Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument [2] Top March 21, 2008 B A B-class article. Could use a good list of the major species of animals and plants in the monument, especially the ones found nowhere else. Also necessary is a brief overview of the islands in the monument, with a focus on ecology. Nothing too in-depth, leave that for NWHI. This article's focus is the monument, whereas the other article's focus is the islands themselves. French Frigate Shoals [3] Top March 21, 2008 Start This could be a very expansive article, so I'm keeping it's current status at "Start" class. Ecology section is good, but the history section could be more comprehensive. Info about each of the individual islands in the reef is needed. The section on the airport could be alot bigger to include its history and current status, and stuff about the LORAN station on Tern Island needs to be added. Needs more than just one sentence about La Perouse Pinnacle. If there were any shipwrecks throughout the years here that are not mentioned already, they need to be added. Kure Atoll [4] High March 21, 2008 Start Needs elaboration in the Geological History Section. There were quite a few shipwrecks here throughout the years, detailed information on all of them should be inserted. An Ecology section needs to be made, which should have the "plastic toys killing birds" bits in it, along with any other relevant info. Laysan Finch [6] Mid March 21, 2008 B Needs info on population, and distribution information that is as specific as possible. Needs info on the bird's "song" or call, and if information is available, the bird's conservation status over the years and how it has changed, and which efforts are being made to preserve it still. Lisianski Island [8] Top Marh 21, 2008 Start Needs to be divided into sections. We can go much more in-depth about the islands discovery and the subsequent voyages to it by explorers afterwards. Also, in the history section we can add info about the rabbits that were introduced here from Laysan, and the Japanese bird poachers that came here circa 1904. Midway Atoll [9] Top March 21, 2008 B 0.5 B-class article approaching Good-article status (I would think). Geology and WWII/pre-WWII history is great. I would like to see, however, more history from WWII to the present. What is life like now, to the few who still live and work here? Give more details about the eco-tourism thing initaited recently. Also crucially important is an ecology section, which this article doesn't have, despite Midway being one of the key breeding grounds for many seabirds, including the Laysan Albatross, of which millions flock each year to hatch and raise their young. Necker Island [10] Top May 28, 2007 Start Needs a detailed account of its discovery by Europeans, and all exploratory voyages thereafter, including the Tanager Expedition. An ecology section needs to be created with all relevant species of plants and animals here. Also, much more needs to be said about the stone structures on the island.   • The geology section needs to be clearer if not a bit larger, and tied in with a map. The Prehistoric Human Habitation section needs to be alot larger to include as much info that can be found. Early Exploration section needs to be more in-depth concerning the voyages made to it, and should include excerpts from the ships' logs if possible. Pearl and Hermes Atoll [14] Top June 1, 2007 Start First of all, separate into sections: Intro, then history, then ecology. History needs to include discovery, all subsequent explorations and/or shipwrecks, exploitation by pearl fishers, and subsequent conservation attempts. Maro Reef [17] Mid December 13, 2006 Stub Of all the NWHI, Maro Reef is the most looked-over and ignored in terms of sources and documentation, so we have to take what we can get. Ostensibly should have a history, geology, and ecology section just like the others, but its a coral reef, not really an island. If need be, geology and ecology sections will be one.
