The Assessment Unit of WikiProject Malta aims to assess all articles related to Malta, based on a decided and common quality scale. This is to further categorise and better organise Malta-related articles, to give a rating in which to work with, and generally assess how an article is progressed and how it might possibly be bettered. It also allows WikiProject malta to see what articles may need improving, expanding or rewriting altogether.

the assessment in articles is derived from the class perameter (paramaters are defined by a separatory banner, which | is used as) in the {{WikiProject Malta}} banner added to all articles relating to Malta.

eg: {{WikiProject Malta|class=FA}} when added to a talk page would generate:

and therefore serve to rate the article as FA status (additionally, the article's talk would be added to Category:FA-Class Malta articles.

The class values used are:

  • FA - the highest (only applicable to an article which has been accepted by the community as a Featured Article)
  • A - 2nd best, almost FA standard
  • GA - (only applicable to an article which has been reviewed and promoted to GA status)
  • B - below GA, better than Start
  • Start - not a stub, but still needs much work before FA or even A status.
  • Stub - the lowest possible rating.

Below is the quality scale, explaining in depth what each of these class tags corresponds to in quality terms, as well as providing an example of an article which befits each of the quality assessment ratings

Featured article FA Reserved for articles that meet the featured article criteria and have received featured article status after community review. Approved by a majority vote after being requested at Featured article candidates None identified yet, but the article on Malta itself is definitely has the potential!
A Articles here are expected to largely meet the featured article criteria, and must be comprehensive, accurate, well-sourced, and well-written; however, they may require some further copyediting. May almost be as good as featured, but just not quite there. Ask at the project talk page Malta (GA as well)
Good article GA Reserved for articles that meet the good article criteria and have received good article status. Aprroved at Good article nominations by a random reviewer Malta (again) (A class by one wikiproject as well)
B The article meets the following five criteria:
  1. Well referenced, with a good number of inline citations if possible.
  2. It reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain major omissions or inaccuracies.
  3. It has a defined structure, including a lead section and one or more sections of content.
  4. It is free from major grammatical errors.
  5. It contains appropriate supporting materials, such as an infobox, images, or diagrams.
 Class may be assigned by any reviewer Culture of Malta (currently a GA candidate)
Start The article has a meaningful amount of good content, but it is still weak in many areas, and may lack a key element; it has at least one serious element of gathered materials, including any one of the following:
  • A particularly useful picture or graphic (if possible)
  • Multiple links that help explain or illustrate the topic
  • A subheading that fully treats an element of the topic
  • Multiple subheadings that indicate material that could be added to complete the article
 Class may be assigned by any reviewer Maltese people
Stub The article is either a very short article and lacking in content or a rough collection of information that will need much work to bring it to A-Class level. It is usually very short, but can be of any length if the material is irrelevant or incomprehensible. Class may be assigned by any reviewer Music of Malta


[edit] Importance Scale

An article can also be assessed on how important the subject is in the scope of WikiProject Malta. For instance, the article on Malta is very important to the scope of the project, and so is rated Top importance. The article on Luzzu, which is a type of boat, is not very important, and som is rated Low importance. While this is definitely an important element of assessment, it does not necessarily reflect how good an article is, and even a Low importance article can be a featured Article if it is good enough.

Label Criteria Examples
Top Core topics about Malta. Generally, these topics are sub-articles of the main Malta article, vital for the understanding of Malta or extremely notable to people outside of the nation. This category should stay limited to approximately 50 of the most important articles. Biographies should be limited to the top one or two Maltese in a particular field or persons of the greatest historical importance only. Malta, Culture of Malta, Valleta
High Topics that are very notable within Malta, and well-known outside of it, and can be reasonably expected to be included in any print encyclopedia. This includes fairly large cities etc. Armed Forces of Malta, Music of Malta, Maltese cuisine
Mid Topics that are reasonably notable on a national level within Malta without necessarily being famous or very notable internationally, including smaller towns Law enforcement in Malta, St. Paul's Bay
