WP:SEGA/A

Welcome to the assessment department of The Sega Project. This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's articles related to Sega and The Sega Project. The goal of the project's assessments is to help organize articles that fall under the parameters of the project by quality and importance, as well as bring attention to articles that may be lacking in quality. Eventually, this department wishes to have all articles assessed and have a general rise in the quality of articles that fall under this project.

Contents

[edit] Assessment Instructions

An article's assessment is generated from the "class" parameter in the {{Segaproject}} project banner on its talk page. There is also an "importance" parameter for judging the article's importance in the project.

{{segaproject| class=??? | importance=??? }}

[edit] Assessment Parameters

[edit] By Quality

The following values may be used for the class parameter:

Note that lists are assessed on whether they are generic lists or featured lists.

Articles for which a valid class is not provided are listed in Category:Unassessed Sega articles. The class should be assigned according to the quality scale below. We would also like for these articles to be assessed rapidly, so if you can contribute, we can use your help.

While we do not yet have an official system for naming FA-class or GA-class articles, if the article is a "Featured Article" or "Everyday Life Good Article" respectively, the appropriate tag may also be placed in the class parameter.

[edit] Quality Scale

Article progress grading scheme
Label Criteria Reader's experience Editor's experience Example
Featured article FA
{{FA-Class}}
Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Featured article" status, and meet the current criteria for featured articles. Definitive. Outstanding, thorough article; a great source for encyclopedic information. No further additions are necessary unless new published information has come to light, but further improvements to the text are often possible.
Featured list FL
{{FL-Class}}
Reserved exclusively for lists that have received "Featured list" status, and meet the current criteria for featured lists. Outstanding, thorough list with citations; a great source for encyclopedic information. No further additions are necessary unless new information has come to light, but further improvements to the list are often possible.
A
{{A-Class}}
Provides a complete description of the topic, and contains all information that is normally expected of an article like it. Complies with all of the project guidelines, and most of the featured article guidelines. Should be well referenced, and include no excessive information. May miss a few details, and have some problems with the prose, for example with gaming jargon and in universe perspective. Could be considered for featured article status. Very useful to readers. A fairly complete treatment of the subject. A non-expert in the subject matter would typically find nothing wanting. May miss a few relevant points. Minor edits and adjustments would improve the article, particularly if brought to bear by a subject-matter expert. In particular, issues of breadth, completeness, and balance may need work. Peer-review would be helpful at this stage.
Good article GA
{{GA-Class}}
The article has passed through the Good article nomination process and been granted GA status, meeting the good article standards. Good articles in the project's scope often still need work meeting project guidelines. Having completed the Good article designation process is not a requirement for A-Class. Useful to most readers. A good treatment of the subject, but may lack information in some areas. Can contain excessive information and violate standards. Some editing will clearly be helpful, but not necessary for a good reader experience. Further improvements may require outside comments, for example through an assessment. Now is the time to work on details such as the proper use of citation templates.
B
{{B-Class}}
The highest article grade that can be assigned by a single reviewer from The Sega Project. Has several of the elements described in "start", usually a majority of the material needed for a comprehensive article. May contain stub sections and excessive information and lists. Contains at least a few reliable, third party references, but some text may be unverifiable. Useful to many, but not all, readers. The reader doing in-depth research may find some points missing, and the layperson may be confronted with excessive information only useful to fans. Considerable editing is still needed, including filling in some important gaps or correcting significant policy errors. Cleanup may be needed, and a close look at the project guidelines and featured article guidelines will help with identifying problems. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
Start
{{Start-Class}}
The article has a meaningful amount of good content, but it is still weak in many areas, and may lack a key element. Usually treats the gameplay of a game well, but lacks information on the reception and development of the game. Articles on fiction typically do not contain enough real world information on the subject. Useful to some, provides a moderate amount of information, but many readers will need to find additional sources of information. The article clearly needs to be expanded. Substantial/major editing is needed, most material for a complete article needs to be added. Reliable sources need to be found. Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs
Stub
{{Stub-Class}}
The article is either a very short article or a rough collection of information that will need much work to bring it to A-Class level. The article is usually very short, but may contain a lot of irrelevant lists and other inappropriate material. Possibly useful to someone who has no idea what the term meant. May be useless to a reader only passingly familiar with the term. At best a brief, informed dictionary definition. Any editing or additional material can be helpful. NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup
List
{{List-Class}}
The article is a list of information, not an actual article. While they usually start with "List of...", lists are not confined to articles with just that title. Lists may also contain an introductory paragraph, but the list itself is the most dominating part of the article. This class is for lists that are not of featured quality and will need work to improve it to Featured List status. Can be useful to someone looking for the information listed, but not likely to be useful on a broad scale. Could contain commentary, but may not contain much beyond a basic list. Most editing or additional material can be helpful. Citations are also helpful. List of commercial failures in video gaming
NA
{{NA-Class}}
This is not an article, but can be a disambiguation page or a template. Use this classification for disambiguation pages or other non-article pages that have no content relating to an encyclopedia article. Useful for disambiguation pages, templates, and other non-article pages; all articles, including lists, are never to be assessed as NA-class for any purpose. If more disambiguations are possible, they can be added. Sonic the Hedgehog

[edit] By Importance

For the importance parameter, the following values may be used:

Pages with no value in their importance parameter are filed in Category:Unknown-importance Sega articles and should be assessed as soon as possible. It would be helpful for assessors to please fill in an importance value if they are already assessing an article's quality.

[edit] Importance Scale

Article importance grading scheme
Label Community Impact Types of Articles Relation to Sega Examples

Companies with strong ties to Sega or divisions of Sega, major characters and series, revolutionary games or important games. Articles must be tied in to Sega closely in order to be High-Importance

[edit] Assessment Requests

Whether or not an article has been assessed previously, if you have made improvement to an article, then feel free to list it below for assessment (or reassessment). A reviewer will get to you within a couple of days to take a look. Reviewers, if an article is listed here, please provide some text on that article's talk page explaining why you ranked it the way you did. In order for an article to be FA or GA class, it muss pass the article examinations required by Wikipedia. To be an A-class article, two reviewers must agree. If you agree on A-class, then please place your proposition for A-class below the article and sign your name with four tildes (~).
