  • I can see the purpose in having a project working on articles relating to Iraq, but why limit the project to only articles relating to Iraq since the war started? Many of those same articles will clearly have content related to pre-war Iraq as well. Also, so far as I can tell, there is no project specifically dealing with Iraq as a whole. John Carter 16:52, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
I agree with John Carter. I have been thinking of proposing the creation of a WikiProject Iraq. Iraq War-related articles would obviously be included. Cattus 20:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
There is now a Wikipedia:WikiProject Iraq. Chris 16:07, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merger

Will some of you comment on my merger proposal for: 1920 Revolution Brigade, Iraqi National Islamic Resistance, and Islamic Resistance Movement (Iraq)? Palm_Dogg 18:29, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bilateral relations discussion

I would like to invite you all to participate in a discussion at this thread regarding bilateral relations between two countries. All articles related to foreign relations between countries are now under the scope of WikiProject Foreign relations, a newly created project. We hope that the discussion will result in a more clean and organized way of explaining such relationships. Thank you. Ed ¿Cómo estás? 18:14, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hood event GA sweeps review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the requirements of the GA criteria. I'm specifically going over all of the "Conflicts, battles and military exercises" articles. I have recently reviewed Hood event and have determined that it is in very good shape but need some assistance to remain a GA. I have put the article on hold for seven days until the issues on the talk page of the article are addressed. I wanted to mention it here so that members of the project, if interested, could assist in improving the article and help it to remain a GA. It currently has a few problems concerning the citation templates & needs only a few more inline citations. Additionally, I will be leaving messages on other WikiProjects and editors affiliated with the page to increase the number of participants assisting in the workload.

If you have any questions about what I've said here, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I hope members here assist in addressing the issues within the article, and keep up the good work in improving articles on Wikipedia! --Nehrams2020 02:45, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Nehrams for letting us know. I'll have a look at the article altough I don't think that I familiar with that particular issue--Aziz1005 02:32, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] grammar

All of the Iraqi diaspora pages appear to have been written by the same person as a lot of the same mistakes are repeated. "Descent" indicates motion. The act of going down. "Decent" means adequate. 'There' indicates a location. "My shoes are over there". 'Their' indicates posession. "Their shoes are over there." 'They're' is a contraction of They + are. "They're going over there to get their shoes."

[edit] Talk:Civil war in Iraq#Consider seeking more opinions

A proposal to move "Civil war in Iraq" to "Sectarian violence in Iraq" is inconclusive after five days. It has been proposed that outside opinions should be sought in order to further the discussion. You are welcome to comment here. Thank you.--victor falk 11:15, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Execution of Saddam Hussein -> FA

I've got a project proposal to help get Execution of Saddam Hussein to featured status by the one year anniversary of the article's creation. You can read the details here. Any help, especially from WikiProject Iraq members would be greatly appreciated! ~ UBeR (talk) 06:46, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion discussion: diaspora /refugees

Would anyone with more knowledge of all things Iraqi care to comment on the current proposal to delete or merge the substubs dealing with numerically tiny Iraqi diaspora/refugee populations (e.g. in Bulgaria and Ireland)? Go to Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Iraqi_Armenian. --Paularblaster (talk) 00:43, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Civil war in Iraq#Delete Entire Article, Outdated, Civil War In Iraq

A comment has been made that the article Civil war in Iraq has not been updated with developments since 2007. Since I lack knowledge in this area, could someone have a quick skim over the article and add any important developments as necessary? Many thanks. haz (talk) 19:35, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Oh my!

This project needs some work to improve it!!! In its current state, it is just sort of a mess. An ad rem response will hopefully correct this growing problem. I will start off with the project page, improve it, and work my way round the articles involved.
People, you gotta help me with this one! I think we can make this one of the finest projects on WP, but cooperation and collaboration will be vital. I am kindda planning to do something like Wikipedia:WikiProject France, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Israel, perhaps this Wikipedia:WikiProject_Germany or Wikipedia:WikiProject_United_States, maybe?
The Portal:Iraq needs some work too.
If you think I should not do this, stop me now!
Cheers! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 14:50, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

I am wikifying this right now, will create a wiki ad for the project, all in favour say aye!

Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 19:27, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Great job Auawise.I'll try to help although I'm not as active as I use to be in the English Wikipedia. I work mainly on the Arabic wikipedia which needs alot of work. I strongly encourage you to go ahead with your plans to improve Iraq WP. --Aziz1005 (talk) 14:04, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks!
I guess WP.ar needs some dedication too. Well, for the moment, I am going to gradually improve the project, especially its departments. Also, do not you think that more participants are required? I am thinking I will abuse my welcoming committee work to lure new WP user here, should I do that?
Any help, no matter how small it might seem, is appreciated.
P.S. I do not know why am doing this, it is just sad when I found this project to be rather neglected like that.
Cheers!
Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 16:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
You are really wise MR. AuaWise , WIKIprojcet iraq really needs some improvements, in order to accomplish this goal all participants should have some determination . I also beleive that more participants are required. In the mean time i will try to add some articles and minimize the mess.
AYE!

[edit] Ancient Near East + Persian Empire topics

Please be clear on the topic of this project. Avoid tagging pre-Islamic topics as within the scope of the "Iraq" project: There is a separate Wikipedia:WikiProject Ancient Near East for articles dealing with pre-Achaemenid content. Please do only tag topics post-dating the Sassanid period. dab (𒁳) 09:45, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Do not Ignore Iraq's History, The Ancent Mesopotamia is Iraq's History. if you ask any Persian what is the History of Tajikistan, the Answer is Persia, then ask him what is the History of Iraq. Nothing, We just a modern day country. What a prejudice, Iraq is everything, Babylon, Assyria, Sumer, Abbassid... etc. so don't say we are not Mesopotamia. we have the right to Link Mesopotamia's pages to WP Iraq. [edit] Where are the three stars?

[edit] JavaScript for tagging

I do not pretend to have even the slightest possible knowledge of JavaScript, but I have put together a little simple script to help people who tag articles with WikiPorject Iraq to do it a lot faster. The script will place the {{Iraq}} tag at the beginning of the talkpage, then put an appropriate edit summary, then save. The script can be used when one is in the edit mode of an article's talk page. To get the script:

  1. Copy the text below and paste it into the bottom of your monobook.js file:
    importScript('User:auawise/tag.js');

  2. Save the new monobook.js page, and
  3. Completely refresh your browser by bypassing your cache (Firefox: Control-Shift-R / Firefox Mac: Command-Shift-R / Explorer: Control-F5)
  4. Done!

I am constantly learning new stuff and will introduce new changes once I am done with them. I was inspired by Mussav to write this simple script.

Cheers!
Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 15:12, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Auawise, but I didn't understand after placing the tag, I did all the steps, but I didn't notice the change. what is the use of the script? Mussav (talk) 17:54, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, I have been doing a bit of working on it to get it into a better shape.... Anyway, you will notice that there is a little tab at the top next to "watch" that has the letter "i". Click on it while you are editing an article, it will automatically insert the tag, put the edit summary and save. Please bypass your cache, and make sure that you are using Firefox, I do not think it works on IE. Cheers! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 19:36, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I'll try to redo it. :) Mussav (talk) 11:24, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

New script

I wrote a new script, this one is way better and will you place the importance, class and if the article needs attention...useful for the WikiProject table. Here is what to do, follow all the steps above, however, copy the below instead to your monobook.js file:

importScript('User:AzaToth/morebits.js');
importScript('User:auawise/itag.js');

I hope this helps! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 14:02, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

The first one the "I" button worked, But the 2nd one the "iraq" button didn't work, the button appears but when I click on it nothing happens, any Idea? Any way thank you a lot for you great work. :) Mussav (talk) 17:15, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I just tried them both, and they both worked on Firefox, but not on Internet explorer.
The first one works fine on both browsers, the second one works only on Firefox. To be honest with you, the reason is that I use the morebits library parts which appear to function only on Firefox. I am sorry for this, The second script is not only faster, but also offers a range of options (you can tell it the importance of the article, and its rating)...
Anyway, if you want to change any setting in any script you use, please tell me so that I can do it for you, for example if you want to change the edit summary.
Cheers!

[edit] Baghdad stub/Category

A new stub type {{Baghdad-stub}} was created along with its own category. The stub might be deleted if a number of 60 articles tagged with it is not achieved. Here is part of user Grutness message:
"As to the stubs themselves, given that your WikiProject is for Iraq as a whole, not "Wikiproject Baghdad", the threshold level for a separate category is 60 stubs. So if you can find 60 stubs on Baghdad, then chances are the category will be kept (note - changing a plain iraq-stub to baghdad-stub is fine on articles, but if they're something like iraq-geo-stub then add baghdad-stub to it as a separate template). If you can't reach 60, then it's likely the template will be kept but upmerged (i.e., it'll lead back into the main). So for now, it's simply a case of trying to find Baghdad stubs."
Thus if you come across an article which can be listed as a Baghdad stub, please do so...Otherwise it will be deleted. Its presence is important since it is Iraq's capital and should have its own stub.
A barnstar will be given to those who help in preserving it.
Thanks! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 14:03, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I'll try to add this template to Baghdad-related articles --Aziz1005 (talk) 17:26, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Aziz did an excellent job here, and was awarded the barnstar of national merit. However, if you come across more articles that can be added to this category, please add it. Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 11:49, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. yes of course I will:)--Aziz1005 (talk) 19:58, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Iraq Gallery

I have added some images to the photography department here. Please help adding these photos to related articles. --Aziz1005 (talk) 22:25, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Great work indeed. I have added a link to that area in the Iraq sidebar on the Project's page. Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 17:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Iraq War

Does anyone know anything about Portal:Iraq War? I see that the one who created it has ummm...retired but before I mark this as a Portal for deletion it seems like it could be useful if updated and it appears to be fairly well done. I am also leaving this question on the Wikiproject Military History discussion page.--Kumioko (talk) 21:16, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Population of the city of Basra

I have changed the population of Basra (City) from 2.6 to 1.7 million to make it consistant with the box on the site - but without any firm basis - just internal consistancy and some other bt old sources indicate far lower figures than 2.6mil . Does anyone know any authoritative sources for populations of Basra/Mosul/Irbil as our entries are being used by others and I am not sure of how reliable they are. [edit] Sassanid Empire

Sassanid Empire has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here.Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 05:04, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 2 toolbars need correcting

'Current Featured Articles' and 'Good articles' toolbars go too far across the screen and need correcting (I am using a Firefox browser - if that makes a difference) [[User:Cs1kh]] (talk) 09:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC) I have moved the 'Current Featured articles' & 'Good Articles' toolbars down, to fix this problem on Firefox. The space can eventually be filled up with relevant text.

I have noticed that the problem may not occur on Internet Explorer, and so if my changes have caused a problem on Internet Explorer, Just undo my changes. It was a genuine effort to fix 2 annoying toolbars that cover the 'Iraq Articles' table [[User:Cs1kh]] (talk) 16:38, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 21:48, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
