as if I haven't blabed enough) that the current Category:WikiProject Nintendo articles only lists the article's talk pages, not the actual project pages. Is there a way to change the coding of Template:NESproj to add the project pages rather than the talk pages to the category, even though the template is placed on the talk pages? I know it uses the {{PAGENAME}} magic word and I have never heard of a magic word that refers to the project page of the current talk page. {{SUBJECTPAGENAME}} does not seem to work. --bse3 02:25, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Super Mario RPG was co-developed by Square, not entirely developed by them alone. In any case, there simply is no consensus on what qualifies for inclusion in the project, since this is so inactive. I tried to ask the question a while ago (#Removing WP:Nintendo templates) but it didn't get very far. Kariteh 09:37, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Page redesign
I am considering a page redesign of this WikiProject. Recently, Wikiproject Simpsons and now Wikipedia:WikiProject Harry Potter have been redesigned to be more accessible and navigation friendly. - Indeed, it is a lot more organized than the layout at the moment, good work. But is there any need for this "Writing Articles" section? It seems like little more than a rehash of what's on other pages already. I would say the red headings are a bit dark, also, they don't really go well with the left side of the page. Thanks for the input. I completely agree with what Haipa Doragon has to say about the "Writing Articles" section, so I trashed it. On the right panel I shrunk everything down by putting little scroll boxes for the larger sections. These will need to be sized to balance out both panels when it's nearer to completion. It seems to work pretty good, but for some reason the right side of the scroll bar is cut off and it looks kind of funny. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated. I also think the "About" section needs to be rewritten. It doesn't seem to flow very well and should include a clearer definition of what articles qualify for this project. I personally think that "game" articles qualify if they are produced by Nintendo. Any color scheme suggestions would be great. See discussion here. –bse3 (talk • contribs • count • logs) 00:48, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
The redesign looks great, however, I agree that the red headers seem a little to dark. And the scroll bars are missing their right half, which looks weird. Other than that, the new look is awesome. Useight 03:34, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

- Your redesign is looking good. I do think the members scroll box is a little ugly though. I think the redirect to the members list on the old style page worked better. Also, the new page doesn't appear to have instructions for joining Category:WikiProject_Nintendo_members. Actually, I've never put my name on the members list page, I'm only listed in the category. Hmmm. The list and the category seem redundant, is one of them more official/supported than the other? Because honestly we should only need one of them.
-
-
-
- Looking further, there are actually quite a few scroll boxes. They're okay, but I'd rather they go to subpages then scrolling around on the main page like that. Especially in some of the cases where there are lists under subheadings. Lists under subheadings in a scroll box in a sidebar is not my cup of tea. I can't really rationalize what I don't like about it, it just doesn't feel quite right to me. Still, the new look is, overall, an improvement; it just needs some tweaking. Now all articles will be added to Category:WikiProject Nintendo articles in one main pool and users can define what "type" of an article it is (game, character, location, system, or corporate) for further organization.
New categories will have to be made for all the "types" of articles. These categories can all be place in Category:Nintendo articles by type which can go in Category:WikiProject Nintendo articles.

- Smash Bros. is only a party game in the sense that it's a good game to play at parties. It's not in the party game genera like Mario Party or Pac-Man Fever. It's a fighting game, like Soul Caliber and Street Fighter. Joiz A. Shmo 13:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

- You've obviously never seen any pro videos. Smash is the 2nd or 3rd largest tournament console games circuit [Melee, that is]. Seriosuly, saying it's just a praty game is retarted. You don't know the circuit, genius. Seriously, only Halo, and maybe Street Fighter are played more competitively [console games, that is]. Hint: Ken [the Melee world champion] has won around $70,000 or so on the pro circuit. It's a competitve game, not just a party game. Do your research dude=the smash world forums. So stop calling it just a party game. It is a party game, but it's also a heavily played tournament and competitve game. Seriously, there are tournaments every week, there are dozens upon dozens of bi and tri weeklies every week, and Super Smash Bros. 64 is one of the most played games on Kaillera. Know the community, before judging or saying anything. Melee has been a tournament played game since 2003, and continues to this day, and will beyond Brawl, just like Super Smash Bros. 64 before it. As for the sales, Super Smash Bros. Melee sold 7 million units. Halo 2 sold 9 million. It was the Gamecube's best selling game. That's AAA genius. It outsold Halo 1 by about 3 million units. Seriously. Stop hating on the series, and be logical. Brawl more then not will be the Wii's best selling game, and the Wii at the moment has sold more system units then the PS3 and the 360. You do the math, and you can stop being a biased fool.--faceurhell 5:20, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

- ROFL, who cares about the "tourneyfags." (a term borrowed from 4chan [1]) They represent a very small portion of the fanbase, and yet are the most vocal. Quite frankly, I couldn't care less about the competitive players and IMHO, they need to get lives and find something better to do with their time than play Smash 24/7.

- Character representation doesn't matter. Nintendo's characters are only in Smash because the game would be a generic fighter that no one would give a damn about otherwise. We all associate Mario with great platforming action and Metroid with exploration. None of this genre-defining gameplay is present in Smash. With this argument, you might as well say that Mario Golf is a high-importance game simply because almost all Mario characters are represented. However, the signature gameplay that makes a Mario game Mario (i.e. the platforming) is nowhere to be found.

- The Wii's best selling game is Wii Sports at almost 10 million copies, IIRC. I highly doubt this game will come anything close to that, especially considering that sales of Wii Sports will continue to increase as more and more casual gamers enter the market. The best selling "real" game (not a minigame collection) will most likely be Super Mario Galaxy, the next installment in Nintendo's flagship franchise, a Miyamoto-designed successor to Super Mario 64. (Mario Sunshine didn't have Miyamoto on the team, and that's why it flopped.) It's already outselling Smash on Amazon.com by a large margin (#36 vs. #52 as of yesterday night). [2]

- Yeah, I don't see any reason this is high importance material. Having a bunch of vocal competitive players trying to promote the game and their competition in everyone's faces doesn't make this franchise any more notable. Wikipedian06 08:11, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

- The reason that Wii Sports sold so much was because it came Packaged with the Wii in every country but Japan. Trust me: more people are going to buy a Wii than any particular game on the Wii. The name "Tourneyfags" is a derogatory term towards both tournament participants and homosexuals, by the way, and your denouncement of these tournament participants in the following sentences does not help your case. This is regarded as a personal attack regardless of whether your comment reached your intended targets.
- Aside from that, your personal vendetta against these games is clouding your arguments. Having a bunch of "vocal competitive players" is indeed noteworthy when cash prizes as large as 12,500 USD are given away in tornaments with participants from more than one state, let alone 30 states and two other countries. Seriously, calm down and think your arguments through before busting in with personal attacks. You Can't Review Me!!! 18:56, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Smash is nowhere near an AAA franchise with only 6 million copies sold. It's just a party game. Wikipedian06 08:34, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Consider the fact that Super Smash Bros. has only two released games to its franchise, and that 6 million becomes a pretty good figure. You Can't Review Me!!! 03:43, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- Additionally, this page pegs Smash's sales as 10.89 million, not 6 million. Metroid's not THAT much higher, at 13 million (note that I do not think Prime 3 factors into that number.) Donkey Kong is by far a bigger seller than Metroid, as well, with over three times Metroid's sales according to the same page. --HeroicJay 04:17, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedien o6 you can prove a point you but when you name call your just be childish and what's the big deal if it of high importance I mean right now its one of the games that has new information for it every day and by calling it party game defeats the purpose of you writing because so what if it is a so-called party game it still is extremely successful and if you don't call Wii Sports a party game well there is something wrong with you.Marioman12 14:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
First off, Mario Galaxy's release time has been known longer than SSBB's, i believe. Secondly, you're trying to make the point that in order to be a "AAA" franchise, the game needs to beat Nintendo's main franchise? That's pretty faulty logic. Considering the massive undertaking that nintendo is using involving this game, and the excitment generated anytime new info is released about it in the gaming media, you have no legs to stand on. Last I checked, I believe Nintendo Power had a section with new info on brawl or talking about brawl in every edition. The only person I've encountered who seems to think otherwise is you. What the heck is AAA?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.186.101.182 (talk) 18:43, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know either, but I think this whole thing is getting blown out of proportion. Would everyone settle down and start talking about the article rather than throwing around insults?
- Anyways, Wikipedian 06, it seems to me that your two main arguments are sales figures and being a "party game". As far as sales are concerned, why not wait until after the game is released. Also, just how do you define a "party game"? Sure, the Super Smash Bros. series is best known for it's multiplayer, but SSBB focuses just as much on one-player as multiplayer.
- That being said, perhaps you should double check what Atlan said earlier: "Leave it up to the project members to decide how they rate this game, or take it up with them. I have no idea why you make such an issue of this." I couldn't have said it better myself.
- Oh, and what does AAA mean, anyways? The world's hungriest paperweight 19:29, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

"High importance" is defined by the WikiProject. It's not whether or not we think it's going to sell 10 million or more copies or if it has so-and-so character in it. Whether or not it's a "party game", "fighting game", or whatever, doesn't matter and we don't need to be discussing it here. Please cease the personal attacks and only discuss how to improve THIS article. This is not a fanboy forum. Thanks. Useight 05:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

- C'mon, trashing the tourney scene...wtf? Seriously, only Halo's tournament scene is bigger, and Melee's sales dominated Halo 1's. The series's sales are well over 10 million, which makes it the best selling series with only two released entries. Donkey Kong sold well, becuase on the SNES Donkey Kong Country came packaged with the SNES, just like Wii Sports and the Wii. And enough of these 4chan quotes, that is falt out unintelligent. Halo is considered AAA, and Smash 64's and Melee's combined sales come pretty close to the Xbox version of Halo 1 and 2 combined are (behind by anywher from 2 to 3 million units at most). Brawl will make the series sell better then Metroid's, and the subject maker will have just contridicted himself. Again, Melee is the 2nd most played console tournament-played game, behind only Halo 2, and helped give re-birth to the console tournament scene, along with Halo (they both remade the console game tourney sccene together, and made it for the masses).

- And to the person who called them tourney-tards, just stop. You don't know anyone who plays msahs competitvely, so what gives you the right to judge=??? You don't have the right to judge people you don't know, PERIOD. Besides, many (if not most) of the professional players are college students as many diffrent colleges. Smash is virtually the Street Fighter of this era, and Melee is barely outsold by Street Fighter 2 as the best selling fighting game of all-time. Brawl will probably outsell both, considering the Wii's sales. The original post maker clearly doesn't know the stats, and clearly doesn't know the smash comunnity AT ALL. Donkey Kong got nearly half it's sales from the original DOnkey Kong Country, which sold around 15-20 million units, and was packaged with the SNES, the best seling game console of the 4th generation of video gaming.
-
-
-

- Mario got 40 million of it's over 190 million sales from Super Mario Bros., which was bundelded with the NES [which was the best selling system of the 3rd generation of gaming], Super Mario Bros 3's near 20 million units sold, and Super Mario World's 20 million unit sales, which is the best on the SNES. The 4th and 5th geneartion of gaming is where Donkey Kong and Mario got most of their sales. Again, Brawl will make the Super Smash Bros. series outsell Metroid [contradicting the original statement], and Brawl will make the series the second best sellling series of all-time with only 3 entries, behind only Halo. If that's not AAA, and Brawl being most likely the best selling game of the fighting genre, I don't know what is. It's a 2D party AND a 2D Fighting game. --faceurhell 7:05, 29 September 2007 (PCT)

Category Tree
I think we should put a Category Tree on the main project page for easier navigation. Maybe something like this:
<categorytree mode="all" depth="2" hideroot="on" style="border-top:2px solid #CF5440; border-bottom:2px solid #CF5440; border-left:2px solid #CF5440; border-right:2px solid #CF5440; width: 500px; height:200px; overflow:auto; padding:4px; align:left">Nintendo articles by type</categorytree>
The border matches the color used in Template:NES. The width is set so that all pages fit on one text line even with all the categories expanded. I was not able to get the depth setting to work and would also like to remove the namespace names to make it look neater. I do not know how to do this but asked here (at the bottom).

VG Sources Guideline Proposal
At Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Sources, there is a proposed guideline on sources in articles in the scope of WP:VG. As a lot of the Nintendo articles are in this scope, it may be relevant to the project. Your edits and comments are appreciated. User:Krator (t c) 15:21, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Currently, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars has two lists pertaining to it (List of characters in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). User:TTN decided it would be best to merge the lists into the main article and split Smithy Gang into those articles. I recently merged Smithy Gang into the list of chatacters by removing the non-notable characters, and I have asserted that a cameo section in the list of characters is valid, per Wikipedia:Trivia sections and Wikipedia:Handling trivia that uses Alex Trebek#Cameos as a good example. I have suggested that we rename the articles per Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves to something along the lines of Characters of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and World of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars or Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars) just like Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and World of Final Fantasy VI or Gaia (Final Fantasy VII). I believe if these articles are to evolve beyond a non-notable list, they should be renamed. For example, List of Final Fantasy VII locations was merged into Gaia (Final Fantasy VII), because a World article is notable, but a simple list of locations is not. That is why there are other secions of the article to make it a World article. It simply has not been renamed yet.
TTN believes the citations in the development and reception sections of the list of locations, books and magazines, are trivial sources. When I added that the 3D perspective of the game is reminicent of Equinox to the main article, TTN removed it since my souce was "the opinions of the Nintendo Power player's guide writers". Although it was actually Nintendo Power magazine, I do believe a magazine is a reliable source, and I gave a page from Next Generation Magazine which also said the same thing. In addition, I was surprized that TTN said that it was from the players guide, since he claims to own the players guide for the game. He has not verified this, since I asked him for citations in May, "Could you look in the back of the Player's Guide and tell me what “types” of … Magic? I forgot what they call it in the game … well, anyways, what types of Special Attack or whatever it is (actually, could you find out what it's called?) there are? I remember some vaguely when I owned the guide like “Fire”, “Jump”, “Electricity?”, etc. Could you provide a citation, like the page number with a quote in context?" TTN replied that he was going to "get to it" (User talk:TTN/Archive 5#List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). TTN claims the player's guide is "at the bottom of a box that's behind at least five others in a cramped space". Seeing that TTN did not recognize that the page was not from the player's guide when I provided a scan of the page in question from Nintendo Power shocked me. However, I have continued to assume good faith by not questioning TTN's honesty.
Per Wikipedia:Consensus#Consensus can change, I have offered five different reasonable, temporary compromises that might integrate my idea with TTN's.
- Go over the list of characters so we can delete non–notable characters
- Rename the articles by following the steps at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves.
- Cut down the geography section list of locations by cutting it into the regional maps the adventures use when traveling from one to another. I can get pictures and write the fair use rationals, and someone can cut down the text that has no citation and does not allude to other media.
- Write the concept and creation and reception sections for the list of characters
- Write the concept and creation section for the main article
TTN rejected my compromise because it still keeps the articles. I agreed I would consider a redirect, but Wikipedia:Article size does not allow that, since the list of locations is currently 82 KB long. Instead, I agreed to help cut down the geography section that is the bulk of the article, but TTN rejected that as well because TTN states, "I am not interested in working on the article in regards to improving it." and "get past this "having sources automatically means that this information is good" mentality." TTN states, "I don't think they have or will ever assert notability." I have replied with, "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so if you don't think the articles will ever assert notability, we cannot yet know this, per Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#I don't like it.
Would you please take a look at Talk:Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and give us your thoughts? Taric25 00:32, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Paper Mario Characters
a while ago I created a page that listed the characters of the paper mario series. It became a huge article, with tons of people contributing, and then once perfected, or close enough to it, people starttyed editing less. I did the same, as it had been under fire before, and was saved, but then User:TTN placed a merge suggestion, but was discourteous enough to not inform anyone, so when I only checked my talk page for messages, I was unaware of this tag. I came back to look at it, and didn't see the article, and found out it was merged, with none of the original content on the merged article. Can someone help me gather enough support to bring back this article? C. Pineda (クリス) 01:47, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm...sounds like an interesting problem. First, can you provide some links to look at so that we better know what we are dealing with? Thanks. -Zomic13 03:57, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
What link should I provide? List of Paper Mario series characters This is the article...but it's only a redirect now because of the unauthorized merge (unauthorized by my standards). C. Pineda (クリス) 03:59, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- I checked out that page. I am shocked that it was simply erased and replaced with a redirect to a list of just four characters. While it is missing a few characters, it is an extensive list with descriptions of each character. What was the argument for deleting it? At this point I would wholly support bringing it back. -Zomic13 04:50, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
TTN said that "There is no need for a general character list because we have three game articles that cover the single game characters, and this one can easily handle a few paragraphs describing the recurring characters and the general trends (various party members, explorer stereotype, ect)." That's it, and his reason for merging it without discussion was because that discussion topic wasn't talked about for a week, but of course no one knew about it because he didn't leave a friendly note on anyone's talk age (me especially as I'm the original author) and I'm sure because of the almost completeness of the article, people didn't quite see it. I know, since I don't have the time all day to check one single article. C. Pineda (クリス) 16:56, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I need help here. No effort is getting done with this, and I'm too busy during the week to keep fighting. Can someone, preferably and admin, help me out here? Or else this valuable article, filled with rich Nintendo Knowledge will be put out forever. C. Pineda (クリス) 04:30, 22 October 2007 (UTC) Nevermind, I took matters into my own hands. The discussion is being put to rest, because of more support on one side. thanks to those who tried to help. C. Pineda (クリス) 00:20, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Ducktales Question
I've done a little work on this article and had a quick question. According to the tag on the discussion page of the article it lists this as being a "start class" article in this project. I think this article is a little better than start class at this point. How do articles get reassessed in the project. I'm thinking it's at least a B class article at this point. Elhector 22:33, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I wouldn't grade that as B-Class. The sectioning needs to be completely redone. There should be a Development section and a Critical reception section. Condense relevant material into a Gamplay section and remove game guide content. The article needs much more references, and has weasel words ("seems to be one of the more notable video game compositions...") with no citation to back them up. Pagrashtak 15:00, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Out of curiosity, would you be able to provide me an example of article on an NES game that meets the standards that you listed above? I'd like to take a look at one and see exactly what you mean by the different aritcle sections and stuff. I'd then like to use it as a guide to rebuild the DuckTales article. I had a lot of fun playing DuckTales as a kid and I think it's a NES classic so I'd like to work on bringing the article up to par. Thanks! Elhector 18:28, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- You should be able to look at just about any of our VG featured articles to get a good idea of typical structure. I played DuckTales when I was young, too—good luck with the article. Pagrashtak 18:34, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I just put a new version of the article up. I made some rewrites and some structural changes. Would you mind taking a look at it and telling me what you think? I am going to continue working on the article in the mean time. Need to work on references and such. Also, if anyone else reading this could take a look at the article and let me know what they think that would be very helpful :-) Elhector 21:29, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Two things:
First, I have a question about the Wikiproject page. Is the following item really neccessary?
- It is best to make a personal copy of an article, just in case you get into some sort of edit war or a revert war. However, be sure to stay cool.
Couldn't you just look at the article's history? Or is this in case the article gets deleted or something?
Second, I'm new to the Nintendo Wikiproject (and also Wikipedia). I've improved the article Nitrobike a bit, and I was wondering if it would be okay to remove the stub tags. Also, feel free to give some suggestions about the article if you'd like.
Filovirus 05:56, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- For the first thing, it isn't necessary - the history contains any copy you would ever need. For the second thing, I would say that the article is almost there, but it still needs a little more before the it would be a Start class article. If you add another section and maybe a screenshot, then it could probably be bumped up. -Zomic13 06:27, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

- Thank you! I saw the changes you made to the article, it looks better having the screenshot and the references properly displayed. Also, thanks for seperating the online multiplayer stuff. I think I'll try to figure out what another section of the article could be about now... Filovirus 08:11, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

RPG's on the Wii
I'm curious, does the Wii have any Role Playing Games to speak of yet? I know that there is a Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on the horizon and a Dragon Quest, but what about other games? Does anyone know of anything? --ZeWrestler Talk 19:55, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
