[edit] Introduction
The purpose of this project is to bring information on sports car racing to Wikipedia and thus into public view. By having a collaborative effort, we will be able to present information about sportscar racing in a standardized fashion that will allow people to find the information they want on sportscar racing with ease. At the same time we will also be able to help articles expand and provide fact checking for others, giving us truly encyclopedic information. Most of all, as editors and sports car racing fans, we will be able to expand our own knowledge of the sport by working with others who enjoy this sport as much as we do.

[edit] Primary Tasks
The primary tasks of the project will be to produce articles about the basics of sports car racing. These articles will contain the most basic information about the subject like history, champions or winners, locations, notability, and so on.
The following are types of primary articles that should be dealt with first, with examples:
- Sports car racing
- Individual racing series
- Example: Japan Le Mans Challenge

[edit] Secondary Tasks
These tasks are more in-depth, providing a wealth of information about specific areas of sportscar racing. These will take much longer then any of the primary tasks due to the vast amount of wealth necessary to complete the task.
The following are types of secondary articles that should be dealt with if you have specific knowledge about the large amount of information necessary, again with examples:
- Individual championship seasons
- Individual races in a season
- Example: 2006 24 Hours of Le Mans
- Notable racing teams
- Example: Ecurie Ecosse
- Notable driver biographies and histories
- Example: Johnny O'Connell
- Racing circuits that lack a history, but are still notable
- Example: Masaryk Circuit
- Notable racing cars
- Example: Porsche 911 GT1
- Manufacturers that lack a history, but are still notable
- Example: Dome (constructor)
- Engine builders that are seperate from chassis manufacturers
- Example: Judd (engine)
- Adding photographs for articles
- Example: Image:Gtp sports cars.jpg
[edit] Other Tasks
Other tasks that do not fit into primary or secondary categories are ones that can be done simple in free time, and have no set structure. This includes correcting typos, mistakes, and grammar errors in articles, as well asproofreading or proposing questions to editors regarding facts or substance.
If you create or find another other useful tools that you feel the rest of us should know about, feel free to add them to this list. If possible, inform others on this page's talk page so that some do not miss it.
[edit] Tools
There are several tools to help editors create pages for sports car racing, especially when it comes to more specific articles.
[edit] Example Pages
The following example pages can be used by editors in order for us all to maintain similar styles when it comes to using these pages across Wikipedia:
- Individual Racing Seasons - Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports Car Racing/Example Season
- Individual Race Report - Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports Car Racing/Example Race
[edit] Templates
All templates will be able to be found in Sports Car Racing templates, however here are a few notable ones.
- {{Sportscar season}} - Used in season pages to link to the previous and following year.
- {{Sportscar Race Report}} - Used on individual race pages to link to the previous and following race.
- {{"Tire Company"}} - Tire templates. A full list is available in Category:Tire manufacturer templates.
- Example: {{Michelin}} = M
- {{Le Mans drivers}} - Used for racers who have participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
General templates:
- {{WikiProject Sports Car Racing}} or {{WPSCR}} - Used on the talk pages of all articles having to do with sports car racing. Add to any article that you know of that does not contain it yet.
- {{User WP:SCR}} - Can be added to the user page of any member of the project.
[edit] Categories
All pages should be linked in some way to categories. A list of all sports car racing categories currently created will be available in Category:Sports car racing.
Categories should following these rules:
- Individual races should be contained in a category named "Category:(Year) in (Series)"
- Individual seasons should be contained in a category named "Category:(Series)"
- Multiple years of the same race should be contained in a category named "Category:(Racing event) Races"
- Example: Category:24 Hours of Le Mans races
[edit] Suggestions and Ideas
Anyone is welcome to suggest new ideas, changes, or anything else that they may think up. Feel free to use the project's talk page as you feel necessary.
