[edit] Conventions
- In biographies, the subject should be identified as a Puerto Rican if he/she is born in the island or if the subject is born to Puerto Rican parents, regardless of place of birth.
- Accentuation: use accents if the name of the article is either officially or commonly known with the accentuation (for example Mayagüez), including biographies of persons who use them when spelling their name.
- Spanish words: These should be italicized and properly accentuated, followed by an English translation (in parentheses) the first time the word appears in an article.
- Titles of articles with Spanish names: These should be translated to English, whenever possible, immediately followed by their official Spanish name in italic, unless:
- The subject matter is a work of, or theme related to art, including paintings, music, dances, books, poems, etc. (for example La Danza),
- As stated above, the Spanish name has no literal translation to English (for example Tembleque),
- The subject matter is known almost exclusively by its Spanish name, even in English speaking countries (for example Tren Urbano).
[edit] Goals
- To create a body of articles that accurately depicts the history and culture of Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans.
- To highlight Puerto Rico's relationships and/or bringings to the rest of the world.
- To standardize articles on Puerto Rico or Puerto Rican subjects. They should have similar layouts, formatting, etev.
- To include all relevant information, making especially certain to include the voices of children, women, the poor, people of all races, and basically all the rest of the Puerto Rican society (providing the info. is sourced, of course).
- To standardize the use of Spanish-language terms, names, and translations into English across the series.
[edit] Projects
List projects to be done here:

I would like to pay a small tribute in this edition to Tony "the Marine". Editing since May 24, 2004, he has been one of our project's most active editors and has become one of Wikipedia's most recognized writers. He has authored over 400 articles, including 4 Featured Articles, 1 Featured List, 10 Good Articles, and 28 DYKs. His name has appeared in newspapers and magazines and has been mentioned by politicians and artists. He has brought Puerto Rico's history and its people to the web. He has shown the world that Puerto Ricans have done much more than just be gangsters and drug dealers. He has shown the world that we have contributed to history and the world just as much as any other group of people. On September 29, 2007, Tony announced that he would not be writing for Wikipedia anymore. We, the members of this project, are sad that he will not be able to continue to spread the word of Hispanics' contributions here on the web, but I, for one, feel honored that he has entrusted us with the duty of continuing and improving his excellent work. Tony, rest assured that your contributions, your wisdom, and the help you provided to all of us when we were new users will be remembered for generations. Que Dios te bendiga, Tony, y que tu recompensa sea grande en el Reino de los Cielos. Viva Puerto Rico libre. —Agüeybaná 16:52, 30 September 2007 (UTC) |
