[edit] Goals
The goal of this project is to organize the efforts of those working on articles about and concerning the sport of lacrosse, including both field and box / indoor lacrosse.
[edit] Different kinds of lacrosse
- There is already a page for box lacrosse, which also includes indoor lacrosse. Field lacrosse does not have its own page -- the lacrosse page describes field lacrosse, with a link to the box page.
[edit] Leagues
- All professional or highest level of play lacrosse leagues should have pages describing (or at least listing) the teams, former teams, champions and past champions, awards, etc. Some of these may be on separate pages.
- List of pro or top-tier leagues:
- Major League Lacrosse (field)
- National Lacrosse League (indoor)
- Western Lacrosse Association (box; Senior A)
- Major Series Lacrosse (box; Senior A)
- Australian Lacrosse League (field)
[edit] Teams
- All teams should have pages, including years of existence, championships won, any franchise movement, etc.
[edit] Players
- Player pages should include the year(s) that the player has played, which team(s) he/she played for (in as many leagues as possible), and should include stats (at least for NLL and MLL) if possible.
- There is now an infobox ({{Infobox Lacrosse Player}}) that should be used on all player pages
- Any participation in international lacrosse should be mentioned as well.
[edit] Other
- We should have pages on all of the different tournaments and championships - Mann Cup, Minto Cup, NCAA, Heritage Cup, other international tournaments. Some of these already exist.
[edit] Assessment class
The assessment system allows the WikiProject to monitor the quality of articles in its subject areas, and to prioritize work on these articles. The following guidelines can help to determine what class should be assigned to an article. The class should be filled in on the "class" parameter of the {{Lacrosse}} template on the article's talk page.
For further details, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Lacrosse/Assessment.
[edit] Stub
A Stub-class article is possibly useful to someone who is not familiar with the subject of the article. It may be useless to a reader who is passingly familiar with the subject. The article does not meet criteria for Start class.
In addition to filling in the class parameter of the lacrosse template, please place the {{lacrosse-stub}} template at the bottom of the article, just above the categories.
See also: Category:Lacrosse stubs
[edit] NA
A class of "NA" should be used for non-articles, such as categories, infoboxes, userboxes, etc.
[edit] Image
A class of "Image" should be used for all lacrosse images.
Note that logos (teams, leagues, etc.) require a "Fair use" tag and rationale. Here's the page from Image:BaltimoreThunder.gif as an example:
{{Non-free logo|lacrosse-logos}}
{{Non-free media rationale
|Description=Logo of the Baltimore Thunder lacrosse team (now defunct)
|Source=http://www.logoserver.com/MILLNLL.html
|Portion=The team no longer exists (moved to Pittsburgh in 1999, subsequently to Washington and then Colorado), unknown who the copyright holder is
|Purpose=Team logo, used on uniforms, promotional material, etc.
|Resolution=No (small, low-resolution image)
|Replaceability=Not replaceable
}}
[[Category:Sports logos]]
[edit] Start
A Start-class article for players has a reasonably complete infobox, including a list of all current and former pro teams, and at least some statistics if possible. A short description of the player's career should also be included (i.e. something more than "<name> is a professional lacrosse player").
A Start-class article for teams should also have a reasonably complete infobox, including any and all franchise movement, and some text describing years of existence, championships, and other notable facts.
If the article meets these criteria, remove the stub tag, if any, and change the class parameter on the talk page to "start".
[edit] B-class
A B-class article has a fairly complete listing of details, and has had its text expanded.
It should include everything listed for Start-class, but also as complete an infobox as possible. For players, the article should include full stats for all professional leagues. For teams, win-loss records for each season of existence should be included.
The text should be more than one paragraph. A casual reader should learn something about the subject, including (for players) things like movement from team to team (i.e. trades, free-agent signings, etc.), awards won, and other lacrosse involvement (eg. international competition, college, etc.).
An article may be rated at B-class if it meets these criteria, even if other problems exist, such as needing substantial editing for English language usage and/or clarity or lack of references, but such problems should be tagged.
[edit] Good Article, A and Featured Article classes
These classes are reserved for the best of Wikipeida articles. They should not be assigned by an author.
Good Article: The article has passed through the Good article nomination process and been granted GA status, meeting the good article standards.
A-class: Provides a well-written, reasonably clear and complete description of the topic, as described in How to write a great article. Should go through Peer-review.
Featured Article: Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Featured article" status, and meet the current criteria for featured articles.
[edit] Open tasks
Expand the box lacrosse page the box and indoor lacrosse pages into one "box lacrosse" pageDone --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 01:00, 9 September 2006 (UTC)- Pull field lacrosse out of the lacrosse page into its own page, and rewrite the lacrosse page to be more general
- Expand existing articles on MLL teams
- Create new and expand existing articles on Canadian summer box lacrosse (i.e. WLA, MSL, OLA). The OLA, WLA, and MSL pages need to be expanded,
and many WLA/MSL teams don't have pages at alland also expand the WLA/MSL team pages (history, records, etc.). All NLL teams use a {{NLL Team Infobox}}. MLL teams should have a similar template available, rather than embedding the source in each article.Done --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 03:08, 8 September 2006 (UTC)- Create article for Dr. William George Beers (a famous contributer to the game). [1]

[edit] Roster templates
They were originally copied from {{fs start}} et al, but those templates are specific to soccer, and they linked the positions to pages about the soccer positions. There was also no "transition" position, and the soccer term "goalkeeper" is usually "goaltender" in lacrosse. I removed the links so now you can put in any position you want. We can add the links again later if we want, since these are now lacrosse-specific.
