[edit] overland transport?
Much of early transportation in Alaska was by foot or dogsled. Still is, in some areas, although mushing is primarily recreation nowadays. Should we have a separate subcategory for this? For example, the old rural mail routes were by river in the summer, dogsled in the winter; so were the medical and missionary routes. Deirdre 17:46, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
