[edit] Suggested content for future newsletters

Some suggestions from me for possible inclusions in future newsletters:

  • Recently recognised wikipedians through triple crown and Drover's award
  • Recent Australia-related DYKs
  • Profiles (wikipedia based) of Australian contributers - eg their areas of contribution ...
  • Wikipedia in the Australian media
  • Other wikimedia projects - eg Australian updates to Wikisource, Commons, ...
  • Australian meet-ups
    • Perhaps some people might be prepared to write about the recent Canberra and Melbourne meet-ups

I understand that suggestions for the next issue should be made on this talk page, so I guess if I (or anybody else) wishes to run with this we just start a new section and develop it further. I think the newsletter is a great addition - thanks to those who put it together - Spebi and Blnguyen --Matilda talk 20:44, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

On that first point - I still do the summary - the primary source is at Wikipedia:Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight/History. I hadn't even realised I didn't post it to WP:AWNB last week until I read this - it was late and I was thinking about other things. I knew I missed reporting the previous week at AWNB at all, and wanted to redress that oversight. --Scott Davis Talk 12:10, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] For future issues: ACOTF

Media Watch (TV program) was WP:ACOTF from 26 November 2007 to 10 December 2007

  • 9 contributors made 13 edits. The article increased from 890 words/54.5kb to 1372 words/34.6 kb - just over 50% increase. See how it changed

The new ACOTF is 1967 in Australia.

Comments suggest the following could also be within scope for improvement: Melbourne, Harold Holt, BHP Billiton, Drover (Australian), Brisbane.

[edit] For future issues: Recognition of Australian Wikipedians

Further Australian Wikipedians to be awarded Durova's Australian Special edition WikiProject triple crown since the last newsletter are: Matilda Moondyne Mattinbgn VirtualSteve Gnangarra RaNdOm26 Thebainer.

In response to suggestions that we recognise Australian Wikipedians who contribute much to the project Moondyne created a Drover's Award for Australian Wikipedians who work tirelessly behind the scenes, especially on WikiProject and Portal maintenance tasks. To date those recognised are SatuSuro Longhair CJ User:Spebi User:Moondyne User:Grahamec User:Mattinbgn User:ScottDavis.

[edit] General discussion

[edit] Outreach umbrella

Can I suggest that the newsletter be brought under the umbrella of Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/Outreach. It makes senses to consolidate these activities. —Moondyne 02:29, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I second that move but I find it useful to have a separate tab on the WP:Aus info box--Matilda talk 20:44, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Hmmm - I note the outreach department is somewhat languishing--Matilda talk 20:50, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] January GA and FA articles

To 25 January 2008

There should be +19 GAs somewhere, since I Don't Remember and Archie Jackson were GAs, the net GAs has increased from 106 to 123, so we are still missing some new GAs. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 22:54, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Recently (since 25 January) there has been Thirsty Merc that I know about. -- Mattinbgn\talk 23:06, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
And Brabham BT19, was tagged as WP Australia in January (promoted to FA in October 2007). -- Mattinbgn\talk 23:20, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeh I noticed that. WP:AUSTRALIA isn't nationalistic enough....LOL....Blnguyen (bananabucket) 23:28, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
