Wikipedia:WikiProject Mixed martial arts/Article improvement drive
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mixed Martial Arts article improvement drive is part of the WikiProject on Mixed Martial Arts and is a periodic collaboration to improve mixed martial arts articles to featured article status. Past collaborations are found on the history page, while removed nominations may be found on the removed nominations page. Previous winners that have gone on to become featured articles can be found at Featured collaborations.
Nomination and voting
Articles to be improved can be nominated by registered users in the "nominations" section below, with an explanation of what work is needed. To nominate an article, you can copy the template that you will below. Please do not nominate articles involved in edit wars. At the end of a voting period, the article with the most support votes is chosen. Opposing votes are not counted, the nomination is an approval voting. In case of a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins. You can vote for as many articles as you like. As with any other vote on Wikipedia, sockpuppets are banned.
Renominating
An article that is removed from the nominations list for failing to receive the required number of votes by the stipulated date cannot be renominated in the following nomination period.
The project currently possesses no Featured Articles. |
Considerations for nominations
- Giving reasons as to why an article should become the MMA AID may convince others to cast their vote.
- Can the wider MMA/fightsports community easily contribute to the article? Or is it something only a small number of people will know about?

[edit] PRIDE Fighting Championships
Reason: PRIDE is considered the world's biggest promotion and the article is in a shockingly terrible state. People do their best and try to make changes but a rapid and expansive overhaul is in order and that can only be done through a collaborative effort. So many people are passionate about this promotion and there is a wealth of sourceable information. Support:

[edit] World Combat League
Reason: This is a new event and it needs some support to get this page going. I've added as much info as I can, but I'm not that great at the formatting or getting it added to categories. If you need to have your heartstrings tugged, part of the proceeds of the WCL go to charity. Check it out!! Support:
World Combat League athletes highlight the best of Mixed Martial Arts -well-conditioned, exciting professional CMA (Combat Martial Arts) fighters. In an effort to encourage consistent "full throttle" fighting action, our team presentation only requires each athlete to compete in two, three minute fights with a significant rest period in between. This allows them to fight at a pace unprecedented in combat sports. No "sticking and moving," no "jab and grab," just "pedal to the metal" fighting action. Even the judge's scoring system and the referee's penalty point system is designed to reward this "full throttle" style of fighting and penalize any attempt to stall or fight passively. Both teams will enter the ring and stand with each team member facing their opponent. The referee will administer the pre-fight instructions and execute the "coin toss". The coach of the team who wins the coin toss is allowed to select which fighter will start the contest. If for example, the coach chooses his middleweight, then he and the opposing team's middleweight will stay in the ring while the remaining fighters retire to the "fighter's pen" (a warm-up area close to the ring). At the end of each fight the judge's scores will be announced, and added to the total points awarded from the previous fights. Referee awarded penalty points are added to the cumulative score when they occur. When each of the team's athletes have completed their first-half fights, the event breaks for "half-time". During half-time the coaches will advise their team members on a strategy for improving their performance in the second-half. When the action resumes, each original match-up (that did not result in a KO or TKO) is again contested to conclude the second half. The team that has the most cumulative points when the final fight is concluded is crowned the winner. WCL events feature CMA (Combat Martial Arts) extreme action. It's all about STRIKING: Kicking, Punching and Kneeing (think of it as "KARATE FOR THE NEW MILLENIA"). There is no holding, clinching, throwing, grappling or wrestling. If a fighter lacks spirit, or tries to slow the pace of the fight down by holding or avoiding, his team will immediately be penalized (points awarded to the opposing team). Each fight within the team contest only lasts for three minutes, so each CMA fighter needs to "burn rubber" in order to earn as many points for their team as possible. Three judges score each fight based on knockdowns, extent of damage inflicted, and the volume of clean-scoring strikes landed. Each judge will award five points to the fighter they see as superior, and four or less points to the opponent. The judges points are combined at the end of each fight (15 points maximum, not counting penalties), and are then added to the teams overall total from the previous fights. The team with the most points at the end of the second half wins. |

[edit] Randy CoutureReason: Could easily be improved by working on collecting references for the majority of the article. This would be a good start for some newer participants. Support:

[edit] Chuck Liddell
Reason: Chuck Liddell is one of the more well-known names of Mixed Martial Arts (they even mentioned him on CSI once...) It's probably a very frequently visited article. He has a substantial amount of material related to his fighting career and work outside of fighting. A collaboration to organize of all of this into a good article would could set the example all other fighter biographies.
