[edit] Structure
Sub-sections:
-
- A lot of overlap; includes Kings, Dynasties, History of church, Literature, provinces, etc.
-
- See /Transliteration for transliteration issues; Can include languages in Eritrea out of simplicity, but see Wikipedia:WikiProject Eritrea for more specific discussion on Eritrean languages.
-
- Includes music, food, dress, traditions, ethnicity; some overlaps with history (religion, literature, etc.)
[edit] Hierarchy definition
No classification of this project has been defined.
[edit] Goals
- To bring up every /Key article to Good, and then Featured article status.
- To create a /Transliteration system to be used for all articles concerning Ethiopia (and Eritrea) and a common way of adding the Ge'ez script version (when applicable) and transliteration to an article.
[edit] Projects
- Improve Key articles:
- Ethiopia (obviously)
- Languages of Ethiopia (expand to more than a list - i.e. add some text)
- People of Ethiopia (i.e. description of ethnicities & ethnic interactions over the centuries - also some genetics and origins discussion)
- Geography of Ethiopia (already substantial - some copy-editing can get it to GA or even FA)
- Politics of Ethiopia (can discuss historically, from Fetha Negest (also an important and potential GA) to 1931 constitution, centralization, issues w/ feudalism & land reform, up to ethnic federalism today - a lot to talk about)
- History of Ethiopia (needs to be trimmed down and made into a more flowing narrative - Solomonic, Gondarine & modern sections need some expansion).
- Kingdom of Aksum (section into history, archaeology, architecture, culture, etc. & expand a lot)
- Invasion of Ahmed Gragn
- Ethiopian Civil War (late 1970s-1994) (barely a stub)
- 1984 - 1985 famine in Ethiopia
- Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia
- Amharic language (+images and expand grammar)
- Tigrinya language (+images split off grammar section and summarize)
- Oromo migrations (I've created a skeleton at User:Yom/Oromo migrations to be filled soon)
- Battle of Adowa (a lot of background & specific military data to be incorporated);
- Less important ones:
- Zagwe dynasty
- Sabaean invasion hypothesis (theory?)
- Zemene Mesafint – split from History of Ethiopia, copy-edit & expand
- Solomonic dynasty
- Environmental issues in Ethiopia
[edit] Tasks
- *More Urgent* - we need to develop a page Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Ethiopia-related articles) to address all the various conventions in Ethiopian names, father's names, titles, etc., in the manner of Wikipedia:Manual of Style (China-related articles), Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Indic-related articles), Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Ireland-related articles), Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Islam-related articles), Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles), and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Korea-related articles)
- You're right Feqade/Codex. Please make the appropriate subsection when you can (I'll try to get to it if not) so that we can begin discussion. — ዮም (Yom) | contribs • Talk • E 06:43, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- I had a spare moment, so I created the page, borrowing from some of the suggestions above. Feel free to edit the stuffings out of it. -- llywrch 18:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adopt an article
Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
- User:Yom/Oromo migrations — ዮም (Yom) | contribs • Talk 19:48, 31 May 2006 (UTC) Already begun at a subset of my user page.
- D`mt — ዮም (Yom) | contribs • Talk 19:48, 31 May 2006 (UTC) Have some interesting information to add from Encyclopaedia Aethiopica and Annales d'Éthiopie.
GDRT — ዮም (Yom) | contribs • Talk 13:39, 5 June 2006 (UTC) Might as well. Perhaps it's possible to get up to GA despite the lack of info?Little more to do (maybe some copyediting, and alliances on map). Now GA status :).- Axum coinage — ዮም (Yom) | contribs • Talk 05:37, 9 June 2006 (UTC) another might as well. I think I can get it up to FA status, but copy-edits and image finding would be very appreciated.
- Battle of Adowa - llywrch 22:15, 11 June 2006 (UTC) Obviously a key article for Ethiopia, & perhaps the best known battle fought on Ethiopian soil.
- Amda Seyon I — ዮም (Yom) | contribs • Talk 20:41, 23 June 2006 (UTC) I have some info from the Encylopaedia Aethiopica, Bordelands, and Ethiopian Royal Chronicles to add. If I can find some images, it's another one of those articles with enough info to get to FA.
- Transport in Ethiopia have some experience and will look up information. gidonb 18:05, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
