I know I talk about this at work often, but looking through Wikipedia, I was amazed to find there wasn't an article about it, and only a few articles making references about it, and even a Pan Indian Movement to describe a movement across India. [edit] Population history of American indigenous peoples GA Sweeps Review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "World History-Americas" articles. I have reviewed Population history of American indigenous peoples and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. I have left this message at this WikiProject's talk page so that any interested members can assist in helping the article keep its GA status. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left messages on the talk pages of the main contributors of the article along with other WikiProjects. Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix if multiple editors assist in the workload. [edit] band -- definition

Would someone care to start an article for band, in the sense of the unit of government for First Nations in Canada? Band is a dab page but doesn't help. Status Indian, Indian Act, First Nations mention the term, but surely it deserves its own page? I don't have reference material and so can't start the page myself. On the other hand, if a Band (definition of which type) sort of article exists, please could it be linked from other articles and put in relevant categories? It is hopeless to search simply for the word "band" because every musical group has Musical group (band) as their title. Thanks BrainyBabe (talk) 15:46, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Under the dab, there is a link to stub article called Band society, as well as to an article called First Nations Government (Canada), though no such Band article exists for the tribal government political units in United States, also called "Band". Maybe, the best way to go about this is to better word the dab point Band society and under it have sublisting of the governmental units of Canada and the United States, as both are rooted in the concept of Band society. Yes, I should have listed those two articles too. The first is anthropological and the second talks around band without defining it. Does "band" have a legal definition? Can Inuit and Metis also have bands or is its use restricted to First Nations? What about in the US? Is a band council the same as a band? Etc. A new article would be very welcome, and then (in response to your constructive suggestions) it could be linked to and pointed at as you suggest. BrainyBabe (talk) 18:22, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Metis (or as old US treaty calls them "halfblood") did have "band" communities but since the time of Canadian confeneration and the US's Dawes Act, the Metis generally no longer came together as a distinct band, but rather as just part of a larger community that may or may not organize themselves as "band". I have heard of the Inuit, Yupik, Inuvialuit and Inupiat organized into "band" but this may just be the basic anthropological definition and not necessarily a government organizational structure. [edit] New page: Transformation of culture

I created a new page entitled Transformation of culture. It is basically a compilation of work done by a Professor at the University of Arizona College of Law. I created it because when I went to the Globalization page, there was really no place to write about the effects that globalization has had on cultures, particularly indigenous cultures.

Because I am relatively new to this forum, please advise on how I can improve this page and remove the annoying flags that keep appearing. Also, if you go to indigenous peoples you can see that there really isn't a lot of Native voice going into Wikipedia (evidenced by the scant two sentences given to "Indigenous Viewpoints" and the tirade given to "Non-indigenous viewpoints", including a reiteration of the ridiculous theory that non-indigenous were in North America before the Natives arrived.

Hello WP:IPNA Editors! I just wanted to send a update to anyones who interested. I've been working extensively on Sḵwxwú7mesh and Kwakwaka'wakw and related articles. These are things like Potlatch and British Columbia Treaty Process. I will eventually expand to do more work on other neighboring peoples, but it's hard for one person to do all the work, as I'm sure most of you know. Most of what I'm planning to do can be found here. I'm looking for copy editors, reviews, suggestions, and over collaborations on the things I've been working on. If your interested or want to discuss anyting, send me a message.

Skwxwu7mesh has been my main focus as of late. I'm not sure, but it might be one of the most extensive articles written in Canada, although I'd happily be corrected on that because I'm always looking for inspiration to add things. It needs some editing and suggestion for overall structure and writing style, but I've done the best I can do. As noted here, I plan to break it all into a series, as seen on the right sided navbox. There is enough out there for it in terms of sources, but just getting around to writing it is my things. I've shifted now to taking a break and coming back when I can devote more energy to it over all and find others out in the real world to help out. Anyways, have a look anyone. I posted this article to the mainspace a couple days ago, It's one of a few I'm creating in order to expand the insufficient article on Everglades. I have it up at Peer Review and I've nominated it for GA. I tagged it with this project as well as WP:FLORIDA, but I only assessed on behalf of the WP:FL as Start class. Wikipedia might have a short gallery section in the article, but it is not the place for an article that is nothing but a gallery. My suggestion would be to delete the article from Wikipedia, but create this as a category in Commons, then at the main page of the WP:IPNA, create a link to the Common's category page, as it is an interesting grouping of photographs worth noting.
