Copersucar-Fittipaldi

Hi. Just a quick note to say that I've got an article on the Copersucar sponsored Fittipaldi Automotive motor racing team set up by double Formula One world champion Emerson Fittipaldi and his brother Wilson undergoing Peer Review at present. If anyone wants to give a more Brazilian perspective on the only Brazilian team ever to compete in the World Championship, please see here. Thanks. 4u1e

Missing articles about places in Brazil with population > 100,000

Here is a list of the remaining places in Brazil with a population of over 100,000 that still do not have articles on the English-language Wikipedia.

Some of them may be alternative or mis-spelled names for existing places, in which case, please redirect to the correct article.

Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 15:33, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Mercosur Project

Greetings, I just wanted to let you know that I reserved a spot for Project Mercosur. It is basically a wikiproject on Mercosur and the countries that are part of it. Anyone interested please join, there's plenty of work to do. --Wesborland 23:56, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

WPMILHIST

A discussion is going on at WikiProject military history whether or not a South American military history task force should be created. The suggestion is currently lacking support but if you are intrested in the topic could you please go to WikiProject Military History's talk page and say you are intrested and are willing to support the taskforce so it can be created. Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Template

Does anyone know of a template for the WikiProject Brazil to put on the user page? Chico 23:40, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

  • {{WPBrazil}}, which was created by Badbilltucker (talk · contribs) on 21 November 2006. --Eastmain 05:34, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
    • For the user page, not for the article. For the user page is there any?Chico 15:29, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
      • {{User WPBrazil}} is the userbox for the project. Speaking of which, there is no assessment either on the template or the project page. Someone who knows more about templates than me should do something.Macgreco 00:29, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Template:Airlines of Brazil

I just made the template {{Airlines of Brazil}} per a request at WP:REQT. Feel free to use it where appropriate. If you need help maintaining/improving it, leave a message on my talk page. —Dgiest c 17:26, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Project template

I have taken the Portuguese porject template and done a version of it that includes assessment of class and importance and a section of the assessment guidelines for the WPBrazil page. I would like to know if other members think it should be included. Macgreco 01:32, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Chage

The article Chage is listed on Proposed Deletion. It states, "chage is a spice that comes from the forests in brazil." Your attention is welcome. Fg2 00:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Luciano Huck

I just created Luciano Huck. It is currently very much a stub. http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luciano_Huck is also very small. Please add content to either or both of these. Obrigado. -- Writtenonsand 18:59, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Manual of style

I would like to suggest the creation of a Manual of Style for Portugal/Brazil/portuguese related subjects. This should include a simple but consistent set of rules concerning translations, place names, family names and such. your input is welcome. I think it should include things like not translating portuguese place names (Rio de Janeiro samba stadium) and keeping portuguese names in proper order (president Da Silva) among other things. I think it would improve the general presence of Portuguese/Brazilian subjects on wikipedia. Please contrinute to the discussion here: Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Portuguese-related articles) Galf 14:53, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Brazilian films

Hi!! Please can you help fill in the List of Brazilian films I am afraid it will be up for afd. I and a few other users are trying to fill the lists by country in. If you can add the details on the films already on wikipedia in year order from Category:Brailzian films and any others you know of from notable directors etc that would be a great help for WP Film sand Brazil!. Need list of all Brazil-related categories

Can somebody please direct me to a list of all Brazil-related categories? (Or can we please create such a list if it doesn't already exist.)

-- I see a list at Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Brazil -- is this the logical place to look? This list appears to not be complete, based on the categories I see in some articles.

-- Writtenonsand 15:00, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Try Category:Brazil, although the list looks like it could use some cleanup. Corvokarasu 16:35, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Bilateral relations discussion

I would like to invite you all to participate in a discussion at this thread regarding bilateral relations between two countries. All articles related to foreign relations between countries are now under the scope of WikiProject Foreign relations, a newly created project. We hope that the discussion will result in a more clean and organized way of explaining such relationships. Thank you. Ed ¿Cómo estás? 18:58, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Museum of the Portuguese Language

Anyone ever been to this place? I'd appreciate work on it, especially expanding the smaller sections of the article, so it could get to FA status eventually... There's a failed FA nomination linked to on the talk page with some suggestions. Grandmasterka 04:27, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

More "Brazil-footy-bio" stub types proposed

The Brazilian football biographies have become very large, and I've proposed some sub-types. Please comment there if you've a view on the most useful way of doing this. Alai 21:53, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Translating Mauá's Page

I subscribed to this project and subscribed as a translator pt-en to. So as my first job as a translator I picked Visconte de Mauá's page(pt: Irineu Evangelista de Souza‎‎). It's a big page, so if anybody could help as a translator or a proofreader i would apreciate!(If you can help, please contact me!)

PS: Is it ok for us to write in portuguese here sometimes?

I'm using a machina translation and then fixing things because the article is very big, so someone that could just read what a just wrote would be a lot of help to! eusourei(talk) 01:35, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

List of Brazil-related topics

Are members of this project aware that List of Brazil-related topics has been deleted on this AFD? I came across this while commenting on this country-level topic AFD. -- Ganeshk (talk) 00:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Hmm... One would think that a nation of 180+ million would be deserving of a list of (said nation)-related topics... I think we may have to make room for a second Brazil collaboration this month... --(Ptah, the El Daoud 18:53, 2 May 2007 (UTC))

Proposed Merger

I have proposed a merger (over a duplicated Brazilian history article), which you can read about (...and vote for or against!) here: Talk:1964 Brazilian coup d'état. I would like to have a few more votes, if possible, so please head on over that way! --(Ptah, the El Daoud 18:53, 2 May 2007 (UTC))

A possible task

I am entertaining (but have taken no steps so far) the possibility of creating an entry referring to the Pope's visit to Brazil — or maybe a single article about all Papal visits, with chapters for each visit (4 in total: 3 by John Paul II and the currently ongoing visit by Benedict XVI), since the entry at the List of Pope Benedict XVI's travels is rather small (and rightfully so, since it would be too much to include too many details in such a general list). Particularly, the current visit by Benedict XVI would be the easiest to work on, since it is current, making information and even usable images easier to find (now, as opposed to trying to put this together two years from now, for instance). Thoughts? Redux 23:47, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Santa Catarina historical maps

I could find no account in the relevant articles (or in the Portuguese Wiki, for that matter) of how the expansion east of the state of Santa Catarina happened sometime at the turn of the last century (compare 1889 and 1990). It would be much appreciated if someone cleared this up. Cheers, Albrecht 05:37, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Rio de Janeiro

Hi there, fellows. I need your opinion regarding Rio de Janeiro. User:João Felipe C.S made recent changes which I think was simply flooding the article with images. So I rearranged them in a consistent way. To my surprise, my version had more images than João Felipe's version, therefore the problem it's in the way he places images. Could you please take a look and add your thoughts? Thank you. —Lesfer (t/c/@) 14:34, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Franca

Pretty much, this Brazilian city article has been expanded, but having problems with references that are not in English. Can yall try to expand it? Thanks. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:21, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Allegations of Brazilian apartheid

Could someone who knows something about Brazilian society have a look at Allegations of Brazilian apartheid? Should the article exist at all? —Ashley Y 21:59, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

While I am not a specialist (History teacher, not Sociologist) I think the article merits to exist because there is indeed a very marked social problem in Brazil, which is interpreted by some as akin to an apartheid. As a Brazilian I can testify that these allegations are well-known here and quite often discussed in politics and the media. We Brazilians, as a whole, do not deny the problem and the term employed here is not taken as a slur.jggouvea 22:09, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
That seems to be the consensus of the references provided in the article. Should the article be renamed "Social apartheid in Brazil" or somesuch, rather than "Allegations of..."? —Ashley Y 06:49, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Can an user manipulate Brazil article?

Since user João Felipe C.S started to manipulate the Brazil article, it lost all its credibility. The pictures posted by him do not represent Brazil in anything.

I already argued here that he is trying to sell a false idea that Brazil is a copy of Northern Europe, full of blond girls walking in high-tech cities with the best education system in the world, no violence or poverty.

Many users already tried to change the pictures or include new ones, but João Felipe C.S revertes them all with no justification.

Can an user control what people post in an article? Why can only he post there?

To me this is vandalism and João Felipe C.S should be blocked from Wikipedia. Opinoso 01:51, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

I can see you are both very committed to your ideas about how the Brazil article should reflect the country. I think in some ways, both of you are right, but you and João Felipe C.S need to work together to express a shared vision of what it means to be Brazilian. There are blonde, blue-eyed Brazilians, just as there are Afro-Brazilians. There is also a sizeable Japanese-Brazilian population. They're all Brazilian and all should be reflected to some degree. Please, work together on this together, and no, I don't think either one of you should be blocked. What amazed me about Brazil while I lived there is how races are not divided the way they are in the United States. Let's not be divided here. I hope that some day race is not even a major issue; I hope one day we'll just see people, not colors. Corvokarasu 04:05, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Allegations of Brazilian apartheid

There is a proposal to merge Allegations of Brazilian apartheid into Human rights in Brazil. There is another proposal to rename the Allegations article "Social apartheid in Brazil". Please discuss these proposals at Talk:Allegations of Brazilian apartheid. Lothar of the Hill People 03:02, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Cazuza: Sexual orientation needs cite

The article on the Brazilian musician Cazuza nowhere mentions his sexual orientation, yet the article is included in WikiProject LGBT studies, as well as the categories Gay musicians and LGBT people from Brazil. Discussion at Talk:Cazuza. Can anybody provide the article with a cite or two on this? Thanks. -- Writtenonsand 11:44, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

The problem, is that it SHOULD be in the article. He was a well known gay celebrity in brazil. Tufts (talk) 00:01, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Rio Carnival

I think this article needs to be covered by this project. It has no Project tag. I am sure the many Brazilians here could work to improve it, especially with photographs. Totnesmartin 18:02, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Cansei needs your help

The article Cansei (Movimento Cívico pelo Direito dos Brasileiros) is very short. Please help to improve this article. (Please remember that everything needs to be NPOV and have good cites.)

- Also, the section "Personalities" of this article lists many Brazilian celebrities who are currently redlinks. We either need to make new articles for these people, or (careful!) to find existing Wikipedia articles for these people with different titles and make the redlinks redirect to them. Thanks, all! -- Writtenonsand 13:05, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Trio Elétrico

We need some opinions about "Trio Elétrico".
We currently have a page at Trio Elétrico. Wikipedia style is usually to capitalize only the first word of the title, unless there is some reason not to (See Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Lowercase_second_and_subsequent_words_in_titles.)
For example, Belo Horizonte is correct. Belo horizonte would be wrong.
Should we move this article to Trio elétrico, or is Trio Elétrico better? -- Writtenonsand 13:21, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Academia Militar de Agulhas Negras needs your help

Academia Militar de Agulhas Negras looks like it may have been semi-translated from a Portuguese original and needs some attention:

  • general grammar
  • cites!

Brazilian Writers

While reading an article about Drummond, I became interested in another poet, one which I could not find an article dedicated to him. I then saw the article, List of Brazilian writers, and noticed that there is way too many red links to be even partially satisfactory. I say we could definately work on this. Those who do supply help, leave a message here under this section with your name and article you edited, so we can all revise and congratulate you. Tufts (talk) 00:01, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Café com leite needs your help

Café com leite (the domination of Brazilian politics during the República Velha (1889-1930) by the landed gentries of São Paulo and Minas Gerais) needs cleanup. It is currently a stub, but if we eliminated repetition and rephrasing, it would be only a few sentences long. -- Writtenonsand 19:31, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

The Pixar knockoffs: The Little Cars (Os Carrinhos) and Ratatoing

I wrote the initial articles for The Little Cars (Os Carrinhos) and Ratatoing - It turns out the article for The Little Cars in the Great Race already exists.

Anyhow, I found a Folha de S. Paulo about the two Pixar knockoffs, but I'm sure more articles exist about these two series. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:52, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

"Brazil is not a serious country"

The quote "Brazil is not a serious country" is generally attributed to Charles de Gaulle, however [article on Wikiquote] says of this quote "attributed to Carlos Alves de Souza Filho, ambassador for Brazil in France in 1963." (Does this mean that de Souza quoted de Gaulle saying this?)
Can anyone please provide a definite cite for the source of this quote? -- Writtenonsand (talk) 23:55, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Barzilian Carnival

I would like to start WikiProject Brazilian Carnival. It will only focus on articles such as samba schools, famous Brazilian sambistas (such as Dudu Nobre), and all other articles related to Brazilian Carnival. --Nadir D Steinmetz 10:38, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Varig Flight 254

The Varig Flight 254 article is in need of attention from and editor who can read Portuguese and has an understanding of civil aviation. It is currently tagged with "cleanup" and "original research", but there are a number of references in Portuguese. The information contained in those references may well reference to the information in the article, thus negating the OR tag. See also talk page for another piece of infor removed from the article which may also be valid. Mjroots (talk) 11:38, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

David Shankbone goes to Rio de Janeiro for Wikinews/Commons

Hi WikiProject Brazil. The Rio Convention and Visitors Bureau has invited me down to Rio to do some photos of Rio for Wikipedia articles, some Wikinews articles, and I have requested several interviews with some very well-known Rio-based Brazilians. If anyone has suggestions for what to photograph, or who to interview, I welcome them on my Talk page. I look forward to exploring Rio for Wikimedia. I willl be there March 5 through March 11. Help with a Portuguese-language source

I am working on trying to get the article on the ship USS Orizaba (ID-1536), later Duque de Caxias in the Brazilian Navy, to an A-class article. The section on its history as Duque de Caxias is based on a Google translation of a Portuguese-language webpage. I'd appreciate if someone had the time to take a look at the original webpage, here, and could verify that the citations made to it from the article are correct.

Also, I tagged this article for WikiProject Brazil, but did not know what level of importance to assign to the article. What level should be assigned for this article? Thanks — Bellhalla (talk) 16:24, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Former states

I just came across the article Guanabara, and I noticed that there is no separate category for former/abolished/defunct/disbanded/disestablished Brazilian states. Should there be such a category? And if so, what should it be called? AecisBrievenbus 10:27, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I think that would be an excellent addition! Former States of Brazil would be an ok name. Also another thing to do would be to expand that guanabara article it is quite small for its importance. Tufts (talk) 18:07, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 21:06, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
