Please note that the failure to meet these criteria does not mean an article must be deleted; conversely, the meeting of any of these criteria does not mean that an article must be kept. These are merely rules of thumb which some editors choose to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to keep an article that is on articles for deletion. In particular, players from the early days of rugby cannot meet these criteria as they pre-date the era of first-class rugby. Also, please keep in mind that the article in question must actually document that the criterion is true. It is not enough to make vague claims in the article or rant about person's importance on a talk page or VfD page -- the article itself must document notability. |

[edit] Article style guideWhilst naming and editing rugby union-related articles, editors often encounter recurring questions of style. Project Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union/Participants have agreed to the following style guidelines to keep a consistent look and feel to rugby union articles throughout Wikipedia. Rugby union shall be written in lower case, such as rugby union, except when starting a sentence, such as in this one. See the rugby union discussion page for more information. Also see wikipedia naming conventions, for naming articles.
[edit] Positional templatesIt is encouraged that instead of directly linking a rugby union position to Rugby union positions, the link is replaced by the appropriate template. This is so that if in the future a section heading is renamed, or an article split off then only the template needs to be updated, not several hundred articles. For plurals; if an s simply needs to be amended, then place it directly outside the template. Consensus has been reached between the project members (see here) that such lists are unencyclopaedic, and are not suitable in the article. Such lists create problems with duplication, and article size. Instead, templates such as {{rugby07}} should be added that link to a teams competitions. For example the 'end of year tests', Tri-nations, or Six Nations. Consensus among project members has been reached that such information as tournament or trophy victories should be included in the article, and certain cases (such as the Rugby World Cup) the team's infbox. [edit] Summarise and linkParticularly when writing history of rugby union, be careful not to duplicate information. The standard way to deal with possibly duplicate information is to keep one major source of that information and wherever else it is useful, summarise and link to it, in the following manner.

However, it may be that yours is a complicated subject and for the reader to get the whole picture with as little reading as possible, it is recommended you write light paragraphs that link to the relevant articles in the text.
