[edit] Scope and motivation
This WikiProject aims primarily to provide information in consistent format for articles on places in, or related to London. On top of this, it aims to get the main London article to featured status, whilst aiding the maintenance and improvement of the London Portal.
- Greater London is one of the world's historic conurbations with a population of more than 10 million. This is spread across a large area with varying structures and geo-political boundaries, and it is important that these unique structures are linked and explained where necessary.
- The London area is formed through countless urban villages and small towns, and each of these villages and towns has its own identity to be described and explained in the Wikipedia.
- London is home of some of the cultural treasures of the world, such as the British Library and the British Museum, as well as four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Like much of London, these areas are of historical importance, and require suitable articles.
- London is also the home of three great public transport networks of historic importance: the bus, tube, and railway networks. These should be cross-linked into the other London articles (see also Wikipedia:WikiProject Underground).

[edit] Naming conventions
[edit] Templates
A number of edits have bastardized the London Boroughs infobox and produced delinked and non-standard ones without adding any extra info or functions (Corrected on Westminster, K&C, Lambeth and Kingston).
[edit] Creation of articles
[edit] Done
- A shedload of small articles on London places have been auto-generated to create a trellis of linked pre-stub articles about places in London, and merged into existing content.
- The List of places in London have been edited with the correct London borough names for each of these.
- The List of districts of London has now been split off from this list, and greatly expanded with information mined from article infoboxes.
- The main London postal district article has been created, expanded and linked to relevant sub-articles.
- The London Portal has achieved featured portal status.
[edit] To do
- Expand the sub-articles relating to the London postal districts, which should all be cross-linked to the articles describing the places in that postal district.
- Articles on notable London tourist attractions such as Trafalgar Square should be put in the same format as other London place articles.
- Maintenance of London Portal
- Vote for next month's showcase article and showcase picture for the London portal.
- Filling in the remaining information in the List of districts of London, and checking it against primary sources, correcting it and also updating corresponding infoboxes where wrong.

[edit] Substance
[edit] Done
- The main London article has achieved good article status.
- Articles exist for all 32 London boroughs using the borough's official name (usually "London Borough of X").
- Several London-related articles have achieved featured status (see Portal:London/London on Wikipedia).
[edit] To do
- The main London article needs to achieve featured status.
- The London borough articles need improving, and should have the same structure.
- Every locality needs at least a 500-character stub article, built on top of its framework article.
- All areas of historic importance need substantial articles.
- Every London Underground line, and the DLR, should have an article of the same level of quality of, say, the East London Line article, but the list of stations should be the same quality as the Central Line.
- Schools of London need to have their own pages, with at least 500 words. The Greater London and City of London sections in List of schools in the United Kingdom also need to be completed, and all London schools should be properly categorised within Category:Schools in London.
- A number of tourist attractions such as Museums and Art Galleries need to be improved, especially the National Portrait Gallery and the Science Museum
- {{London stations}} needs to be added to all London station articles (tube/rail/DLR)
