Wikipedia:WikiProject Reference Investigation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The WikiProject Reference Investigation is a WikiProject founded on April 10, 2006 as a way to verify which sources are up to snuff. There are certain references one may use, whether it be on the Internet or a published jornal. It is the duty of WikiProject Reference Investigation to make sure certain sources are allowable. This way, Wikipedia can relax with the knowledge that the sources they are using are allowable.

In addition to investigating a particular source, WikiProject Reference Investigation can inspect the specific sources used on a page. When this happens, we can state on the article's talk page that the sources of the article are under investigation by the WikiProject Reference Investigation. However, our larger focus is determining how viable certain sources are.

[edit] Investigations

To start an investigation, on the topic of the subsection(below this notice), after a bullet (*), link to your investigation by typing [[/Name of investigation]]. For example, if we were investigating Encyclopædia Britannica, you would type [[/Encyclopædia Britannica]] . If you wish to start an investigation on an individual article, say Exploding whale, type [[/Exploding whale article]].

Once you've saved the page, follow the redlink to make a new page. Write your reason for wanting an investigation, then sign it with ~~~~. Let other people in the project know (via the list) by leaving a message on the talk page. The investigation has begun!

What we're looking for really depends on WP:V. More specific details will come as this project develops.

Once investigations have been closed, they should be moved to the closed investigation section, along with a summary of the final decision.
