- Enter the station's name, the operator as manager, town as locale, local authority as borough, and the number of platforms in use. Optional fields allow an image and caption, owner, National Rail Enquiries three-letter code, pte and fare zone, and an other name, e.g. for bi-lingual station names. Passenger numbers can be expressed as lowusage where the number is less than 100,000, or usage where greater in millions to three decimal places. For events, the parameter years is the date and events the details. For full information see Template talk:Infobox UK station, where you will also find links to the usage statistics.

- Start templates
- {{rail start}} start of route information box for national rail. Headings for preceding and following station and a link to national rail
- {{start TWM box}} start of route information box for Tyne and Wear Metro. Headings for preceding and following station and a link to Tyne and Wear Metro
- {{Disused Rail Start}} start of disused route information. Heading for preceding and following station and a link to the disused rail category
- {{Historical Rail Start}} start of information of the Original Line info. Heading for preceding and following station.
- Line templates Next / previous are the stations served on either side; route is the company and/or route, col is the colour of the dividing columns (see Template talk:Rail line if in doubt). For Historical Lines in Scotland, the colour corresponds to that relating to the pre-1923 company as given in WPTIS Talk Page. Where there is more than one route, previous1 is the stations on the first route, previous2 is on the second route, etc.
- There are also many variants to deal with merging lines. In the examples below, {{{col}}} is blue █ , {{{col1}}} is yellow █, and {{{col2}}} is red █.

Events are originalopen and closed with optional preservation events as years1 and events1, etc. Note the map parameter only needs the file name, not the Image: or size restrictions.

- Enter the railroad_name, the country as locale, headquarters as hq_city and gauge. The optional marks is for initials carried on rolling stock to identify the owner. The logo and map parameters only need the file name, not the Image: or size restrictions.
