The WikiProject Country Music Collaboration is an effort to identify articles related to country music that need extensive improvement. Some of these articles might need to be expanded beyond the length of a stub, and others might need to be improved to featured status. In any case, members of WikiProject Country Music and other interested Wikipedia editors will join together to work on each selected article and improve it as much as possible.
Anyone may nominate an article; see the brief instructions below. All registered users are eligible to express support. Remember to log in before signing, so we'll know who you are.

[edit] How to nominate an article
To nominate an article, copy the following text to the bottom of the list of candidates, filling in the name of the article and the nomination text (which should indicate why the article would benefit from a collaboration and what needs to be improved).
===[[Name of article]]=== Nomination text. ~~~~ '''Support''' # ~~~~
Please remember to place the {{country-collaboration-candidate}} template at the top of the article's talk page.
[edit] Candidates
[edit] Jimmie Rodgers
Since nobody seems to be making any suggestions about a collaboration, I'll stick my neck out and suggest we do something with Jimmie Rodgers. Personally, I think this could make a great featured article candidate if it could get fixed up. He's widely acknowledged as the "first country music superstar"...seems like a good place to start. I grew up listening to my Grandpa strum his guitar and sing "Waitin' for a Train" over and over. Rodgers influenced all the early greats. What does everybody think?--WilliamThweatt 01:30, 2 June 2006 (UTC) (nomination transferred from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Country Music))

- Alcuin 15:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC) Jimmie Rodgers was way too influential to have such a short page on WP. Also, see my notes on the Jimmie Rodgers talk page about reorganizing the disambiguation.
- Maninblack7737 18:51, 1 October 2006 (UTC) I agree Jimmie Rodgers' page should be made much better
[edit] Carter Family
Another suggestion that seems obvious to me is the Carter Family article. As the first country "super star group", A.P. and Mother Maybelle have influenced every generation of Country singers and songwriters. Who doesn't know how to pluck out "Wildwood Flower"? I think this would make another good candidate for Featured Article if it was fixed up and wikified.--WilliamThweatt 01:43, 2 June 2006 (UTC) (nomination transferred from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Country Music)

[edit] Shania Twain
I nominate Shania Twain, because she has revolutionized the country world. Without her, other successful country artists wouldn't have the heart to "cross over", but still be country, and still be accepted by the country community. Her rags to riches story is a inspiring one, and if fixed up, could be a great featured article. She has also made it possibele for other country women to show off their midriff! Also, she is the only female singer of all genres to sell over 39 million copies of one album, which is a HUGE accomplishment, and she should be recognized for that. The section of Shania Twain that should be fixed up most would have to be "Future" and "Morals and Principles", and of course references and notes. Ladybug413 13:45, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Ladybug413

Neutral
- Alcuin 15:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC) Twain already has a well developed series of pages devoted to her. I think attention should be focused on more historically important artists that have been neglected by WP.
Against
- Maninblack773718:53, 1 October 2006 (UTC) I disagree because information such a new artist is more easily found while providing more information on older more historically important artists would help more people learn about these people because WP is so easy to navigate

[edit] Dottie West
I nominate Dottie West, becuase she helped female Country singers assert themselves in Country music in the 60s, a time when male dominance was the main reign over Country music. She also proved to the public that female Country singers could have sex appeal, when her career went for a second go-around in the early-80s. If it wasn't for her new image, I don't think the Country singer nominated above (Shania Twain) would have had the strength to come to fame. She is also very undercredited and very underrated. Her story and rise to fame is one of the most remarkable in Country music history. The section of the Dottie West article that requires the most work is the references/notes section. (Dottiewest1fan)

[edit] Connie Smith
I nominate Connie Smith because she is one of the most influential women in Country music. She is often underated and not credited.
