Malplaced disambiguation pages.

An example: when Foogle redirects to Foogle (disambiguation). This situation is avoidable, as the disambiguation page can exist at Foogle.

The acceptance that malplaced dab pages should be corrected is outlined at Wikipedia:Disambiguation.

If Foogle has only one edit in its history then any user can move Foogle (disambiguation) there. However in most cases, only administrators can fix malplaced dab pages, since the eventual target (eg Foogle) needs to be temporarily deleted (ie, if it has more than one edit in its history). Never carry out a cut & paste move, if there is a malplaced dab page you can't move; simply list it below and an administrator will attend to it.

[edit] Manual list

Here you can list any malplaced disambiguation pages you would like corrected. Please make sure the page isn't already listed in the dump report below. Before listing, please see if you can correct the problem yourself using the methods listed in the instructions below. Completed entries will be removed from the list.

  1. add a line "# Base name redirects to Base name (disambiguation)" below this line
  2. Template:Sibling redirects to Template:Sibling (disambiguation)—not a disambig page, but a template; probably should not be moved

[edit] Database dump report

As of the 2008-05-24 database dump, these pages redirect to their own title with " (disambiguation)" appended. Do not manually add pages to this list - use the Manual list above instead. Completed entries will be removed from the list, there is no need to strike them.

[edit] Instructions

  1. Check the entries at Foogle (disambiguation). Do not proceed if Foogle should redirect to a primary topic instead; rather, repair the redirect as necessary.
  2. Check for cut and paste moves, which can be repaired through the process described at Wikipedia:How to fix cut and paste moves. Do not proceed until the repair has been completed.
  3. Check the history of Foogle.
    1. If there is more than one edit in the history, then only an admin can perform the move.
      1. If the history includes previous non-redirect versions containing text that has been merged into other articles and remains on Wikipedia, you may need to request help moving the page to avoid losing this edit history.
      2. If not, tag the redirect Foogle with db-movedab. Consider the edit summary db-movedab for Malplaced disambiguation page.
    2. If there is only one edit in the history, move Foogle (disambiguation) to Foogle. Consider the edit summary "(disambiguation)" is superfluous; see Malplaced disambiguation pages.
  4. Consider adding R to disambiguation page to the new Foogle (disambiguation) redirect. While helpful in identifying the type of redirect, it has the possible drawback of making a revert of the move harder, since it would then require an admin.
  5. Check that all appropriate talk pages exist (incorrect redirection is often a problem with the talk pages of disambiguation pages).
    • If there is an incorrect redirect at Talk:Foogle and no new Talk page from Talk:Foogle (disambiguation), consider replacing the redirect with WikiProject Disambiguation.
  6. Check for double redirects leading to Foogle.
  7. When you have corrected a malplaced dab, remove it from the list.
