Request for assessment: Labyrinth (band)

I would like to request that this article be assessed as I have a expanded it quite nicely, IMO. I would really appreciate, as I have taken it upon myself to do the best I can with this article, as I have become a fan of the band (today, as a result of workin' on the page). --Crash Underride 07:46, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

The article has some serious sourcing problems. Everything must be verifiable, and should be cited to reliable sources. J Milburn (talk) 11:08, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I'll try to work on that. --Crash Underride 20:11, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Could someone please help me find sources for Labyrinth? All I get on Google are for the movie, and stuff about ACTUAL labyrinths!!! HELP!!!! --Crash Underride 20:53, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Where did you get the info from in the first place? In the mean time, Blabbermouth news, Blabbermouth reviews, Rockdetector, All Music Guide biography and All Music Guide reviews are some good places to start. J Milburn (talk) 21:23, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I snaked it off of their site, HOWEVER, I re-worded it, cleaned up grammar, punctuations, spelling, etc. (due to it being writin' by people who speak Italian as a first language and English second), removed as much PoV as possble, and I did my best to NOT commit anything against guidelines. But yeah, I'll check out those sites and take over. Oh, in case no one knows....I hear by proclaim that Labyrinth (band) is now MY job. If anyone wants to help, leave me a message on what you would like done. The only reason I'm sayin' this is that it's easier for ONE person to clean-up and make the article better than have a bunch of people doin' and undoin' stuff all in one or two days and the thin endin' up the way it started out. Thanks, --Crash Underride 06:59, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Please see this policy- though you are likely to be the only one working on the article, please do not believe that you have any more right to be doing so than anyone else. J Milburn (talk) 16:50, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I'm sorry, I figured you'd know I was jokin'. Sorry for the confusion.I mean come on I knew that I couldn't do that. lol --Crash Underride 06:38, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Whoops, sorry, you never can be sure... J Milburn (talk) 14:22, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
It's ok, I have...um...unique sense of humor lol. Granted you're British and I'm from, the south, (West Virginia to be precise lol). --Crash Underride 19:09, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Hey J, Could you check out the article and assess it for me? I assessed it as a Start class as best right now. I was using Blabbermouth News.net to update it some but, I'm taking an hour and a half off to eat, but I'll be back. If you have any comments on it leave on it's talk page or mine either one, is fine. Thanks a mill. --Crash Underride 02:19, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Linkin Park

Are Linkin Park under the scope of this WikiProject? 86.135.80.62 (talk) 14:18, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't see why not. J Milburn (talk) 14:50, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I personally don't see Linkin Park as a metal band. However, a great quantity of sources label them so. Therefore, I believe that Linkin Park is under the scope of this project among others. WikiProject Rock, I think, should be just as appropriate as WikiProject Metal. Zouavman Le Zouave 14:52, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm not so sure. I think they are really borderline. I personally don't think they are metal and shouldn't be under the scope. However, that is just my opinion. —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 18:46, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
This kind of discussion is pretty irrelevent- it doesn't really matter whether something is or is not under our scope- our aim is to improve Wikipedia, not to reject anything non-metal from Wikipedia. They are commonly linked with metal, and their fans do include many fans of metal, and so I don't see any harm in grouping them with metal bands, for purposes of finding people who may be interested in helping with the article. J Milburn (talk) 18:57, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Alright. Should we put a template on the talk page? —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 19:00, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
No harm in doing so. J Milburn (talk) 19:17, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I just didn't see the scope template on the talk page, and I wondered whether they were under this project. That's all. Thanks for reading, ThunderMaster UTC 08:20, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
They are now. :D —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 21:43, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes. Linkin Park is a nu metal band, which is a major metal genre. WesleyDodds (talk) 05:09, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

What about Chevelle? I don't consider them a heavy metal band, but they are heavier than Linkin Park I'd say. —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 00:46, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
As far as I know, Chevelle are an alternative metal band, so yes. WesleyDodds (talk) 01:18, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Waysted

I started this article ages ago but I have no real interest in or knowledge of the band. Any fans want to expand it? Exxolon (talk) 23:44, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do, if I can find the time. LuciferMorgan (talk) 12:10, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Powerglove

I've created a stub with a couple of references for the heavy metal band Powerglove on what was formerly a redirect page for the accessory. While it's a decent start, it's definitely a stub and needs a lot of help. I'm more involved with Wikiproject Sega than this one, though, so I could use help from editors here. Redphoenix526 (Talk) 03:52, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I've given the article a small cleanup- there's no urgent need for improvement/expansion, it's not in too bad a state. J Milburn (talk) 20:11, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Video Game Metal

In regards to Powerglove: I've seen this genre tag added to a few bands' infoboxes- thoughts on whether or not there should be an article for it? My only concern is notability, there's really only a handful of bands that really play VGM. That said, if we don't create a separate genre article, maybe the genre tag for these bands should be changed to video game music instead. There is a section there for video game music outside of games, where these bands or at least the style could be mentioned. Alternately this could be considered a fusion genre but again, notability. Thee darcy (talk) 17:04, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

If some decent reliable sources can be found, I very much support a section being created in the video game music article. If that ends up too long, split it out to its own section. J Milburn (talk) 19:13, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Video Game Metal? Don't wish to sound disrepectful, but I have never seen any notable critics (or non-notable ones for that matter) use the term. Therefore, it does not exist in my eyes. LuciferMorgan (talk) 11:55, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I agree with LuciferMorgan. There are no reliable sources supporting a claim for notability. If the articl was created, I would recommend an AfD. Zouavman Le Zouave 12:22, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

I've added a bit of information to Video Game Music for now.Thee darcy (talk) 21:42, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

The genre could be created with sources. It might apply to some bands like Mr. Bungle, Dragonforce and Powerglove. 86.135.80.62 (talk) 13:04, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Doom metal

Just wondering, I noticed the expert tag on doom metal and I was wondering whether anyone here was knowledgable on this particular subject. 86.135.80.62 (talk) 13:05, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

I do not believe you need to be an expert on anything to contribute effectively to wikipedia. The only thing you need to be good at is searching online (and offline if possible) for references, references and more references. That's really all there is to it. Right now, I'm busy improving the folk metal article at my personal sandbox. I'll probably be done with it in a few days but I intend to return to the gothic metal article after that for further improvement on my rewrite. I might work on the doom metal article after that. Then again, I might work on some other heavy metal subgenre article first. Almost every article on a metal subgenre is in terrible condition, after all. I'll be more than happy if someone else were to improve the doom metal article to a high standard before I do since I can devote my time on some other article. I do believe it need a complete overhaul like most other articles here on a heavy metal subgenre. It should not be difficult to find sources for doom metal given that it's a pretty big genre. --Bardin (talk) 14:18, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
I also agree the idea of needing an expert is silly- I despise those tags, and just do not understand the point. Doom metal has been rewritten a few times before, but neither attempt improved it much. I'll take a look at it and maybe clean it a little, but I personally do not want to take it on as a project at this time. J Milburn (talk) 15:35, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
I am a total Doom metal geek, I will take a look at this page and suggest some changes if needed. --Goatkid (talk) 22:19, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Wow, I just took a very quick look, and this page needs to be completely redone. Really sloppy. Where are the ref's? --Goatkid (talk) 22:21, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Completely agree. We need someone to help rewrite it, again... J Milburn (talk) 22:31, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Opeth is a Featured article candidate

Hey everyone, Opeth is currently a Featured article candidate, and we could use a few reviews - so take a look at let us know if everything looks good. \m/ Skeletor2112 (talk) 04:47, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Hurt - specific intrerest in the wiki of this band

I know its one sided and i know selfish but everyones gotta start somewhere... im about to undertake getting clued up on wiki quality to work on the band HURTs wiki's myself and a few others are discussing atm whos up for the task so i just thought id shout on here that at least one band on wiki will be worked on, also hurts wikis seem to be in very early stages so there looks like a lot of work is needed. once i know what im doing on hurts wikis ill be sure to look at other wikis within this project to see if i can help. dont ask me to sign in or add myself to this project as i will later today just need to find my wiki login details again as i cant remember them - by scorpionfoot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.107.6.35 (talk) 19:22, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Genre format (again)

I have noticed a group of users have begun to mass change the genre section of infoboxes from line break separated format to comma separated format (mainly in metal/hard rock articles). In doing so they ignore a couple of guidelines, etc..

  • Firstly, WP:MUSTARD states genres should not be capitalized (however, they insist on using the following format: e.g. "Death metal, Groove metal, Power metal")
  • Secondly, there is no guideline that states commas should be used (but there is a group_or_band example using line breaks, see Template:Infobox Musical artist)
  • Thirdly, metal genres are long (sometime consisting of 3 words like symphonic black metal). In some infoboxes the genres are displayed on 2 lines (f.e. symphonic
black metal) which makes the infobox look crammed and cluttered.
  • Last but not least: Most metal band infoboxes feature line breaks, most media infoboxes feature line breaks (actor, tv shows, etc.).

What can I do? These users are not willing to compromise on this matter, and discussions have led to nothing. Please help! 167.202.222.228 (talk) 12:11, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Could we have a link to the discussions that have taken place? J Milburn (talk) 19:12, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

It would cause more harm than good changing the longer metal genres just so that they look better in the infobox. Also, your suggestion that Death Metal should be written without a capital is ridiculous. It's like a christian person writing God without a capital G. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theedgeofthesand14 (talkcontribs) 14:38, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Erm, no. Death metal is not a proper noun, it should be formatted just like any other noun phrase. 'Death' should be capitalised if it is at the start of a sentence, but, if it isn't, it shouldn't. And I don't think 167... is suggesting that we shorten the metal genres, [s]he is just saying that we have to take the fact they are very long into consideration. Strapping Young Lad peer review

Hi guys! Just wanted to let you know, Strapping Young Lad is currently at peer review. I'm hoping to bring it up to FA level. Gocsa (talk) 19:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, it's already on our peer review page. I'll offer a review myself tomorrow. J Milburn (talk) 23:32, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Folk metal peer review

I wasn't aware that WikiProject Metal has its own peer review thing. I had already listed Folk metal under the main Peer review list but if anyone wish to contribute towards reviewing the article, by all means do so. Someone has already made quite a big change in the layout of the article. --Bardin (talk) 08:24, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

The idea is that you list it under both. I'll go and add it to ours now. J Milburn (talk) 09:55, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I see. Thanks for that. --Bardin (talk) 11:13, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Metal: Articles of unclear notability

Hello,

there are currently 40 articles in the scope of this project which are tagged with notability concerns. I have listed them here. (Note: this listing is based on a database snapshot of 12 March 2008 and may be slightly outdated.)

I would encourage members of this project to have a look at these articles, and see whether independent sources can be added, whether the articles can be merged into an article of larger scope, or possibly be deleted. Any help in cleaning up this backlog is appreciated. For further information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Notability.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the Notability project page or on my personal talk page. (I'm not watching this page however.) Thanks! --B. Wolterding (talk) 15:47, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I'll have a look through these at some point; probably tonight. J Milburn (talk) 16:03, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
