[edit] Scope and Goals

There are currently over 500 articles about Trains in Japan (see Category:Rail transport in Japan), many of which have been translated from the respective Japanese version (see the category on the Japanese Wikipedia).

Some articles are in states of bad disrepair, with awkward grammar, formatting and spelling. This WikiProject helps highlight these problems, and seeks to improve the visibility of articles about trains in Japan.

Although "Trains in Japan" may sound like a narrow topic, in reality there are hundreds of pages to be created and expanded.

The focus at WikiProject Trains in Japan will mainly be articles in Category:Rail transport in Japan.

[edit] Goals

Our goals are to:

  1. Provide a centralized discussion point for articles about railways in Japan
  2. Standardize articles about Trains in Japan
  3. Provide information that's useful for both railway enthusiasts and visitors to Japan
  4. Create an interesting portal
  5. And of course... improve as many Japanese railway articles to featured status

[edit] Inter-wiki Relations

Since many of the articles in our scope originated as translations of the articles at the Japanese Wikipedia, one of our aims is to improve relations with Wikipedias in other languages. In particular, we could improve the quality of the articles here by inviting English-speaking users from the Japanese Wikipedia, and translating articles as part of this Project.

[edit] Tasks

Below are some open tasks. For a complete list, please refer to this page. You can, of course, choose to work on something completely different.

Here are some open WikiProject Trains in Japan tasks you can do:
Improve: Hankyu Kobe Line, Shinkansen
Expand: Hikari Rail Star, Kakegawa Station, Narita Airport Station, Keio Inokashira Line
Write:
Translate: M250 series (Original)
Requested: Train-related on Requested articles/Japan
Illustrate: Chiba Urban Monorail, Hotarugaike Station, Jingu-mae Station, Ikebukuro Station
Review: Sobu Line (Rapid), Keiyo Line, Twilight Express, Sapporo Station

[edit] Adopt an article

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced. Please list your name next to the article you are working on.
