[edit] Does the All-Time Team deserve own article?
On the page for the 2007 Pittsburgh Steelers season there is information about the Steelers recently selected 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. Does this team deserve its own page? Blackngold29 (talk) 23:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I was wondering the same thing, as it isn't necessarily something that belongs to only the 2007 season. Fruminous (talk) 23:19, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
-
- I just noticed that the All-Time Team has its own section within the Pittsburgh Steelers main article, perhaps the one in the 2007 season should simply be deleted. Though I still think having its own article would be good. Blackngold29 (talk) 20:47, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- I removed the All-Time Team section from the 2007 season article. It remains on the main team article.Blackngold29 (talk) 05:55, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
-
I created a template (It's on the main article) for the members of the 75th Anniversary Team and put it on all of the members.

[edit] Season pages
Within the past couple of weeks we've kind of stalled on the individual season pages. I've hadn't had too much time to work on them myself. Me and Fruminous have pretty much been working on them, with Fruminous doing the stats and me doing the highlights of the seasons. But we can't be doing these ourselves, either. We need help. Furthermore, we definitely need to work on the earlier years. Before 1968, we only have had two pages created (1933 and 1952), plus the Steagles and Card-Pitt pages (since those were one-shot deals there, I thought that using those instead of creating likely duplicate pages that would likely be merged anyways was a better option), and that's it right now. If we can get more help on the season templates, feel free to it. Thanks! Jgera5 (talk) 05:29, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- I've been trying to concentrate on the schedules and get them into a nice (and colorized) format. If you need help with anything else I'd be glad to help, but it is difficult to find info about earlier seasons, (NFL.com starts in 1970) if you have any good sites I could try to spread what I do around some. Unfortunately, I guess we have to whole off-season to work now. And I start school next week, I'll try to do as much as I can in my spare time though. Thanks.Blackngold29 (talk) 06:00, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
-
- With the holidays and a business school application, I've been a little tight on time lately. I'll pick things back up in a couple of weeks. I'd like to work with everyone to build a definition of a proper season page on the subproject page. I also plan to begin looking through microfilm to get scoring drives and game summaries for all of the season games.
-
- I suggest that we start by working together on the 1978 season page to put it into what we consider "ideal" format.
-
- Thanks to everyone, especially both of you, Jgera5 and Blackngold29, and the mystery author "24.3.76.168" for all of the work that you have done on these pages.
-
-
- I've been thinking that an "ideal format" page would be a great thing to do. I think that it is a great idea, can't wait to get started. Blackngold29 (talk) 20:55, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

- Great! I'll try to get to the library this week and get articles and game stats for the 1978 season this week. Once I have them, let's discuss what we should go and shouldn't go on the pages. I do know that the NFL project has what they consider an ideal format on the 1990 Giants' season (I think that it's the one...) that may give us some ideas. There's a lot that we can add to it, I'm sure.
-
-
-
-
-
- I'm near Chicago, not Pittsburgh, so I will probably have access to only the AP box scores and game summaries, rather than the Post-Gazette, but it should be a good start.
-
-
-
-
-
- Once we start coming to something solid, we should put it on the Steelers' subproject page to guide and encourage input from the greater community.
-
-
The page listed as the model page is the 1990 New York Giants season, but after looking through it I actually think the Steelers 2007 page is better. We need better intros on most seasons, and rosters and coaching staffs. But the 1990 Giants don't have a good schedule or even drive summaries for each game. I don't think we should have everything possible, who cares if Bob Smith announced a game in 1942 on CBS. But we should do what we can. I'll do the schedule for 1978 as soon as I can. [edit] Season Page Template Content Brainstorm
Hi everyone-
I'd like to suggest that we start listing what content that we could include on the season pages. Once we have a list that's acceptable to us, we can begin prioritizing what content to get on the season pages. I'll get the ball rolling on some ideas. Feel free to add as you see fit:
Fruminous (talk) 06:08, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

- Roster
- Pre Season Summary
- Pre season games?
- Regular season games
- Summaries

- Post Season Summary
- Post season games
- Pro bowl players
- MVPs and other awards

In my sandbox I have created a Model Schedule using the 2007 season. If you would like to make any adjustments to it (Adding coulumns, removing links, etc.) I'd love to hear your suggestions. Just put them here or on the discussion page of my sandbox. After we finalize a model I would like to use it for all seasons (obviously I will remove the TV columns etc. for the earlier years, but use what I can when I can.)Blackngold29 (talk) 16:23, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Subproject User Template
Hi all!-
I've created a user template for our subproject. You can find it on the main page.
Fruminous (talk) 06:44, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Myron Cope
Sadly, Myron Cope passed away this morning. I added him to the project, as he is very much a part of Steelers culture. If anyone has a problem with this you can discuss it here. Thank You. Blackngold29 (talk) 14:56, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Blackngold29-
It makes perfect sense. I've been adding our tag to as many of the players' and coaches' pages as I can. It's sad to lose Myron. Feel free to keep adding our tag to the pages that you think make sense.
I also wanted to mention to you that I managed to get all of the scoring drives onto the 1978 season a couple of weeks ago. I want to get actual descriptions of the games in place, but have been swamped with work and classes. My break is this coming week, so I might be able to get down to the library and look through some microfilm. As we discussed, it would be a good idea to get the 1978 page in shape.
I put a bunch of pages going back to the 1940s for the other seasons. I'd like to finish that effort this week too.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to collaborating with you on these pages.
Fruminous (talk) 21:34, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- That sounds great I'll see what I can do on the 1978 season. NFL.com has the leading passer, reciever, and rusher for every game. Perhaps those could be added. Under the Steelers schedule, pick the year. I think they go back to 1970. Blackngold29 (talk) 21:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- I have PDFs of every NFL game, with scoring drives and game summaries back to 1922. Some of their detail is more in-depth than what's on NFL.com. I've been able to convert all of them to text. We could figure out a way that I could get them to you , if you'd like. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fruminous (talk • contribs) 07:12, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Roster
There is currently only one roster for the Steelers, which is the current roster. I think that we should start making one for each season, as has been done here (as much as I hate saying the Patriots have something better than we do). I'll start working on this in the next few days, anyone who would like to help would be much appreciated. Just say so here and I'll get back to you. We should do the same thing with the staff, but only one per season. Thanks. Blackngold29 (talk) 18:24, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Looks good to me. That way, we could place it on the players' pages. We'd need to be able to place it on the page expanded or hidden. Fruminous (talk) 04:55, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bye Week / Date
After creating many season schedule summaries for individual season articles, there have been users (usually unregistered) who have added an indiviual date (usually that of Sunday) to the bye week. I don't think that bye weeks should be a given a date, as not all games are played on Sunday. Is there a "view" of the project on this matter? I would appreciate knowing one way or the other, so I can either add the date in the future, or report those who add the date for vandalism. I have posted this same messege over on the NFL WikiProject's talk page and have recieved no replies, perhaps this can be our policy if one does not exist there, I would like to know one way or the other, because it is getting quite annoying. Thank You. Blackngold29 (talk) 00:01, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- My feeling is that we should note the bye week in your schedule table, but not in the season sections. It's just unnecessarily used space, otherwise. The numbering of weeks in the game sections should conform to the NFL schedule and not the Xth game that the Steelers played. Sorry that I didn't catch this note sooner. Fruminous (talk) 04:52, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, but I was more concerned as to whether or not we should have a date in the schedule table. What are your thoughts on that? A few guys over at the NFL Project agreed with me that we should not include it. Blackngold29 (talk) 04:55, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- Yeah -- good catch here. Actually, that's the way that I originally wanted to set up the pages (No days of week in the tables. Days of week in game sections.) but the mystery author kept adding them to the tables. I finally decided to let him have his way for the time being while I worked on other things. I'm for changing them back to the way that you want them. Fruminous (talk) 04:59, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- I would assume that since there is no discussion about it we could delete all of the dates, referencing this conversation and/or the one over in the NFL Project discussion page. If the mystery author continues to re-add them without giving a good reason in the argument, then he could be reported for vandalism. Blackngold29 (talk) 05:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hey -- I removed the days of the week from the tables on the 1978 page. Let me know if I'm on the same page as you before I go off and do something stupid. ;-) Fruminous (talk) 05:18, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Wow stop, I'm talking about "dates" as in: March 20, 2008 not "days of the week". I put the days in. Here's an example: 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers season#Regular season. See how he put "Sunday October 2" in the bye week? It shouldn't be there because it's a bye week not a bye day. Understand? Blackngold29 (talk) 05:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
No problem... That's why I asked you first! ;-) Fruminous (talk) 05:27, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
OK -- I looked at 2005. Personally, I'd suggest what I did with the 1978 season -- meaning that we link the week to the actual game, where the reader could find the day of the week. It would be good to avoid information overload in the tables. That said, I'm not really opposed to putting the day of the week in the table. The schedules have been your brainchild -- I'll happily defer to your judgement on them. Fruminous (talk) 05:31, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Cool, sounds good. I'm not gonna make a huge effort, but over time we should be able to take care of everything. Blackngold29 (talk) 05:36, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm gonna revise the schedule on the 1978 season now. I'll let you know when I'm done. Blackngold29 (talk) 05:38, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] List of Pittsburgh Steelers head coaches
Multiple teams have created a list of their head coaches, I think we should do the same. I've started an early draft of the page in my sandbox. It needs a lot of stuff added before we should create the page. Reference List of Chicago Bears head coaches, List of Green Bay Packers head coaches, or List of Washington Redskins head coaches if you need help.
We should also start working on a list of first-round draft picks. You can reference List of Seattle Seahawks first-round draft picks, List of Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round draft picks, List of Washington Redskins first-round draft picks to get started. Thanks. Blackngold29 (talk) 16:54, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've created the page. I would appreciate if someone could re-check the stats, I'm pretty confident they are correct, but it's a lot of numbers. The intro also needs expanded. Thank you. Blackngold29 (talk) 22:23, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- It looks great. When I was entering in the seasons, I came across Bert Bell as one of the three coaches in 1941. It appears that you didn't include him. The order of the three coaches' tenures was a little unclear. The links to the season pages are a good idea. I like your solution for the Steagles and Card-Pitt seasons.
-
-
- Thanks, I added Bell. It is still unclear, however, if Bell or Donelli coached first in the 1941 season. Different sources give different orders, but I assume some of them are simply listing the three coaches in alphabetical order. Blackngold29 (talk) 03:44, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
-
I have the order of 1941 Steelers coaches from a pretty reliable source. It appears that we have them in the correct order now, on both the coaches page and the succession boxes. Fruminous (talk) 13:27, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
The article is looking pretty good, but it still needs an expansion of the intro paragrah and more pictures of coaches. Either one of these would be a helpful improvement. I hope after a few more things are added to nominate it for Featured List status. Blackngold29 (talk) 18:13, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I have nominated the List of Pittsburgh Steelers head coaches for Featured List status. At first it was opposed by a few others, but they gave me enough suggestions to fix the problems. There are now two supports, meaning one more support and we got it. You can leave your comments here.
Next list I'll be working on is the List of Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft picks. It looks alright now, but could still use some work. There are a number of other comparable lists from other teams to go on (See: Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League#Featured lists). Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Blackngold29 03:55, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Pittsburgh Steelers revision
I have moved the revision to this page. After the Steelers page is done being worked on we can move onto another article to revise, you can nominate a canidate on the discussion page. Thank you! Blackngold29 02:20, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- Is there anyone who would like to help with the revision? I was thinking of re-writing it from the ground up (using the existing article as much a I can obviously), but I don't want to do it alone; as it will take a very long time. If I could get anyone else to help, I would gladly start soon. Blackngold29 20:36, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Pittsburgh Sports WP
I had an idea to start a WikiProject with a concentration on the sports of Pittsburgh, it would be a sub-project of the Pittsburgh's WikiProject. I was originally planning on working in conjunction with this project, but it seems that participation in this project has dwindled of late, therefore I don't think it would be a bad idea to merge this project into the new one. The Steelers would remain a large part (probably the largest) of the new project. A basic outline of my idea can be found here. Any ideas that you might have would be appreciated. Thank You! Blackngold29 05:26, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Weekly game recaps
I've been adding quite a bit to the 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers season article, and have been thinking of different ways to make it look better. This is what I was thinking as to the style of the recaps for each game: I have removed the date from the heading, because it was simply not necessary and made the titles look over-powering with so much info (It can also be found at the schedule box at the top of the page). I've put the basic recap info into two columns; using only one left empty space that we can easily fill by adding the columns. I added a link to the NFL.com recap. If it were up to me, I would eliminate the "TV Announcers" because I don't really think it is notable info, it has no effect on the game, and I honestly don't care that Solomon Wilcots announced the game for CBS during the sixth week, do you?
[edit] Week 1: Houston Texans
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | Total | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Texans | 0 | ||||
Steelers | 0 |

And then the prose recap would obviously go here. A lot of the other leagues are using this style of recap for games. Which I like, because all the scoring drives could be added, but also be hidden until they are needed, which saves space. Unfortunately, I'm not very good with figuring out how to alter templates like that to match our needs, but I'd gladly work with someone who does to develop one. All questions, comments, and suggestions are welcome!! Thanks! Blackngold29 00:11, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- I will soon be developing an template with Sukh17. If anyone would like to help let me know. I have ideas, but he knows how to make it happen, he's done good work in the past. Thanks! Blackngold29 02:51, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I'd just add an area for box-score style scoring drives. I've set them up for all seasons up to the early 80s and want to get them all the way up to last season soon.
I like the format, but don't know if I'll have the time to apply it back to 1934 anytime soon. ;-)
Fruminous (talk) 03:10, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Haha, yeah. That'll take a while. This was what I thought for the outcome of the new template: Blackngold29 03:54, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] The Terrible Towel (A Pittsburgh Original)
Hey guys, I just spent the past three day completely re-writing the Terrible Towel article. I felt Myron deserved a better article about his great invention. Anyway, go on over and see if there's any mistakes that I made. Thanks! Blackngold29 05:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
