Hi, my name is Graham Martin and I have proposed a Peace and Conflict Resolution Project, however, I've now spotted this one, and I'm a little confused. I just wish to clarify whether this project is intended to cover issues around Conflict Resolution in the context of Peace Studies, or just the quasi-legal usage of different conflict resolution methods? I don't know if that made sense as my own understanding comes purely from a Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies angle. --Graham Martin 04:23, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Amazing Race

Comments

Another very narrow scope project, this could probably just as easily be done via the talk page of the main article. Also, remember our policy on TV and game guides, WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, which seems to discourage what you are suggesting. -- Ned Scott 18:04, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Association of Wikipedians with Mental Health Conditions

Description: To better meet the needs of users with recognised mental health conditions, I propose that we create a specific WikiProject where specific problems encountered while editing wikipedia could be addressed. This project could form a place for people to discuss issues relating to wikipedia, help others understand the problems faced by such users in editing wikipedia and in participating in the wiki-community.

  • Frankly, I don't want to tell the world of my mental health conditions, why should you have a Project for it? It's like the Association of Teenage Wikipedians: it deliberately forms barriers simply sets people apart by virtue of their existence. Dev920 (Tory?) 16:26, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps the scope of the project could be widened to include Wikipedians that do not have mental conditions helping those that did have mental conditions?--Dylan Lake 07:11, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Not sure I see the point of a WikiProject with such a narrow scope. Only a handful of articles would be effected. It seems all of the collaborative efforts could easily be done on the main article's talk page. -- Ned Scott 17:59, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Children and Youth issues

Description Would focus on the much needed overhaul of many pages relating to issues affecting children and youth. Currently, some specific topics such as Emancipation of minors and Convention on the Rights of the Child are well written by experts. Other such as Drinking age, Voting age and Age of majority are nothing but lists and need some attention given to the debates and issues surrounding them. Currently Children's rights redirects to Children's rights movement, I would suggest the title simply be 'Children's Rights' and a complete overhaul of the issue - same with Youth rights.

There are a range of articles which could be also included, Youth representation, Juvenile Delinquency (Which is currently the target of a redirect from Youth crime) Youth voice, Youth-led media etc. etc.

The focus would primarily be political & social issues.

Fighting genre Video games

Description: -Project will focus on the issue of analyzing and the construction regarding the formatting of articles pertaining to the fighting genre of Video games. Discussion would enthrall the use of what images go in articles, templates, structuring, sources, gamepaly analysis and conforming the articles to a higher standard of quality. Some examples cited that could benefit would be the King of Fighters series character articles, the Tekken character articles, and many more. It has come to my attention the video-gaming community is lacking in regard to giving these articles sufficent attention. Hopefully, this project will be a feasible solution.

As the event is no longer so current, it's time to clean up the pages that were created quickly in immediate response. There's need for copyediting, sourcing, merging, and keeping an eye out for new information. I'm sure these things are already being done by many, but having a WikiProject couldn't hurt. Place names

Description
The idea of the project is to have a page where one might find the answer to questions like:
  • "How many places in the world are named XXXXX?" or
  • "What other places are called XXXXX?"

This is a little more complex than a simple category in which an article about a certain place would be given the tag, because when a person visited that Category list the intention would be to not only see a list of all the articles which are linked in Wikipedia, but also a brief note to aid the user in choosing the one which might be most useful or appropriate to their needs.

For example if one was interested in "Victoria" the name Victoria would be found in the list and it would carry brief information such as that found in Victoria#Place names for any and all places that have "Victoria" as part of their name.

Why not simply incorporate this information into new and existing articles so that it appears as it does in the article called Victoria? Although it would be great, there are reasons to have a separate alphabetical list of places:

  1. Because a searcher might not find an article which is simply based on the name he is seeking, or the main article which dealt with the term might not be about a place. (eg Hope)
  2. Because the creator of a new article using a term which is a place name might not even be aware that it is a place name.

The project I imagine would show each name which had more than one location attached to it as an expandible link eg:

+Place name, which, when it was clicked would display all the names in the list together with their brief descriptions.

In addition, Place names could be included into sub groups, such as "Place names in Africa", or even Place names by other divisions, such as continent, country, etc.

Programming Language Design, Implementation and Theory

Description: Organizes and edits articles on the theory of programming languages, as well as technical issues related to their design and construction. Examples of likely topics would include:

  • Formal models and calculii (the Lambda Calculus, the process calculii, etc).
  • Compiler construction (parsing, lexing, semantic analysis, code generation, etc).
  • Type theory and type systems
  • Possibly, discussion of research programming languages
  • Related areas in mathematics, i.e. computability theory
  • Runtime design and implementation--topics such as garbage collection, virtual machines (in the context of programming languages), linkers and program loaders, etc.
  • Programming paradigms.
  • Other topics which are covered by the charter but which I haven't thought about.

There currently exists a Wikipedia:WikiProject Programming languages which is flagged as inactive, this existing project seems to focus on the following practical subjects:

  • Cataloguing articles about programming languages themselves, and about popular implementations thereof
  • Detailed topics on specific programming languages

In addition, many of the topics listed in the charter already have excellent articles on Wikipedia; this project wouldn't attempt any "hostile takeovers" on such (other than providing navboxes and the like).

US Exec Branch

Description: Well.. I noticed alot of the US Exec Department sites do not have any formataility and they are very unorginized because of the many "sub" departments each part has. This main "project" would serve many sub projects. including the already started Wikipedia:WikiProject FBI project.

Temporary project page: Would be based off the Wikipedia:WikiProject FBI design.

Veterinary Biology

Description: A project which has the aims of making articles on the Wikipedia relating to Veterinary medicines, treatment, conditions and general animal health, better and easier to locate. Because this articles falling under this project use a lot of technical language relating to the veterinary profession, we would be most happy to welcome practising and retired veterinarians (large or small animal practice), veterinary students, veterinary nurses and anyone else involved with the treatment or care of animals. A good command of the English language is required for this one, users en-3 and above. The goal of the project is to provide a fast way of getting accurate and complete information and references for all veterinary articles on Wikipedia.

  • Sure. I recently have created Template:Infobox zoo and added them to all of the AZA members, so there's a start already. Cburnett 14:32, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
