[edit] Boom, Bay, Festivals

I'm planning on going to the Boom on the Bay and taking photographs, but seriously, we need to write some articles on festivals. Celebrate Erie is a big one. At the minimum, we need to create List of Festivals in Erie, PA.--trey 20:41, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimedia Pennsylvania

Hello there!

We are now forming the first local Wikimedia Chapter in the United States: Wikimedia Pennsylvania. Our goals are to perform outreach and fundraising activities on behalf of the various Wikimedia projects. If you're interested in being a part of the chapter, or just want to know more, you can:

[edit] Banner change proposal

I saw the wikiproject banner template at WP:FBI and liked it so I made an WP:ERIE version. I wouldn't mind some other opinions on it or if you could try my version out and see if there are any bugs in design. Use this code →{{User:Dtbohrer/Sandbox}}. It should work just like the current banner. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 17:29, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Looks fine.—treyomg he's back 22:03, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Its been implemented. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 23:27, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Next Stop?

What shall our next project/article to improve be? Also, I'd like to see an article on the Bayfront Connector.—treyomg he's back 22:03, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

I'd like to see a Bayfront Connector article or even a Boston Store article, personally I'm trying to get Presque Isle State Park to GA status. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 22:46, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I think I am going to start Portal:Erietreyomg he's back 00:13, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Just let us make sure that it won't end up like Portal:Lancaster, Pennsylvania, out-dated and abandoned. Also, if you don't mind, I'm going to move it to Portal:Erie, Pennsylvania. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 00:49, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Me likes Portal:Erie better. I dont think it will ever end up like Portal Lancaster, Pennsyvania, unless we both die or something. —treyomg he's back 02:35, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Hopefully not. Do you think there is a record for the time it took to create a portal? Because I think it's been broken.
--Dtbohrertalkcontribs 02:38, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
lol. Next stop WP:FP. :P —treyomg he's back 02:42, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cider Mill

Wanted to see if anyone else feels Furhman's is notable enough for an article, and whether anyone wants to collaborate on writing one. This may be just a bout of recentism though. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 17:21, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Featured Article Candidate

Presque Isle State Park in Erie County is the most visited state park in Pennsylvania, and is a Featured Article Candidate. It is labeled with the WikiProject Erie tag. If you want to weigh in on the nomination, it is here Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Presque Isle State Park. Thanks for any feedback! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:05, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Henry B. Vincent

The way that the Erie Phil and Erie Playhouse articles are laid out, there isn't much opportunity to mention the fact that Henry B. Vincent got the Playhouse running before WWI and resurrected the Phil in 1920. Someone might want to write an article about him. Here's the text of the brief bio on Vincent contained in the 1993 "Erie Philharmonic 80th Anniversary" souvenir program, in case someone wants to run with it.

"Henry B. Vincent (1920-1926) Member of a prominent Erie family, he graduated from Oberlin Conservatory and continued his musical studies abroad. For 20 years he served as organist at the Chautauqua Institution. Among his composing credits were an oratorio, opera and operetta. Locally Vincent established the Erie Playhouse, formed and conducted the Erie Choral Society, and directed the Community Opera Company. He helped revive the Symphony in 1920 and was its conductor for six years."

The brochure contains photos and brief biographies of each conductor in a two-page spread called Podium Profiles. The brochure also outlines the history of the Phil in a three-page article called Celebrating the Past. I bought the brochure at a local used book store and will try to update the history, but the bios are too brief to permit individual bio articles in Wiki with their limited details. Maybe someone else could take on the conductor bios for the earliest ones, probably starting with Vincent? --Pat (talk) 04:36, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

If Vincent is not currently living maybe the library would have his obiturary on record (that might provide some more info). --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 03:06, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

An Erie Playhouse history online says Vincent died unexpectedly in 1941, so I wonder if there would be a newspaper obituary at Blasco from that early date? The federal censuses for 1910 and 1930 show him as a divorcee living in the City of Erie as a boarder at 236 East 10th Street, in 1910 as a piano teacher and in 1930 as director of the Playhouse. He was born about 1873 in Colorado, son of Bethel (Bethuel) and Minerva E Vincent; they were born in Aug 1834 in Alabama (to Pennsylvania parents) and Dec 1835 in Illinois (to Tennessee parents), resp. Bethel was a minister in Philadelphia when Harry was 7 in the 1880 census. His parents had moved to Greely, Colorado (Weld Co) by the time of the 1900 census; Bethel was still a minister. I couldn't find Henry's census records for 1900 or 1920. The Erie Phil bio says he studied abroad; maybe that's why? --Pat (talk) 04:17, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
