[edit] Wikipedia:State route naming conventions poll/Part2

Your state is invited to participate in discussions for its highway naming convention. Please feel free to participate in this discussion. If you already have a convention that follows the State Name Type xx designation, it is possible to request an exemption as well. Thanks! --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 00:25, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Assessment

This project needs a WikiProject template for the purposes of assessment. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 19:41, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 22:47, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template?

Stop me if I'm stepping on toes -- I'm new here. I'd like to help and to join this project, if that's OK. There doesn't seem to be a Mass. highways template for the actual page text; if you'd like, I wouldn't mind crafting one (I like the Illinois page) and starting to fill out the Central Mass. routes, the ones I'm most familiar with. Wiki Wistah 22:21, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

It is okay, anyone can join. The problem is that the creator of this project left, and this is currently inactive, but there's a lot missing from the project page. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 00:08, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't see a problem with you creating a template, if no one else minds. The Illinois template looks fine to me.--PRoy1956 00:06, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 16:02, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What can I do?

I am new to the whole Wikipedia experience, but have found that I enjoy it.(Maybe I should be a copy editor when I grow up?) It seems as if this project is at a standstill. Not being sure about how these projects should work, I am not sure what should be done. Looking at other projects, I see many have to do lists, should we come up with one for this project? --PRoy1956 04:45, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Sure... well in reality we need a new leader since the current one left... that's why this project's been dead lately. (And I'd help but I simply don't have the time... ) --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 23:46, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
I could help out here if desired... I've gained a reputation for reviving dead projects lately (PA, NH, even my own dead one in VT...). --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 23:56, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Sure... this has probably been the most inactive of all of the projects. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 00:00, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

I took the liberty of adding a scope section, a list of roads to include a task section and project section. I tried to make it similar to the other state road projects. Regarding updating the list of roads,in looking at some of the numbered routes listed I think some of these numbers do not exist. i will research this when I have time. Please feel free to add anything that you feel may be needed. --PRoy1956 02:41, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

That's a good start. What we need now is an article structure - something like that on WP:NYSR would probably work. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 03:13, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Added structure, feel free to add, change, delete or otherwise improve.--PRoy1956 00:23, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

I completely redid the whole project page, using Rschen's template. It now has everything a WikiProject page should have, but there are some things, such as a userbox and some templates, that need to be created. V60 VTalk - VDemolitions 03:12, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

I have compiled a list of all existing pages which need infoboxes and will begin adding these as soon as possible. I will post this list on my talk page.--PRoy1956 16:31, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MA highways on Cape Cod

I have written some of the articles (some originally stubs) for many of the MA numbered highways on Cape Cod, since that is where I'm originally from (I grew up in Yarmouth). Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions about my contributions, or if there's something I added that needs to fit the format of the general project. Thanks! -- J

[edit] Route 44A

Does anybody have new information regarding the existence of Route 44A? The latest version of the Highway data layer from MassGIS still does not include 44A. Is there confirmation from somewhere else that the 44A designation no longer exists? If that is the case, we should redirect 44A to U.S. Route 44. --Polaron | Talk 19:50, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Route pages added

Hey all ... I've added the following MA Route pages, following the format I found for Massachusetts Route 122:

A talk page with the relevant WikiProject banner has also been created for all pages above. Each page is currently listed as a stub page and is indicated as such in the banner.

Also, I have noticed that there is not consistency between all Massachusetts Route pages. Inconsistencies include:

  • Listing of all route intersections
  • Inclusion of masr box at bottom of page (likely unnecessary)
  • Inclusion of images for all routes
  • Image size variations (20px v 25px)
  • TOC variances

I propose that a small task force work together to revise all the Massachusetts route pages to conform to a single standard as proposed by this project. If necessary, a "sub-project" could be created. Any interest? --CPAScott 15:03, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

I'd be willing to help out with putting basic infoboxes and removing the masr box. --Polaron | Talk 18:00, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
Please make sure the shields in the infobox are 20px. Wide shields should be 25px.  V60 VTalk · VDemolitions · VRoads 02:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Massachusetts Route 101

Massachusetts Route 101 and Route 101 (Massachusetts) both redirect to US Route 44. There is, however, a state route 101 in Ashburnham. This needs to be fixed, but I'm not sure how to undo a redirection. -- Tckma 18:45, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

That was my fault. I didn't realize that there was a new 101. The simplest fix would be to create a stub article for current 101. Otherwise we can do have an admin delete the redirects. --Polaron | Talk 18:51, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Maps

I notice that for some of the longer state highways (for example, 2 and 9), there have been maps added to the info box. How would I go about creating one of these and adding it to the info box (perhaps this should go into a kind of "WP:MASH FAQ." -- Tckma 20:11, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

The maps currently in use do not comply with MTF guidelines. To create maps, you need GIS data and a GIS application. I can assure you that creating maps is not very easy to do. V60 干什么? · 喝掉的酒 · 20:50, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
GIS data is available at MassGIS. The "Major Roads only" shapefile (9 MB) is sufficient for displaying state highways only. You would need the bigger file if you want to display local roads. Town line shape files are available here. With a GIS viewer, it is relatively easy to create maps by simply selecting the appropriate routes. If you want the maps to be "compliant", it might be better to request one at WP:USRD/MTF. --Polaron | Talk 22:23, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] State Route Shield Graphics

Looks like the state route shields are screwed up again. On List of numbered routes in Massachusetts, for example, 117, 140, and a number of roads in the 30-39 series appear to be missing shields (but just have blank squares linking to the large shield graphic). I don't remember what we did to fix this last time.

Tckma 16:56, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Go to the image page on Commons and purge the image. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 18:43, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

I had a similar problem on MA_Route_53 in the Infobox. I finally read this post and tried the purge for the Commons image - more than once over a few hours - and that did not work. Then I added the marker_image tag and it still would only display a transparent box where the shield should be, with a link to the Commons image. Finally I tried changing the size to 120px, which worked. However, that was too large to match other shields, so I retried with 71px and now the image displays correctly, albeit a pixel larger than others in Infoboxes.

Below is at 70px:

and at 71px:

Sswonk 22:01, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, you have to go to the file at Wikimedia Commons (click on the image AGAIN after it loads up) and THEN purge. If you're in the right place to purge, the URL will say upload.wikipedia.org where it normally says en.wikipedia.org -- Tckma 19:38, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Can someone with more knowledge of Wikipedia than I create a script to do the commons purge of route shields automatically (or at least, when someone tells it to)? I tend to have the missing route shields problem a lot. --Tckma 13:14, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TfD nomination of All USRD Clean-up Templates

All of the USRD Clean-up Templates have been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. master sonT - C 16:48, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect change?

WP:MASH redirects here. I run WP:M*A*S*H, the M*A*S*H franchise WikiProject, and I was wondering if we could have that redirect, seeing as the film was named "MASH." Basketball110 Go Longhorns! 20:29, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
