[edit] Headline text

I read a few articles about Indians states, particularly the section History, and was somewhat dismayed that they dealt so much with names of rulers &c. The articles would be more worth reading if there was more about ordinary people in them (social and economic history, that is). I'm sorry I can't help, I know nothing, that was why I looked.

Cleanse the names of people in each state. There should be some standard. Otherwise some editors use this to pop up their personal agenda. sum

[edit] Andhra Pradesh Template

{{Andhra Pradesh}} is interesting. The same format can be used for other states as well - hence, please help in standardising the template at Template talk:Andhra Pradesh. TIA, --Gurubrahma 16:51, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team cooperation

Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Places WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 18:33, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Himachal map

I have added a rather crude looking map but this is all I had... Couldnt pick anything from any site due to all the restrictions that Wikipedia imposes. Can somebody put a better map please. ramit 18:59, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] References

The two books mentioned in the references section are not really referring to anything. So I am moving them to the talk page for a discussion on where they should be put, if anywhere at all. ramit 18:59, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Delhi vs. National Capital Territory of Delhi

I am quite suprised to know that WikiProject Indian states regards NCT as a State and Delhi as a city. Some quick points:

  1. NCT is not a state. It is a unique administrative area jointly administered by the Union and NCT government.
  2. The metropolis of Delhi lies entirely in NCT. What lies outside NCT are known as satellite towns of Delhi. Please see the difference between a metropolis and agglomeration.
  3. According to the Economic survey of Delhi, 90% of NCT's population is urban (i.e. 90% of the population lives in the city of Delhi).
  4. The 69th ammendment to the Indian constituion says that Delhi's official name now is National Capital Territory of Delhi. The name Delhi itself signifies the NCT. There is no other meaning, officially and practically, of Delhi. So Delhi is nothing but the NCT (same as the case with Washington D.C. and District of Columbia). The articles on both NCT and Delhi will have to merged. As one can clearly notice, most of the content in the National Capital Territory of Delhi article is the same as the Delhi article. --Incman|वार्ता 18:22, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
According to the Manorama Yearbook 2003, the above is incorrect. NCT has the status of a state/UT (ie sublevel division of a country). According to the Yearbook, NCT consists of the census towns of Delhi, New Delhi, Delhi Cantonment and a hundred odd villages. The article on Delhi should cover the area as governed by the Delhi Municipal Corporation. The metropolitan area (NCR) can be covered in another article as done for Mumbai metropolitan area. So you mean to say that the Delhi article should talk about the urban area governed by MCD? Hmm.. that makes sense now. OK.. I will withdraw my merge request. --Incman|वार्ता 14:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject India

The following discussion is copied from WT:INB. Please respond there to keep the discussion centralised.

I think we should retire templates for the various Indian wikiprojects such as {{Wikiproject Indian districts}}, {{Wikiproject Indian cinema}}, {{Wikiproject History of India}} etc. and replace them all with {{WP India}}. It has various advantages over the others.

  • We can rate the articles - the rating counts appear on the WP:IND page as we do so.
  • Each of the above child projects can get exposure as the template can incorporate their names as well.
  • This will guide new people and other interested readers to a centralised project page and help us recruit better for the projects.
  • It will help rejuvenate the WP:IND. It has the lowest no. of members of all these projects.

These are just some thoughts. If there is agreement on this, we can start by replacing the templates on the project pages with the {{WP India}} template. -- Lost(talk) 18:25, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
