[edit] Guidelines

[edit] Episode article format

The episode articles have been merged into List of Invader Zim episodes, When recreating the articles, they need to prove that they should exist so the format is very important. Due to the fact that each episode has commentary on the DVDs and the quantity of interviews with the creators, it should be possible to get most of the episode articles up to a good standard. The following are some guidelines from WP:EPISODE for what to include to making a good episode article:

  • A brief summary of the episode's plot
  • The episode's relevance in ongoing story arcs, if any
  • How the episode was received by critics
  • Information on production and broadcasting of the episode

The following is a guide to writing an episode article based on the criteria:

  • {{Television}}: The television infobox
  • First paragraph: Introduce the episode as an episode of Invader Zim. Include details such as production number, air date and guest stars. Point out other notable details. E.g. "This episode is the 3rd double length episode of the series."
  • Plot: Per the Episode Guidelines, just a brief summary of the plot.
  • Production notes and relevence : Include significant production details, conflicts with the network etc.. Also include how the episode ties into the rest of the series.
  • Reception: Add reviews and comments from reliable sources. Make sure sources like the DVD commentary, external websites are cited. Avoid original theories.
  • References: {{reflist}} is recommended.
  • {{Wikiquote|Invader Zim}}. Not always essential but useful for episodes with many memorable quotes.
  • {{InvaderZimEpisodeNav}}

See the episode The Nightmare Begins for an example of an article using this guide. To recreate a redirected article, use the history feature to get it back to the state it was in. Be warned that any new articles without reliable out of universe sources are likely to be redirected to the episode list once more.

[edit] Script references

The following format is recommended when referencing the script:

This:

<ref>'''Name''' (''detail''): "Dialogue." (''[[episode name]]'')</ref>

Produces this:

Name (detail): "Dialogue." (episode name)

For example:

Zim (On hearing the doorbell): "but the security system should have warned me as soon as anyone set foot in the perimeter." (Plague of Babies)

When using this on an episode article, the episode name can be left off if it's from the same one. The detail part can also be left out if it's not necessary.

When citing more than one line of dialogue such as an interaction between characters, use the following:

Zim (Discovering the soap is bacon): "Why was there bacon in the soap?" GIR: "I made it myself!" (Rise of the Zitboy)

Citing the audio commentary on the DVDs can also be done this way. Don't forget to create a reference section at the bottom of the article. This format is not for general quoting of the episodes and is only meant for references.

[edit] Trivia and quotes

Trivia and quotes sections should be avoided. Trivia sections should be worked into the rest of the article with non notable information removed completely. Tagging trivia sections with {{trivia}} will discourage any further trivia being added until somebody removes the section. Quotes sections can be removed (including the heading) and replaced with this template {{wikiquote|Invader Zim}}.
