[edit] Project Directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:

  • User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory 2,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Philosophy and religion Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Sports Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory/United States, (note: This page will be retitled to more accurately reflect its contents)
  • User:Badbilltucker/History and society directory, and
  • User:Badbilltucker/Science directory

and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now moved the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 13:55, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just a note

I plan to take over this Wikiproject soon. Hopefully in a while it'll be more active. Tennis DyNamiTe (sign in) 21:34, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Take over? That doesn't sound too good. JDtalk 21:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Not in that way, but help organize and jump-start this slow in developing project. Tennis DyNamiTe (sign in) 22:08, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] News

This Wikiproject is now using the WP:1.0 assessments! The assessment page adn instructions can be found here.

Also I have created a welcome template {{Template:WikiProject Idol series-invite}} for inviting people to the project.

Finally, I propose a separate page for any propasals to this project. Thanks! Tennis DyNamiTe (sign here) 22:44, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 16:33, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problems with Idol series

On December 2, 2006, Idol series was marked for deletion (the deletion discussion is here). Although it was kept, one of the concerns was that the article was largely unsourced. In order to forestall another (potentially successful) deletion attempt, I tried to find sources for the statements in the article. Unfortunately, I largely failed -- a lot of it seems like original research. Maybe somebody else can take a shot at it? Otherwise, a lot of it may have to be removed, if not the whole article someday. (For notice's sake, I placed a copy of this at Talk:Idol series.) -- ArglebargleIV 18:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Contestant articles

I have noticed there has been a lot of discussion off-site about what to do about contestant articles. Here is my opinion:

  • Finalists: Create instantly, as they would be at least Mid-importance, even if a stub. (Status quo)
  • Semi-finalists: Generally redirect. However, if a decent article can be made up, let it stand (no Stub-Low articles should be made IMO when there is a place to put them, and they would be Low-importance). An example is Ayla Brown. Usually, but not always, that will be because of notability elsewhere.
  • Others: Redirect; although their name may not appear on the article it leads to, it would be a deterrant to creating articles when not notable, especially at the start of the season (although I do think there should be a section or separate subarticle for notable auditioners, after all, no other shows in most places, especially the US, can claim to have such high numbers of viewers and the mere sight will get them fanclubs and local recognition). Of course, if they are notable elsewhere or pull off a surprise recording contract, then an article should be made.

I have a question about David Archuleta (singer)'s article (season 7, top 24). He was a finalist in Star Search in 2003. His article was just changed to a redirect to show. Is that not noticable enough to qualify for own article? It had been linked to on the Star Search page for some time, and now that link redirects to Idol... Had no content, but was linked... The redirect just seems wrong for it to me. Jjaazz (talk) 03:28, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question on American_Idol_Scoreboards

I'm seeking input on how to handle this article. The user has pasted it's contents into the season 1, 2, 3 and 4 articles. To me, it's just a major eyesore. But I want to find out what you all think we should do with the information, because it is useful info. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 05:48, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I think that they aren't really necessary in the season summary articles as we have the Bottom 3 charts/elimination tables. I don't have a problem with it being its own article/list. By the way, why is it called the American Idol scoreboard? Tennis DyNamiTe 23:55, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Heck if I know. :) --WoohookittyWoohoo! 04:49, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AFDs

I don't know if this project is still active, but if anyone's interested, the following articles are up for deletion:

[edit] Guideline

Many Idol articles have been put up for AFD in history and I think we need to have a guideline to clarify what articles belong on wikipedia and which ones should be deleted. Tennis Dynamite 17:01, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reality TV star noteability guidelines

Hello, I've just created a seperate page proposing guidlines for noteability of Reality TV contestants and if they should have their own articles. I did this due to the mass number of articles being created and deleted on these subjects in recent months, and confusion among editors if they are in fact noteable or not. You can read this here. All edits and comments on the talk page are welcome. Thanks, Dalejenkins | 18:25, 23 August 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Random tidying

Tidied up some things, mostly fixing capitalization of categories that affected assessment (it's "Idol series" not "Idol Series"). Now the assessment bot counts importance ratings in its statistics as well. Tweaked the project banner to display the importance rating (amazed I didn't break the thing completely). Hunted down every Idol template I could find and put it under the templates section. Also made a userbox, so members can feel fancy being part of the club. =D MissMJ (talk) 22:23, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Judges comments sections

Some of the articles have now been filled in with various judges comments. These seem completely trashy and unhelpful except for those who are already very familiar with the contestants. I they all should go unless an outside news media is showing they are somehow extra noteworthy. 71.139.19.188 (talk) 17:22, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
