Wikipedia:WikiProject Metalworking/Article list

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

List of the metalworking articles I could find. Note this list specifically does not include welding, metallurgy, metals or alloys, or blacksmithing terms/tools. (although I'm sure a few articles have made it in). Welding is already rather well developed, and needs little work. Metallurgy is an entire project in its own, so I figure we should just link to/from it a few times. A list of metals and common alloys encountered in machining would be good, but as an article, not a category (imho). Blacksmithing is something I'm very unfamilar with, and didn't see much of.

This is probably the last automagically generated list; future ones should be manually updated. PLEASE add any articles to this list as well as to Category:Metalworking or wherever else you add them! Bushytails 23:45, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

I figure once we have a complete list, we can start on the category structure, then copy+paste items from the list into the proposed category structure and strike them out on the big list, to keep track of what's left that hasn't been sorted, etc.

I'm checking pages I move onto this list to make sure they're what they sound like, and giving them a quick check to see if they belong on the attention needing list... while you don't have to do this to sort them, it may save time later. Bushytails 20:18, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

Sorted list: (remove articles from above unsorted list, put them here... be bold! reorganize categories, etc if you see a better way to do things!)

[edit] Metalworking hand tools

Category:Metalworking hand tools

Please see Cutting Tools for hand saws.
Please see Drill and Threading for hand tools related to those topics.

[edit] Machining

Please see Drilling and Threading for more machining related topics.

::*Misc - (needs a better title, or perhaps just left as groupless machines) probably just under "machining". Bushytails Agreed, groupless they shall be Graibeard 16:20, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Casting

Category:Casting

[edit] Welding

Category:Welding

  • Related (List of welding terms)

[edit] Metallurgy

Category:Metallurgy

(might be better to make a sub-project, or at least do last, as it's very large, and doesn't coincide too much with metalworking)
  • Materials
  • Listing has been expanded from Category:Metallurgy but is currently commented out, existing might be duped Graibeard 08:54, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Comments

Hrmm, should we have each article exist in a unique place on the tree, with pointers of where else to see other articles that might be related (simple, easy), or should we put articles in every relevant category? probably easier to do one-category-only at first, then sort later?
