A proposal for a periodic survey of Wikipedia content for purposes of evaluating encyclopedic standards achieved by Wikipedia.

[edit] Methodology

Establish total number of articles 'T' in English Wikipedia; exclude stubs, redirects & other non-content entities.

Select M most popular articles. Select N articles, randomly, from among the top 10% of articles, ordered by popularity(traffic). Select P articles, randomly, from the rest.

(M, N,P to be decided based on statistical sampling methods & desired confidence levels)

For each article, compare accuracy, lucidity, breadth & depth, presentation, against other encyclopedias & credible sources.

Encode these comparisons in quantitative metrics. If feasible, reduce to an overall measure.

Present results. Rinse & repeat regularly, say, 6 months.
