The field parameter in the WikiProject Systems rating template is a rough and ready subdivision of the coverage of the WikiProject Systems into broad fields. Its purpose is to break up assessed articles into more manageable groups and to keep track of progress within each area. It also helps editors with some particular expertise or interests to find articles to which their contributions would be particularly useful.
