[edit] Corps formatting?
While doing some cleanup on assorted corps articles, I started thinking about how uniform the presentation from articles should be. I think it's a good thing to have some consistency, get the essential facts up front immediately, and say why the corps is important in the first paragraph. Here's a draft of what the article standard could be:
The Corps Name Drum and Bugle Corps are a Division I drum and bugle corps based in City, State and founded in XXXX, and are a member corps of Drum Corps International. (The) Corps name (), are corps claim to fame. , .
If the corps has ever placed in the top three:
(The) Corps name were DCI Champions X times, in XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. In addition, they have placed second in finals X times (XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX) and third X times (XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX).
If not, but they made finals:
(The) Corps name have made DCI Finals X times. Their highest finish is Xth place in XXXX.
If not in finals:
(The) Corps name had its highest finish in XXXX (with a program entitled/music of)
Thoughts or comments? I'm currently putting together corps who don't have pages with something like this. Mr Bound 14:51, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
how about a list of the winners.IE: cadets last year also maybe winners of each caption, percussion visual, gaurd(aux)
DCI Division I World Champions seems to be what you're looking for. Mr Bound 01:11, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Corps Page titles
Any particular reason all the corps page titles include Drum and Bugle Corps? Personally I'd rather see Carolina Crown to Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, but I'd like to know what other user's thoughts are before going around making moves. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 03:10, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- Well, going off what most of the corps webpages are, the titles/logos for those sites use "drum and bugle corps" with some consistency [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]. Granted, there are those that don't [8] [9] [10], and Crossmen/Cadets, but it seems that the corps tend to identify the drum and bugle corps organizations in a fashion similar to the article titles. All four counterexample pages seem to stress the multiple-program nature of those groups. The status quo is a page name with "Drum and Bugle Corps", then a redirect of some kind for the shorter name, which works, although the original page naming can get a little clunky. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else wants to weigh in. Mr Bound 03:29, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- Personally I think the Drum and Bugle corps part is kind of implicit, and weighs down the article title a bit much, if I'm going to talk about another corps in some other article, I'm going to want to link to Carolina Crown, or the Crossmen, or the Bluecoats, and not have to type out the full corps title. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 04:58, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- And they work, though through redirects. I see your point quite clearly now. Hm. Uniform renaming poses a problem in select cases such as the Blue Devils and The Cadets, where there are aleady disambiguations in effect. What do we call those pages? Blue Devils (drum and bugle corps), Blue Devils (drum corps), something else? At present I agree that moving the pages is probably in order, I'd like to iron out the specifics first and get some feedback from you. I have a feeling we can't expect too many others to join in on this issue. Mr Bound 05:22, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm in favor of keeping "____ Drum and Bugle Corps" as the article title. I'm positive that every corps recognizes that tag on the end of their name. When Dave Gibbs is making phone calls, he won't say, "Hello, this is Dave Gibbs with the Blue Devils," or else people are going to say, "What? The basketball team?". Of course they're still the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. And as Mr Bound said, wikilinking to the shorter title works fine (aside from names used by other groups like the said Blue Devils, in that case, use Blue Devils).Ross Uber - Talk - Contributions - 06:53, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- I think with Blue Devils, and any cases where disambiguation is needed, it's fine to have the "Drum and Bugle Corps" appelation, or (drum and bugle corps) works equally as well. However we're not getting a whole lot of discussion on this point, so unless a clear consensus to re-do it emerges, I'm not going to worry about it. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 19:56, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Repertoire
I've recently created a table with the Repertoire for Carolina Crown, and I'm thinking that format might work well for other corps articles as well. I'm also thinking about creating some kind of table for the Div I World Champions page, and maybe tables for Finals placement for Div I at some point. I just wanted to point the table out to anyone else who might want to use it for other corps pages. One of my current projects is going through and trying to fill in the red links on Crown's repertoire listing (just created English Dances, so what like, 28 to go? Yay). Cheers. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 19:59, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Blast!
I decided to be bold when I was rewriting the article on Blast! and I both added it to Category:Drum Corps and placed a Drum Corps Wikiproject tag on its talk page. My rationale is that while Blast! is a step away from drum corps, it is a well-recognized source of publicity for the activity and something directly descended from a major competitor. Letting everyone know. Mr Bound 21:34, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah go for it. I think I noticed the other day we were missing a Blast! article, glad you added it. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 02:23, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Random Cleanup
I've just started as a registered user on Wiki after doing some previous work as an anonymous, and one of the first things I want to do is help with Drum Corps.
I was wondering as to how much of the corps' reps we should include on each page - I mean, a link to corpsreps.com would be sufficient. Some pages, like Madison Scouts, list what they call "notable" seasons, while the Santa Clara Vanguard have championship seasons.
What do y'all think?
Letoofdune 06:20, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
The problem with repertoires is that you can go all or nothing and it's simple (and either minimalistic or rather time consuming to write out) but if you try and do "notable seasons" people have to try and agree what seasons are notable. There's not much of a benchmark for what seasons are notable (the Classic Countdown might be the closest yet?). I'd like to hear further input.
[edit] Horns
Should the instruments of drum corps be added to the category, i.e., baritone horn, marimba, etc? I'd like to get some input. Mr Bound 21:33, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
not quite ot, but I've been updating and fixing instrument links from within various dbandc pages, adding pics, etc.--C.lettinga 04:38, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Articles for the Wikipedia 1.0 project
Hi, I'm a member of the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing using these criteria, and we are looking for A-Class and good B-Class articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Can you recommend any suitable articles on drum corps? Featured articles would also be great. Please post your suggestions here. Cheers!--Shanel 19:41, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- The problem with the main drum corps articles drum and bugle corps (modern) and drum and bugle corps (classic) is that they still need reworking to remove old, engrained POV disputes and redundant content. I'd be hesitant to say any of the DCI articles is truly top-quality work, except for maybe the Madison Scouts article. Mr Bound 19:48, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm attempting to clean up the modern article; I'm about halfway done. My ultimate goal is to have it be worthy of featured-article status. However, I don't know how long that might take; cleaning it up involves cleaning up several associated articles as well. It's also unfortunate that it is separated so much from the classic article. Both those articles are really needed in tandem for truly top-quality coverage of the activity. — Lazytiger 21:49, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick response. If possible, could you let me know when you are finished cleaning them up?--Shanel 18:32, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- Will do. Is there any timetable for "Version 1.0"? I hope to work on the drum corps article(s) more in the coming weeks. — Lazytiger 20:50, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- As far as I know, there isn't a specific timetable, so take as much time as you want. :)--Shanel 05:05, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Getting more corps pages
I think we should reach out to the drum corps community and have current or past corps members begin pages on the corp(s) they marched for. I'm sure there would be many people willing to at least supply information for a page, and then for others to neaten it up. Faramirtook 01:41, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] DrumCorpsInfoBox
I am creating a stub tonight for the Reading Buccaneers. Is there any chance that the definition of "titles" in the DrumCorpsInfoBox can be modified to take out the word DCI? And then inside the description, it could list which organization awarded the title. This would be helpful for American Legion and VFW titles as well. --JimBurnell 03:57, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Project Directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory 2,
- User:Badbilltucker/Philosophy and religion Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Sports Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory,
- User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory/United States, (note: This page will be retitled to more accurately reflect its contents)
- User:Badbilltucker/History and society directory, and
- User:Badbilltucker/Science directory
and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:41, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now put the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 00:27, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Infobox template created for drum corps organizations, not corps
If you guys didn't mind, I felt like it would look more professional for the DCI, DCA, DCUK, etc. articles to have infobox templates about the league/organization. It's not much, and if you want to improve it, the page is at Template: Infobox drum corps
So far I've completed the infoboxes for DCI, DCA, and DCUK. I'll do DCE pretty soon. I'm a rather new user, so I'm open for any ideas or suggestions.
[edit] this project/drumcorpswiki?
hi. what's the connection between this wikiproject and drumcorpswiki? Seems like dcwiki has some articles which are superior to those here...could one contact contributers to help beef up this project?--C.lettinga 04:05, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
n/m, i'm being bold--C.lettinga 04:46, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Hey, welcome on board. At the moment, there is no connection between DCW and WP:WDC. I personally am rather hesitant to cite DCW as a source or use article information from there because while it does have some good information and a lot of quality articles, some of the pages are direct copy-paste jobs from the corresponding corpsreps.com history and other information is virtually impossible to source or cite--such as the Cadets blurb on "Whattamaneuvah!" Still, if you can find information from DCW that can help improve our articles, please do. Mr Bound 21:54, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
indeed, I thought I had found some quality articles but I wasn't as familiar w/ the topics as a few others. Checked for sources, and indeed, lots and lots of copyvio. ah well. still working on cleanup, expanding, etc--C.lettinga 22:38, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Corps page format?
Hi. What format are we using for corps pages? Like Esperanza or like Blue Devils? Just looking for clarification so I can clean up.--C.lettinga 00:56, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
- Could we look at formulating a template which can be used on all pages? There are many different variations used right now and consistency may improve the look. Werecowmoo (talk) 16:26, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Templates on Corps Pages
Just a thought on formatting-should templates really be on the top of the encyclopaedic articles or just on the talk pages?-Hornandsoccer 21:53, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Talk pages only, is what I've seen with other projects. If you see a template on the top of an article page, please move it to the talk page or if there's already one there, just take it out. Thanks! Mr Bound 22:23, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've seen it either way. I put them on the front page of each article for now because several admins have been going through and purging the DCA pages. Figured this would let the admin know that a project is actively working on the articles.Werecowmoo (talk) 23:10, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Project User Template
Hi, I've made a very poor project user template...but it might be of some interest. Certainly it helped me in learning to work with templates.--C.lettinga 11:32, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Here's the code:

I'm making a userbox as well, mostly because it meshes better with the dimensions of other userboxes i have. Feel free to use. With the Project's permission, I'll create a usable template as a subpage to the Project itself; let me know. --Littledrummrboy 21:05, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 18:02, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I beefed up the category work
I noticed that the designate category for this project was empty, so I have been working on it tonight. It is up to around 45 articles. Rokbloom 06:06, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Liscencing image.
Can someone please review the liscence on this picture? I don't know what it is. Here's the picture. It is in use on the Madison Scouts page.
