[edit] New Userspace Userbox Guide
If you are making a new userbox that is not obviously related to encyclopedia-editing, it is prudent to create it in your user space and not as a template. To do this, you have to do the following,
- The below steps are NOT optional.
- Go to your userpage
- Go to the address bar for your userpage
- Add something such as /Userboxes to the end of it
- Create the page
- Return to the address bar
- Add something such as /Mario Player or whatever your userbox will be about
- Use the userbox template found Wikipedia:Userboxes#Constructing a userbox
- You are finished.
- Optional
- Userbox Maker for Steps 1-6 (New!)
Just change the "Your Name" on the input box to your username, and change the "Userbox Name" on the input box to whatever your userbox is called and click on "New Userbox". Isn't that quick enough?
Once your done, follow steps 7-8 above.
- Putting it on your user page
- Then make a userbox sidebar on your userpage by doing {{Userboxtop|Your Name Here}}
- Add your userbox shortcut code to the userbox sidebar you made
- Then close it with a {{Userboxbottom}} code.
- You're done!
- Releasing it to the public.
- If you want your userbox to be made available to the public, go to the Wikipedia Userbox gallery (shortcut is below)
- Look for the gallery you want your userbox to be in. For example, if your userbox was about someone playing the Wii, you go to the Games gallery, look for "Computer and video games", and then for "System of choice", then go to "Nintendo".
- Then add this code somewhere in a respective userbox page
|{{[[User:Your Name/Userboxes/Userbox name]]}}||{{User:Your Name/Userboxes/Userbox name}} . Please put it on a page that has to do with the userbox you're making.
- 4. You're finished. If you want to do another one, simply repeat the process.

[edit] For people who have already made a userbox
- If you already made a userbox, but didn't put it on your userpage, Go to the Entry Form section.
- If you already made a userbox but didn't make it available to the public and you want to make it available to the public, follow the "Releasing it to the public" process above.
- If you already made a userbox but want to make changes to it, return to the page for your userbox and edit it there.
[edit] Entry Form
An example of a entry form would go like this:
Username: (So the staff will know who you are) |
---|
Links to Userboxes: (Where the userboxes are so the staff will know which ones to transfer) |
Root Page: (Where the userboxes will go, for example User:Your Name Here/Userboxes/. Remember to please use your username so there won't be any dispute) |
Here is the code for the entry form.
{| class="wikitable" |- ! Username: |- | Links to Userboxes: |- | Root Page: |}
If you are having trouble putting your request in the table, go to edit mode for this page, and copy the code for the table below.
Username: |
---|
Links to Userboxes: |
Root Page: |
Please use the talk page for this article to submit your entries. One of the staff of this WikiProject will transfer your userbox back to your userspace ASAP.
[edit] Manual Setup (New!)
Do you perfer not to use the request form and want to do it yourself? Well look no further, a hack of the original Userbox Migration template has been made so you can transfer from userpage to userpage, instead of the original where you only do it from template page to userpage (Don't worry, the original template is still there, unchanged). You can find the new one below (The old one is below the new one as well).
Code | Appearance | ||
---|---|---|---|
Userbox Migration: User Page to User Page (New) | |||
{{User:Masky/Templates/Userboxes/UserpgtoUserpg/|1|2}} |
|
||
Userbox Migration: Template to User Page (Old) | |||
{{User UBM UBX to|1|2}} |
|
Help: The "1" on the sample template means to paste in the old page on the code, and the "2" means to paste in the new page on the code.
[edit] Important Notice Regarding the Userbox Migration templates
Use the new template if you want to transfer your userbox from userpage to userpage, and use the old one if your trasfering your userbox from a template page to a userpage. Hopefully, another hack covering the userpage to template page migration will come soon, but don't count on it.
