Welcome to the WikiProject Time to Think. The purpose of this project is to help editors to recognize when too much engagement on debate is risking to reflect on the quality of Wikipedia articles and on the editor's capacities of participation in Wikipedia.

This project aims to assist with reinstating a collaboration flow and defusing situations before they arrive, sometimes unnecessarily, to WP:ANI or WP:RFAR.

This is not a membership WikiProject, we would like to consider all Wikipedians as potential seeders of the idea of "Time to Think" when they come across a fiercy debate, edit war or confrontation in any page.


Guidelines

The use of the following templates as a message in the talk pages where debate is ongoing, seeks to alert to the situation and to call for time to reason, in those debates that scalate within short periods of time.

Hi, sometimes it is necessary some time for giving chance to others to understand your point or to meet your ideas halfway. What about if all participants of this debate take a day or so to:

  • Allow others to think about your points
  • Think about why others have a different opinion and try to understand the essence of it
  • Think how to make your point more clear and understandable
  • Think how can be found a middle way

    Heated up debates rarely have the resolution you expect and may carry instead to protected pages, incident notifications, requests for arbitration, blocks and other undesired consequences, Take Time to Think!

To be used in pages in which you are not involved at all. Do not get involved afterwards!

I propose you to leave our debate for now and we can both take a breath. We are both too engaged. Lets agree to leave this argument at least one day in the icebox, then we start with a smile, better ideas and better attitude, shall we?

You can also add the article to Category:Articles needing more editors which has the purpose to call for more editors to participate in a given article, in the hope that fresh ideas and perspectives and a larger number of editors may help to smoothen discussions which are often limited to few editors engaged in imposing their ideas.
