So where are we going with this? Should we start making additions to the temporary project page in user space given above? Should we start tagging articles' talk pages with {{WikiProject Connecticut}}? I'm not sure what the procedure is here and I want to be sure before being bold. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 15:42, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Just be bold, this notice should be removed and the user page should be moved to Wikipedia:WikiProject Connecticut, there the page can be expanded and set up to the project's liking. I would say be bold here, once its up its easier to attract new members. Post a notice at the Community Portal under new projects. A concentrated effort to recruit new members could be made utilizing Category:Wikipedians in Connecticut. Good luck and I hope that helps. Oh yeah, check out some of the existing state projects for ideas on how to set up the page.A mcmurray (talk • contribs) 07:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Going "Live"

I took the suggestion of A mcmurray (talk · contribs) and moved the project page out of user space. I've updated the templates to point to the new page, and I think I'll give the servers some more time to do their thing before I start slapping it up on more talk pages. I'll have to study how some of the other state projects are set up, but I'm sure we can all just start running with the obvious tasks anyways. See you all around! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 08:30, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

This is cool, I had checked to see if there was a Connecticut WikiProject a while back and didn't see one. It's nice to see it begin! Leebo T/C 14:47, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Assessment section

Created an Assessment page, and added the stats table that's automatically regenerated every day (or so) by the assessment-bot. Pretty it up as needed, please; just wanted to create something that could be expanded. --Ebyabe 14:45, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Very, very nice. I've also seen that you've been doing a lot of the assessment work too, thanks very much for that also! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 15:32, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New articles

Dear Wikipedians, a list of possible Connecticut-related articles found by bot is available at User:AlexNewArtBot/ConnecticutSearchResult. Colchicum 14:36, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the excellent resource! I'll start tagging articles as soon as I catch up to my backlog... if someone doesn't beat me to it! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 15:30, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Photo request

Looking for any Connecticut photographers willing to shoot and upload to Commons for Connected farm, as parts of northern Connecticut seems to be one of the primary locales for such style of home, at least according to the definitive study on connected farm distribution, which is, admittedly, old. Thanks in advance and if you could reply on my talk page as well that would be great. IvoShandor 09:24, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

I live in northern Connecticut and I've never seen/heard of something like this. I'll ask around though. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 15:33, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Comment on Fairfield County?

I think all the county articles need some work, though I certainly would not insist that they be completely consistent. However there is a section on the Klan in Fairfield County that an editor has repeatedly added. If you don't mind taking a look and leaving a note on the talk page Talk:Fairfield County, Connecticut, it'd be much appreciated. Jd2718 00:16, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

The content was moved to History of Connecticut. One editor is unhappy about that move, but the clear consensus on talk is that is does not belong on the county page. Cmprince 01:47, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Comments requested regarding CDP articles

Wikipedia has articles on census designated places (CDPs). The ones for Connecticut can be found in Category:Census-designated places in Connecticut. My view is that articles for CDPs that refer to the town center of a town do not merit a separate article as all they would have are the Census Bureau's statistics. For example, does Central Manchester, Connecticut need to exist separately from Manchester, Connecticut? If these statistics for the town center is deemed important that people will want to know them separately from those of the entire town, a section in the town article may be a more appropriate venue. CDP articles for well-established villages should, of course, remain as separate articles. Comments regarding how we should treat Connecticut CDP articles for town centers would be appreciated. --Polaron | Talk 23:09, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Additional note: I've redirected the CDP articles for town centers to the town articles so they aren't presently in the Category I noted above. --Polaron | Talk 23:14, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I agree and would tend to go a tad further. I think that all of the CDPs that have no substantial content beyond the census stats should be merged into a section of their parent towns' articles. They're obviously being neglected as they are and might actually get developed enough to be split back off in the future if they're where people will see them. Articles such as Rockville or Willimantic are well developed to remain on their own, and Georgetown doesn't have a particular town to be merged into. In general, though, most of the CDPs will fit nicely into their parent towns' articles until they're developed enough to be split back off. —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 23:51, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I agree; redirects are appropriate, and maintaining municipality articles will be easier. Cmprince 01:51, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of town center CDPs

This is the complete list of town center CDPs I am referring to. They are presently redirects to the town articles, unless otherwise indicated. --Polaron | Talk 01:35, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Newport

I came across Newport, Connecticut a little bit ago and cleaned it up somewhat. I can't quite find where it would be on a map, or what kind of settlement it is; would someone here take care of it? Nyttend 17:15, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I am unaware of such a settlement. It is not listed in the principal communities list of the DECD. I am actually inclined to believe this is a hoax. Hopefully people from the Hartford area know better. --Polaron | Talk 18:44, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NHLs and NRHPs in CT

There's a List of National Historic Landmarks in Connecticut article which can use help editing descriptions of the 59 separate National Historic Landmarks in CT. Many of the 59 need photos. There is also a List of Registered Historic Places in Connecticut that includes all of the NHLs and many more NRHPs that are not NHLs. Comments on the List article would be appreciated, in its talk page or here. doncram 14:40, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hopkins School

Hopkins School has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here. Loopla 06:11, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Middletown, Connecticut

It may be helpful of some folks with knowledge of the history of the state could weigh in on the discussion page of Middletown, Connecticut. Thanks! :)--Pgagnon999 (talk) 16:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] First Connecticut FA

Metacomet Ridge has become the first (according to the category list, anyway) Connecticut related featured article. --Pgagnon999 (talk) 01:05, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] redirection of county navigation templates to state template

See reasoning at Template talk:Connecticut#All towns listing. Individual county templates were removed in favor of a state template that has been expanded to list all towns and boroughs. Comments are requested. --Polaron | Talk 16:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] How best to disambiguate page name of CT neighborhoods

Disambiguation of page names for CT neighborhoods appears to vary greatly - some examples below:

Can we decide on one method of disambiguation and use it uniformly? Gjs238 (talk) 13:49, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

The Wikipedia-wide usual way of disambiguation is to use a term in parenthesis that best differentiates it from other topics having the same name. If there are no other articles having the same name, no disambiguation is needed. See [1] and [2] for more information on the conventions used for neighborhoods in US cities. Basically there are two ways of titling neighborhoods of US cities: (1) "neighborhood, city, state" or (2) "neighborhood (city)"/"neighborhood (city, state)". The second case is the one currently used in Connecticut (e.g. Saugatuck and Lime Rock). In the case of Moodus, the only naming conflict is with a fictional character so the use of "(village)" as the disambiguator is entirely appropriate. In the case of Aspectuck, there are no other similarly named articles so no disambiguation is needed. The case of Silvermine is unusual in that it is a neighborhood located in three municipalities so it is named as a distinct community (i.e. "community, state"). Canaan village in North Canaan town needs to be distinguished from Canaan town and the "(CDP)" is currently the term that is used since it is also a CDP. So in short, there is no inconsistency here. It follows what most articles in Wikipedia do for disambiguation. --Polaron | Talk 18:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
So then why is Lime Rock (Salisbury, Connecticut) not titled Lime Rock (neighborhood) or Lime Rock (Lakeville) or Lime Rock (Salisbury)? Or why is Saugatuck (Westport) not titled Saugatuck (neighborhood) or Saugatuck (Westport, Connecticut)? Pick one way that works for most if not all applications and apply it uniformly.Gjs238 (talk) 01:12, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Look at the naming conflicts. There is a Saugatuck in Michigan and a Lime Rock in Rhode Island so these places need to be disambiguated by the containing place. Admittedly, Lime Rock can be at "Lime Rock (Salisbury)". The only issue is Salisbury is not a particularly well-known town. Otherwise, there is nothing inconsitent here. --Polaron | Talk 01:48, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template:WikiProject Connecticut tags

I've just finished tagging every Connecticut town or city article. I didn't add the quality class to all of them, so they are unassessed. Branson03 (talk) 15:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Connecticut

For Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Connecticut, I created county subcategories to make it easier for Wikipedian photographers to find location-specific requets for photos. GregManninLB (talk) 17:13, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I revised Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Connecticut, Template:WikiProject Connecticut, and WikiProject Connecticut images to give WikiProject Connecticut and Connecticut based photographers better information regarding Connecticut articles needing photographs. GregManninLB (talk) 16:50, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] George Comer

Hello. I just created an article on the East Haddam whaler, George Comer. There are several online references to the fact that he was a member of the Connecticut "State Legislature" after he retired from polar exploration, but I can't find a government document that places him in the State Senate or State House. If anyone on this project has access to older public documents with this info, I'd appreciate if you'd update the article. Thanks. Cheers. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:50, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Area Code 475

I just received a call from area code 475, Wikipedia still lists it as "proposed" but it is apparently active now. Does anyone have more information on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lgedeon (talk • contribs) 20:52, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
