[edit] Cla68

As a first proposal, I suggest awarding the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves to Cla68 (talk · contribs), to recognize his many contributions to articles, and, in particular, his creation of numerous featured articles. Thoughts? Kirill Lokshin 00:50, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

  1. Looks like a good candidate. Support. Wandalstouring 13:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
  2. Support this nomination as well. Carom 20:42, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
  3. Support - Creators of featured articles need to be featured as well ;) -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 10:02, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Okay, looks like we have our majority support. Barring any last-minute changes, I think we can go ahead and award them with the following citation:

By the order of the coordinators of the Military history WikiProject, Cla68 is hereby awarded the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves in recognition of his many valuable contributions to articles, and, in particular, his leading role in the creation of numerous featured articles on the topic of the Pacific Theater of World War II.

(Is the wording too pretentious? Suggestions would be very welcome!)

We can keep this discusssion open for a few more days to see if any other coordinators want to comment, of course. Kirill Lokshin 13:41, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I think that citation is acceptable - why be a military-related WikiProject if we can't be a little pretentious? ; ) Carom 15:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I've gone ahead and awarded it, then. Kirill Lokshin 01:40, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

A strong begining, not a coordinator so I can't leave a mention in the main body of discussion. Since this is the first Nommination there may be a few faux-pas, such as this one. Although unwriten in the main page (article) is the proposed statement Editors are welcome to comment on nominations in progress, but are requested not to make personal attacks or unneccessarily negative remarks. applicable?--Dryzen 20:15, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

I would think that was pretty implicit; should that be made more explicit in the award description itself? (I'm somewhat concerned that such wording would be interpreted as overly elitist; after all, are there any cases where editors aren't welcome to comment?) Kirill Lokshin 21:01, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
I know there arn't any cases where editors aren't welcomed to comment but not all editors know that. Some may think that his is a Coordinators only section as only the coordinators are explicitly named in the Award scope. Akin to Coordinators' page open to the public but most editors thinking it off limits.
Normal things to look over and polish till the Project Awards becomes a well greaced machine.--Dryzen 12:42, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I think it a fitting citation for a fitting award. recomendations for recognition are made where for the participant editors? I've got a few names of deserving persons, as well--Dryzen

Just creating new sections on this page for each editor you recommend seems like the easiest approach. Kirill Lokshin 19:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kirill Lokshin I

I would like to nomminate to receive the award of the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves to Kirill Lokshin (talk · contribs). In recognition of his many contributions to articles, his creation of numerous featured articles and most importantly his limitless devotion to this very project and the wikipedia community of editors in general. Be this devotion as an editor, a coordinator, an administrator or as a friend, an advisor or teacher. --Dryzen 17:46, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

  1. Support Without a doubt. Carom 18:55, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
No support for any coordinator as long as he is in office. Wandalstouring 17:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Could you please clarify this comment a little? Carom 17:25, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I think Wandalstouring means that coordinators shouldn't be eligible for the award as long as they're in office. (Which is, admittedly, a good point; it'd slightly resemble Brezhnev's habit of awarding himself medals. ;-) Kirill Lokshin 17:28, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Meh. Since you can't self-nominate, I don't think it's problematic, as long as you don't vote in your own favor. And, as one can theoretically remain in office indefinitely, it seems a little odd to deny the award to someone who has demonstrated both dedication to the project and the support of the members. But that's just me... Carom 17:35, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Right Kirill and it doesn't mean that I don't think you deserve it. Wandalstouring
From the last election processes looks like Kirill Lokshin's going to have to wait a long time before get his deserved award. The same for a portion assistant-coordinators. There is a reason why they hold office. :oP --Dryzen
It makes the award really valuable and to stick with Brezhnev, it doesn't look any better if the CPC awards Brezhnev and Brezhnev awards the CPC. Wandalstouring 17:01, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Kirill deserves it no doubt. I say give it to him, in office or not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pupster21 (talkcontribs)
During the next election do you think for a second between stepping down from office as Lead Coordinator and taking the title up again we can post the Award? I understand your point Wandalstouring, but would of still liked to have given the Award regardless of tenure of position. As mentioned it was not a Coordinator that proposed. --Dryzen 13:34, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Support, but I also agrre with Wandalstouring on the fact that it shouldn't be to someone in office right now. Dreamy 01:47, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RM Gillespie

I'd like to nominate RM Gillespie (talk · contribs), in recognition of his massive efforts to improve our coverage of the Vietnam War, culminating in the development of a substantial portion of the project's A-Class articles. Kirill Lokshin 15:44, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

  1. Support Beat me to it, Kirill. Carom 15:59, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  2. Support Many of the articles RM's worked on are keen examples of what an article should be. Keep up the good work! LordAmeth 05:05, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
  3. Support for the massive effort, but he can improve his works and better listen to reviews. Wandalstouring 17:39, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wilsbadkarma

I hearby nominate Wilsbadkarma (talk · contribs) for his work on lists (included two featured lists) and portals (including one featured portal). Lists especially are an undermanned area of work, and his excellent efforts deserve commendation. Carom 22:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

First I would like to thank everyone involved in awarding me the Wiki Chevrons with Oak Leaves. It was a wonderful surprise :-) Second I strongly Support awarding Halibutt the Wiki Chevrons with Oak Leaves. I currently work with him on a graphic of the Polish Land Forces and he is surely one of the most hard working and worthy contributors to the Military history WikiProject. --noclador 22:13, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay, awarded. Kirill 14:04, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] SandyGeorgia

Although not technically a part of our project, I would like to nominate SandyGeorgia (talk · contribs) for the chevrons; Sandy has been instramental in the FA process as a whole by checking FAC articles for our project (and others as well) to ensure that citation are correctly configured, and by helping clear the backlog of FA-class articles that no longer meet FA criteria from our project (and others as well). I dare say that most articles listed under the FA-class showcase wouldn't be there if Sandy hadn't chipped in her two cents. As noted above, she is not technically a part of the project, but has been award the project Chevrons for her work in helping FA-class MILHIST articles achieve and maintain FA-class status, and the project part notes that "Nominees should generally be members of the WikiProject," meaning that a few good editers outside the project may still be eligable for the award.

[edit] JKBrooks85

I'd like to nominate JKBrooks85 (talk · contribs), in recognition of his diligent efforts to improve our coverage of fortifications in the American Civil War, and, in particular, his creation of a substantial number of A-Class articles. Kirill 16:56, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I hereby nominate Marine 69-71 (talk · contribs) (aka Tony the Marine) for the Chevron w/ oak leaves, Tony has been a driving force behind the creation of a number of Hispanic and Puerto Rico based article on Wikipedia (a list can be viewed on his userpage), and he has helped a number of Purto Rican and Hispanic articles with Military History based focuses achieve FA-class status. [edit] Mike Christie

I'd like to nominate Mike Christie (talk · contribs), in recognition of his outstanding work on Anglo-Saxon military history, including the production of numerous featured articles. Mike isn't formally a member of the project, but he's been responsible for a half-dozen FAs on Anglo-Saxon rulers—a topic which naturally includes a heavy dose of military history. Kirill 23:39, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Ok, awarded. Kirill 02:23, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blnguyen

I'd like to nominate Woodym555 (talk · contribs), in recognition of his outstanding work on topics related to the Victoria Cross, notably including the creation of featured articles, featured lists, and a featured topic. Kirill 19:51, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Ok, awarded. --ROGER DAVIES talk 08:17, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dapi89

I'd like to nominate Dapi89 (talk · contribs), in recognition of his outstanding work on topics related to the history of the Luftwaffe and its personnel, especially for the tremendous effort he has put into the article History of the Luftwaffe during World War II.MisterBee1966 (talk) 11:05, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Mmm, I don't know. It's a good article, to be sure; but we've mostly awarded this for a long-term pattern of top-caliber (i.e. A-Class or FA) writing, rather than for a single article, no matter how excellent. Particularly as this hasn't been taken through a formal review process yet, it strikes me as a more appropriate occasion for an award of the regular WikiChevrons (which I note that Dapi hasn't yet received in any case). Kirill 14:06, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  • I agree with Kirill here. MisterBee1966 could consider awarding the standard WikiChevrons himself. This is not to say that, longer-term, Dapi will not be a suitable recipient, it just seems a bit premature right now. (Incidentally, this reminds me, we really ought to put a nowiki subst string just below the mention of the Chevrons on the awards page to make it easier to hand out. I know you dislike boxed awards, Kirill, but they do display much more neatly on talk pages so, if no one objects, I'll subst a boxed one :) --ROGER DAVIES talk 09:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Fine with me; you could even use the {{WikiChevrons}} template. Kirill 13:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
  • It is basically just that – {{subst:WikiChevrons|message ~~~~}} – but probably looks easier to use ... --ROGER DAVIES talk 14:01, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose as per Kirill and Roger Davies. TomStar81 (Talk) 08:54, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Okay I awarded the WikiChevrons myself. MisterBee1966 (talk) 15:50, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bwmoll3

I'd like to nominate Bwmoll3 (talk · contribs) in recognition of his superior contributions to very many US Air Force pages. He's methodically gone though USAF wings and installations vastly improving more than I can count. While I'm not aware of any of his articles being featured, he has contributed a great deal of time greatly increasing the quality of USAF history on Wikipedia.Ndunruh (talk) 17:45, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Support; the sheer scale of the work here is amazing. Kirill 17:57, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Support: excellent work though not yet a regular Chevrons recipient. I'd be reluctant to jump the regular Chevrons stage too often.--ROGER DAVIES talk —Preceding comment was added at 09:14, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Roger Davies

I'd like to nominate Roger Davies (talk · contribs) for the WikiChevron with Oak Leaves for his incomparable work on the Assessment Drive 2007 and for patiently and comprehensively answering every single doubt that the editors had. Along with all this, he even had time to tag articles. No one deserves this more. Sniperz11talk|edits 12:28, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Convention is that currently serving coordinators are not eligible to receive the award. Kirill 15:53, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Too bad... Can't there be a rule allowing for that under certain conditions, for eg, no self-nomination, no nomination by coords and the like. Coz I dont see a problem with awards for work that really deserves it, especially when a majority of MILHIST members also concur. Anyway, had to try. Cheers mate. Sniperz11talk|edits 16:28, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bedford

This editor has made an outstanding contribution to the project's organisation by tagging and assessing a massive 10,000 articles in the recent drive. Additionally, he has scrupulously added task forces, even though this was optional.--ROGER DAVIES talk 06:54, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Support he's got me beat :-) Seriously though, he has earned this award. TomStar81 (Talk) 07:08, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Wholehearted Support - Bedford has seriously earned it. Sniperz11talk|edits 09:47, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Support, although I would suggest changing the citation to something less numeric (e.g. "... in recognition of the outstanding contribution he has made to the project's organization by going above and beyond the call of duty in tagging, assessing, and classifying a massive number of articles during the 2007 assessment drive."). Kirill 11:25, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] MBK004

I hereby nominate MBK004 for the chevron w/oak leaves award for his outstanding effort to improve our compliment of naval ships by updating infoboxes, replacing deprecated infoboxes, and locating sources for ships in the employment of their respective countries navies. He has received two chevron awards for working on the tag and assess drive and USS Illinois (BB-65), respectively, and is a member in good standing with both our project and WP:SHIPS.

[edit] Hlj

Nomination by BusterD:

A request to ignore all rules
I'd like to seek consensus to award User:Hlj the Wikichevrons with Oak leaves even though Hal isn't a member of this project, and even though he's never received the wikichevrons, though he did receive similar acclaim from Kirill back in 2006. IMHO, he's one of the most consistently fine editors in the ACW cluster, and many of our ACW battles, biographies and theaters articles would be impoverished without the enduring contributions and keen eyes of this retiring yet accomplished editor. I've posted a similarly named thread here. Please take any support or other discussion there. Sorry for the cross post, but in this case, IMHO, an exception might best be granted. BusterD (talk) 18:39, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Please support or oppose the nomination here please. --ROGER DAVIES talk 18:53, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Of course, what is truly inexcusable is that the nominee doesn't yet have the Chevrons. --ROGER DAVIES talk 19:19, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
He does have them—he was one of the first set of recipients back in March 2006! ;-) Kirill (prof) 01:14, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I hereby nominate Buckshot06 for the Wikichevrons with Oak Leaves, in recognition of his daily tireless efforts to improve this project and the quality of its articles. He has already received the wikichevrons last year. --Eurocopter (talk) 11:08, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Piotrus

I hereby nominate Piotrus for Wikichevrons with Oak-Leaves. Although he has never received wikichevrons (I can't actually find his awards page, for that matter), his contributions to Polish Military History are phenomenal, including the creation of 9 Featured Articles, 2 A-Class Articles, & 3 GA-Class Articles on the subject. Cheers! Cam (Chat) 18:30, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
