Contents

This project has been created in an attempt to improve existing articles relating to Ireland, and to help with the creation of needed articles. It aims primarily to provide information in consistent format for articles on places in, or related to Ireland. On top of this, it aims to get the main Ireland article to featured status, whilst aiding the maintenance and improvement of the Ireland Portal.

Articles and categories relating to Ireland are extensive and work needs to be/is being done across a multitude of areas. In order to gain the benefits of collaboration, please update this page with any relevant "to do’s.

[edit] Major pending tasks

[edit] Done

  1. Modify WPI template so that it follows the hierarchy structure found in Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia.

[edit] To Do

To-do list for Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland:
  1. Add the {{WikiProject Ireland}} template to all Ireland-related articles' talk pages, without engaging in too much templatomania.
    1. N.B. - please do not substitute the template, as any future changes to the template will not be updated automatically. On top of this, a substituted inclusion will not appear on the list of links that provides a gauge for the size of the WikiProject and ultimately all articles within the WikiProject (and does not include any non-relevant pages).
  2. Insert templates on talk pages of Ireland-related articles referring to new MOS (yet to be created) page.
  3. Create project space Manual of Style article and template.
  4. Implement a guidance template to direct users to all the relevant pages (as per WP:WPF).
  5. Implement a "Series on Ireland" template along the lines of {{Christianity}}.
  6. Create a map of all Roman catholic Dioceses in Ireland.
  7. Get the Republic of Ireland article to FA standard.
  8. Get all Articles on counties to FA standard.

  2. To improve the standard of articles relating to Ireland in general.
  3. To standardise many article types so that there is some measure of consistancy throughout.
  4. To examine the number of red-links in articles within the scope, and to determine if they should be de-linked, or that articles should be created.

[edit] Done

[edit] To do

  • The main Dublin article needs to achieve featured status.
  • Every locality needs at least a 500-character stub article, built on top of its framework article.
  • All areas of historic importance need substantial articles.
  • The article on the Mahon Tribunal needs to be tidied up, verified, and fact-checked.

[edit] Ireland articles that have been tagged with templates

To list individual Ireland related articles need images fill in the "image-needed" parameter in the project tag {{WikiProject Ireland}} on the article talk page and it will be listed here

[edit] Tagged with WPIE template

For a complete list of the progress in tagging Irish related articles with the project template, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/Assessment and their current statistics.
Since July 2007, when 1,044 articles were tagged and many were unassessed or classified, much work has been done and as of 19 March 2008, 12,705 articles were tagged with none being unassessed and around 1,000 being unclassified, most being stubs. By 6 May 2008, 20,180 articles had been tagged, of which only were unassessed or unclassified.

The following Ireland-related topics can be turned into an encyclopaedic article called List of Irish topics which is part of

Category:Topic lists.

[edit] Projects

  1. Compile a list of missing articles and catalogue them by status - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/Missing articles

Possibly the wrong place, but some of the contributors may want to take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Gaelic Games. It's not getting a large amount of attention apart from the contributions of Gnevin, Derry Boi, and myself. Pauric 22:55, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tasks

  • To Do List
  1. Invite new members, by contacting editors who have made substantial Ireland-related edits in the past
  2. Fix templates to talk pages
  3. Construct /Article Classification by following the category 'tree'
  4. Assess articles at /Article Classification

[edit] Adopt an article

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.

[edit] Collaboration of the week

[1] I nominated Taney Parish, or is this section inactive?? (Sarah777 18:19, 12 August 2007 (UTC))

Seconded, an interesting, genuinely informative and apparently comprehensive piece, ready to be taken to the next level. 217.118.66.40 14:46, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Having checked what "COTW" is, maybe not: collaboration of the week - "The aim is to produce featured-standard articles, through widespread cooperative editing. This project aims to fill holes in Wikipedia, so only non-existent articles, or stubs may be nominated. If the article does not fit these guidelines, it should be placed on the Article Improvement Drive for further expansion and improvement.
That said, an example of an article on a focused topic which would be good to take to FA standard. Only 17 FA in all Ireland? 217.118.66.40 14:49, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Requests

"Please post requests at Wikiproject Ireland/Requests

I'm seeking an image for the article on the Clonard monastic site which I created this evening. If anyone lives nearby and can take some illustrative snapshots (with the understanding that there's not much there), I'd be grateful. I'm awaiting a response from the presumed rightsholder on a nice aerial photo I found. Dppowell 04:12, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm hoping I can get a few people to help out on the County Louth article. I've been trying to reference the claims that some people have a real major problem with it is still something of a victim of constant revisions. I'm also hoping we can get a bit more info on the page too. Dan K 19:53, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
