Wikipedia:WikiProject Plant Evo Devo

Please see the discussion page for current tasks
The main page for this project is Plant evo devo
[edit] Goals
- Should provide comprehensive information on evolution of plant form. Comparative studies form core.
- Should span all levels of plant development and interactions - ecological, physiological and molecular.
- Should NOT be redundant with topics on Plant Development. The focus is on comparative analyses. If necessary, such entries be separately created or updated.

[edit] Rough outline of areas
1) Early thinking on plant evolution and evolution of plant form
- Plant morphology should have information about historical thinking on the evolution of plant architecture as well as modern findings of meristem influence on leaf gap formation.
- Stele (biology) - former thought on transformational morphology.
- Morphometrics & Allometry
- Evolutionary history of plants.
2) Use of model and non-model systems
- Information about genes and gene networks involved in plant development
(Information is currently scattered. For eg: see MADS-box, KNOX (genes))
- Different genome projects, EST data available.
(Plant EST databases and their information has been under-represented in discussions. See Expressed sequence tag)
- Model organisms - e.g. Arabidopsis thaliana, Maize
3) Information from comparative studies on various organ architectures
- Comparison between different plant phyla, esp pteridophytes, gymnosperms, angiosperms.
- Leaf shape, venation
- Meristem architectures across phylogeny, molecular aspects
- Roots, any comparative studies on root architectures, root-symbiont interactions etc.
- Flower architecture. The Floral Genome Project is churning out data, and that has been incompletely represented here.
- Chloroplasts evolution. Currently present as an incomplete entries in Photosynthesis, Endosymbiont and Oxygen evolution. Quite a lot of interesting data is missing.
- Evolution of gene families involved with development - MADS-box, KNOX etc.
- Genetic and developmental models - The ABC Model of Flower Development
- Comparative analyses of the physiological properties of plants
For eg: Secondary metabolite production is less descriptive. Plus there's comparative information on evolution of these features available.
- MicroRNAs in development
4) Ecological evo-devo studies
- Plant-Pollinator interactions
- Polyploidy
Although entries for these exist, a developmental perspective is either missing or has not been an area of focus.
Anything else I may be missing out.
