  • I can see the purpose in having a project working on articles relating to Iraq, but why limit the project to only articles relating to Iraq since the war started? Many of those same articles will clearly have content related to pre-war Iraq as well. Also, so far as I can tell, there is no project specifically dealing with Iraq as a whole. [edit] Hood event GA sweeps review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the requirements of the GA criteria. I'm specifically going over all of the "Conflicts, battles and military exercises" articles. I have recently reviewed Hood event and have determined that it is in very good shape but need some assistance to remain a GA. I have put the article on hold for seven days until the issues on the talk page of the article are addressed. I wanted to mention it here so that members of the project, if interested, could assist in improving the article and help it to remain a GA. It currently has a few problems concerning the citation templates & needs only a few more inline citations. Additionally, I will be leaving messages on other WikiProjects and editors affiliated with the page to increase the number of participants assisting in the workload.

If you have any questions about what I've said here, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. All of the Iraqi diaspora pages appear to have been written by the same person as a lot of the same mistakes are repeated. "Descent" indicates motion. The act of going down. "Decent" means adequate. 'There' indicates a location. "My shoes are over there". 'Their' indicates posession. "Their shoes are over there." 'They're' is a contraction of They + are. "They're going over there to get their shoes."

This project needs some work to improve it!!! In its current state, it is just sort of a mess. An ad rem response will hopefully correct this growing problem. I will start off with the project page, improve it, and work my way round the articles involved.
People, you gotta help me with this one! I think we can make this one of the finest projects on WP, but cooperation and collaboration will be vital. I am kindda planning to do something like Wikipedia:WikiProject France, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Israel, perhaps this Wikipedia:WikiProject_Germany or Wikipedia:WikiProject_United_States, maybe?
The Portal:Iraq needs some work too.
If you think I should not do this, stop me now!

Do not Ignore Iraq's History, The Ancent Mesopotamia is Iraq's History. if you ask any Persian what is the History of Tajikistan, the Answer is Persia, then ask him what is the History of Iraq. Nothing, We just a modern day country. Would there be any way, or would it even be acceptable, to place the takbir in the white section of the ribbon, maybe vertically? That would I think clearly indicate that it is Iraqi. John Carter (talk) 16:05, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
hmm, interesting proposals. As for changing the star's colour to green, it will be the most hideous thing you will ever see... believe me, I tried that. The colours will not simply match. The blue colour was chosen because it sits well with the blue template, please refer to the WikiProject page. Adding "takbir" (I am guessing it is the Arabic words on the flag) might not go well with all members. If my Arabic serves me well, the text is religious and some people will blank my user page for making it vertical or whatever. I will ask the guys at WikiProject Islam. By the way, it is SVG, so anyone with Inkscape can actually edit it.

Amigo!! Using Adobe Photoshop CS3 , you can add the stars , change the large star's colour ....you don't have to choose the horizontal flag. If you cannot use the Photoshop i can make the changes you want with the vertical flag.

Again, this is SVG, this means it is scalable vector graphics... not bitmap and does not depend on pixels but rather on anchor points... what that means is photoshop can not be used to edit this image but rather illustrator. I personally use Inkscape.

User:Dbachmann has proposed to limit the scope of the WikiProject Iraq to include only articles related to the time period from 1919 to the modern era as well as archaeological sites, which will exclude Iraq articles that are tagged with daughter, or separate projects (exempli gratia; Wikipedia:WikiProject Ancient Near East ).

auawise doesn't reflect my "proposal" accurately. Please see here. My points are:

  • article talkpages aren't the "property" of a given WikiProject. Whether a given tag is appropriate is a question of case-by-case consensus, to be decided not by a certain Wikiproject, but by the people involved in writing the article in question. My beef is with "territorial" driveby-tagging adding template clutter all over Wikipedia, by people who are not involved in writing the articles they tag at all.
  • Wikiproject tags are appropriate as long as there is no daughter project with a more narrow scope. As such, tagging articles related to the history of Iraq with the "Iraq" template will be appropriate for times as far back as 650 CE until there is a dedicated "Islamic Caliphates" Wikiproject. Even articles with a scope as far back as 600 BCE will be appropriate, until there is a dedicated "Achaemenid Empire" project or similar. For times predating 600 BCE, use the Ancient Near East tag. Best practice will depend pragmatically on what active projects there actually are. dab (𒁳) 09:51, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
It seems that dab has ignored the fact that no one owns an article, and as such no one has the right to have the final say on which project that article belongs to. If members of the Iraq WikiProject would like to make say, Gilgamesh, within their scope and would consequently like to improve it, why on God's green earth would you object to that?...

to Dbachmann, It's about Iraq and Iraq's History, Obviously when mentioning Iraq's history I mean Mesopotamia. The Persian Period can be added to the WP Iran, (btw, just an additional info, yes, They conquered and ruled Mesopotamia for centuries. but that doesn't mean there were no original people of Mesopotamia in that time. There was Assyria, Babylonian,... etc even Arab lived during the rule of the Persian Empires) again, my point is, I'm with mentioning "before and after" the Persian periods to Iraq's history. I already explained that Arab used the word "Iraq" to the land between the 2 Rivers; in matter of fact people still call as Bilad Al-Rafiden (the Land between the 2 Rivers) Instead of Iraq. The voting is not there to decide whether Iraq has a history or not, it certainly does. People in Mesopotamia were writing poetry before before mud houses were built in Rome. The point of the voting -which I will cancel soon if it seems no one is interested in voting- is to determine whether WikiProject Iraq has such articles about ancient civilisations within its scope.

Just an example, about Babylon, You think it's just vanished? No it's not, their places are still exist, the ruins are still exist and the research of National Geographic Magazine says that the Recent DNA (Y chromosome) studies conducted by the National Geographic Magazine on the bones of ancient Babylonians and living people from Babil have shown that the modern peoples carry the same ancient Babylonian genetic material….
what if Babylon got the independence let's say for example in 2100? Dose they have a history? are they a new state too? No, they have a History, they have a great History. but why Dbachmann doesn't accept Babylon as part of Iraq? what he is waiting for? an Independence? Imagine they will never get the independent? are they forgotten? They are part of Iraq and they prude of it, you cant ignore them you cant ignore their History, saying Iraq doesn’t has a History is wrong and you will be prejudice.   • There is absolutely no point in excluding articles related to pre-Islamic Mesopotamia or pre-1919 modern Iraq/Mesopotamia from the scope of Iraq WP.Unless some one is trying to raise a new conflict over Iraq related articles here. What’s the point of having a wiki project? The answer is to improve the quality of this encyclopaedia (Wikipedia). Therefore, there is no harm done to articles that fall into the scope of 1 to 10000 wikiprojects. Every article related to Iraq/Mesopotamia and its history must be included, end of the story! [edit] JavaScript for tagging

I do not pretend to have even the slightest possible knowledge of JavaScript, but I have put together a little simple script to help people who tag articles with WikiPorject Iraq to do it a lot faster. The script will place the {{Iraq}} tag at the beginning of the talkpage, then put an appropriate edit summary, then save. The script can be used when one is in the edit mode of an article's talk page. To get the script:

  1. Copy the text below and paste it into the bottom of your monobook.js file:
    importScript('User:auawise/tag.js');
  2. Save the new monobook.js page, and
  3. Completely refresh your browser by bypassing your cache (Firefox: Control-Shift-R / Firefox Mac: Command-Shift-R / Explorer: Control-F5)
  4. Done!

I am constantly learning new stuff and will introduce new changes once I am done with them. I was inspired by Mussav to write this simple script.

Well, I have been doing a bit of working on it to get it into a better shape.... Anyway, you will notice that there is a little tab at the top next to "watch" that has the letter "i". Click on it while you are editing an article, it will automatically insert the tag, put the edit summary and save. New script

I wrote a new script, this one is way better and will you place the importance, class and if the article needs attention...useful for the WikiProject table. Here is what to do, follow all the steps above, however, copy the below instead to your monobook.js file:

I just tried them both, and they both worked on Firefox, but not on Internet explorer.
The first one works fine on both browsers, the second one works only on Firefox. To be honest with you, the reason is that I use the morebits library parts which appear to function only on Firefox. I am sorry for this, The second script is not only faster, but also offers a range of options (you can tell it the importance of the article, and its rating)...
Anyway, if you want to change any setting in any script you use, please tell me so that I can do it for you, for example if you want to change the edit summary.

[edit] Baghdad stub/Category

A new stub type {{Baghdad-stub}} was created along with its own category. The stub might be deleted if a number of 60 articles tagged with it is not achieved. Here is part of user Grutness message:
"As to the stubs themselves, given that your WikiProject is for Iraq as a whole, not "Wikiproject Baghdad", the threshold level for a separate category is 60 stubs. So if you can find 60 stubs on Baghdad, then chances are the category will be kept (note - changing a plain iraq-stub to baghdad-stub is fine on articles, but if they're something like iraq-geo-stub then add baghdad-stub to it as a separate template). If you can't reach 60, then it's likely the template will be kept but upmerged (i.e., it'll lead back into the main). So for now, it's simply a case of trying to find Baghdad stubs."
Thus if you come across an article which can be listed as a Baghdad stub, please do so...Otherwise it will be deleted. Its presence is important since it is Iraq's capital and should have its own stub.
A barnstar will be given to those who help in preserving it.

I have changed the population of Basra (City) from 2.6 to 1.7 million to make it consistant with the box on the site - but without any firm basis - just internal consistancy and some other bt old sources indicate far lower figures than 2.6mil . Does anyone know any authoritative sources for populations of Basra/Mosul/Irbil as our entries are being used by others and I am not sure of how reliable they are. 'Current Featured Articles' and 'Good articles' toolbars go too far across the screen and need correcting (I am using a Firefox browser - if that makes a difference) [[User:Cs1kh]] (talk) 09:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC) I have moved the 'Current Featured articles' & 'Good Articles' toolbars down, to fix this problem on Firefox. The space can eventually be filled up with relevant text.

I have noticed that the problem may not occur on Internet Explorer, and so if my changes have caused a problem on Internet Explorer, Just undo my changes. It was a genuine effort to fix 2 annoying toolbars that cover the 'Iraq Articles' table [[User:Cs1kh]] (talk) 16:38, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback!
