Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Birds (species taxobox example)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Binomial name
Last year, I had started added binomial derivations to species articles. But that project got put aside. I am ready again to embark on adding binomial derivations.
I was using a † system, in which a † was placed by the binomial name at the beginning of the article, and then at the bottom of the article I explained the derivations (see Red-throated Diver for an example). Since then, however, the taxoboxes have been perfected. And I think it would make more sense to remove the †s and place the derivations at the bottom of the taxobox. It would look something like this: Pacific Diver.
Question one, does adding this info to the taxobox add or detract from the taxobox?
Question two, if you like the idea, how can it be better formatted? Is left alignment good? or should it be centered? Bold did not look right. Also, I had to use < BR > in the text because the taxobox got too wide. Any formatting help would be much appreciated.

- I think this is an improvement on the previous style. My only concern is that we don't try to put too much in the taxoboxes. jimfbleak

- Hmmm....i tried the new idea on Great Northern Diver...maybe it takes up too much room in the box. Maybe the old way is better? Kingturtle 01:10, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)
