From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello WikiProject Massively multiplayer online games/RuneScape/templates, and thank you for your contributions to the RuneScape series of articles. While your edits are greatly appreciated, they have had to be changed or removed, as they went into too much detail about the subject. A level of detail that assumes readers are already a player of RuneScape or have extensive knowledge of the subject is outside of Wikipedia's mandate and is often called fancruft by other editors. Some articles in the RuneScape series have even been deleted on the grounds of containing too much fancruft.

It is important to remember that:

In short, fancruft includes things like:

  • Pricing information
  • Quests, quest rewards, quest guides or instructions, or names of specific quests
  • Skill guides, instructions for how to use and perform a skill, or level requirements.
  • Lengthy, detailed descriptions of items, or even names of specific items.

How to avoid fancruft:

  • Instead of giving a specific price — which is subject to change anyway — state general facts without using game terminology. For example, instead of saying, "Rares sell for over 100 mil gp," say, "Certain discontinued items, or "rares", often sell for very large amounts of gold."
  • Do not list or explain specific quests, skills, or items.

Instead, use inline citations, linking to the relevant RuneScape knowledge base article.

Please do not be put off by this: RuneScape and related pages still need work! Also, your great knowledge of this subject is more than welcome at the RuneScape wiki, a version of Wikipedia devoted only to the topic of RuneScape, written for players, and going into a much higher level of detail.

Happy editing!

Usage: {{subst:rsfancruft|name of article|~~~~}}. Do not sign outside the template, as your signature is already the second parameter, and doing so would make your signature appear twice. Place on the user talk pages of editors who write too detailed information about RuneScape, but who have already received a welcome message. Note that this template does not include a welcome message.
